General Public:

Do you ever sit in your chair at work, with piles of things to do sitting before
you, and all you want to do is get up and move? How about the feeling of
being stuck in bumper-to-bumper traffic and you cant get where you need to
go? We have a word for this feeling that everyone has heard before: Stress.
Chronic stress plays a role in most of the Chronic inflammatory disorders
Hypertension, IBS, Painful menses, etc. Liver Qi stagnation is TCMs way of
talking about the presence of stuck stress in the body. Qi is life-energy that is
basis for all the psycho-physiological functions in the person. There are
different types of Qi/life-energy present in the organism. The function of Liver
Qi is to start the movement and get things going so that life can unfold in the
organism. Metaphorically, it is similar to role of Suns energy on life on earth in
spring time. The stagnation of Liver Qi can result into heat, just like in global
warming, and is experienced as a feeling of heat, red face, thirst and
propensity to outbursts of anger and chronic liver qi stagnation leading to heat
is one of the reasons for various types of inflammatory disorders.

For Patient with sedentary lifestyle suffering from Essential Hypertension

due to Liver Qi Stagnation leading to heat pattern: In TCM Qi is life-energy
that is basis for all the psycho-physiological functions in the person. There
are different types of Qi/life-energy present in the organism. The function
of Liver Qi is to start the movement and get things going so that life can
unfold in the organism. The smooth flow of Liver Qi can get stuck due to
sedentary lifestyle, alcohol abuse, stress, greasy food and chronic stress.
The stagnation of Liver Qi leads to internal heat, just like in global warming,
and this chronic internal heat also called Liver Fire, plays a role in Essential
Hypertension. In the beginning Liver Fire is experienced as a feeling of
heat, red face, headache, dizziness, thirst and propensity to outbursts of
anger. The Liver is said to store the blood, and heat in liver leads to heat in
the blood resulting in inflammation disorders. The study (1) shows that
patients of liver-fire have increased levels of prostaglandin F2 alpha (PGF2
alpha) and arginine vasopressin (AVP) that are considered indicators of
inflammation and hypertension. 1. ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/12577335

Global Warming is term

used for the phenomenon
where Suns radiation is
trapped inside the earths
atmosphere by greenhouse
gases (primarily CO2, CH4)
resulting in the increase in
oceanic and atmospheric
temperature.
The increased
atmospheric and oceanic
temperature leads to global
warming seen as in melting
of arctic icecaps, shift in
marine life, severe changes
in weather patterns.

For MD: Essential Hypertension due to Liver Qi Stagnation leading to heat:

In the western model, a fundamental task of the liver is to metabolize
continuously the nutrients that are consumed intermittently. This provides
organism with a continuous current of material that can be transformed into
energy. Energy generated is destined for muscle movements.
In TCM Qi is life-energy that is basis for all the psycho-physiological functions
in the body. There are different types of Qi/life-energy present in the
organism. The function of Liver Qi is to start the movement and get things
going so that life can unfold in the organism. Liver Qi is not only destined for
muscle movements but also for the acuity and speed of intellectual and
emotional functioning.
Etiology and Pathogenesis
The smooth movement of Liver Qi can get blocked due to sedentary lifestyle,
alcohol abuse, stress, greasy food and chronic stress. The stagnation of Liver
Qi leads to internal heat, and the chronic internal heat also called Liver Fire,
plays a role in Essential Hypertension. Liver Fire is experienced as one or more
symptoms: feeling of heat, red face, headache, dizziness, thirst and propensity
to outbursts of anger and hypertension. The study (1) shows that patients of
liver-fire have increased levels of prostaglandin F2 alpha (PGF2 alpha) and
arginine vasopressin (AVP) that are considered indicators of inflammation and
hypertension. 1. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/12577335
