Joining Pipes

This type of joint is made from glass fibre reinforcements impregnated with polyester resin. It
requires special designs, clean, controlled conditions and skilled, trained personnel.

Surface preparation for internal and external lay-ups.

Draw a pint of clean solvent from the drum and wipe the area to be bonded

Discard used solvent.
The lay-up

Wipe bond area with clean rags without solvent.

LAMINATE BUILT-UP

An interior lay-up
up of two plies of mat of 100 mm width. If local specifications
require a surface mat shall also be used.

Alternatively, if the gap between joined pieces is held to a maximum of 5mm

then a suitable flexible sealing material can be applied between the cut ends
and to form a smooth
oth 25 mm wide seal on the inside surface.

For pipe to pipe gaps of over 5 mm a filled resin putty must be used to fill the
gap before interior treatment

The first and the last ply of the lay

lay-up should always be mat.
Width of woven roving (WR) for each layer should always be 20 mm less than the mat.
The ends of the joints shall be tapered to pipe wall over a distance of 4 times joint
thickness.
Do not apply more than 8 layers at one time to ensure proper wet out of the glass fiber.
After each sequencce rough the surface with 24 grit emery paper.
Alternate layers of WRM and mat has to be used in order to get properr bonding.
