Muhannad T. Suleiman et al.

, carried out their work on soil structure interaction on

concrete piles subjected to lateral loading. They have used stereo Digital Image
Correlation (DIC) systems to measure the pile displacements at surface and along
the length of pile and calculated soil-pile interaction pressure along the length of
the pile to develop the soil-pile interaction pressure- displacement relationships (P-y
curves). They have developed P-y curves by using advanced sensors and compared
them with P-y curves available in the literature. From their work they have
concluded that the measured soil-pressure is approximately equal to the soilpressure value from the literature for short, stiff laterally loaded single pile installed
in the cohesionless soil. The below figure shows the comparison of measured P-y
curve and P-y curves from the literature.

the literature.

M. Hesham EI Naggar et al., worked on dynamic analysis for laterally loaded piles
and dynamic P-y curves. They developed two dimensional models for analyzing the
response of pile for dynamic loads and assumed plain strain condition to keep the
soil reactions within the Winklers model. Damping is considered with static unit
transfer curves to increase the soil resistance so as to produce the dynamic P-y
curves. Lateral Statnamic load test was done to analyze the pile response and the
results are compared with the measured value. The developed model is able to
analyze the response of piles when subjected to lateral transient loads by
considering the nonlinear behaviour soil and damping. Comparison of static P-y
curves and Dynamic P-y curve are shown below.
