1.0 Introduction
Meaning of Open Source Software
Open-source software (OSS) is computer software distributed with its source code
available for modification. The software usually includes a license for
programmers to change the software in any way they choose. They can fix bugs,
improve functions, or adapt the software to suit their own needs.
Meaning of Hardware
A computer's hardware consists of the physical components necessary to operate
and interact with a computer. Since a computer's primary language is binary,
devices are necessary to convert our input into that language. The binary code
coming out of the computer must also be translated into something usable for the
operator.
Meaning of Software
System software-Includes the operating system and all the utilities that enables
the computer to function. Application software-Includes programs that do real
work for users. For example, word processors, spreadsheets, and database
management systems fall under the category of applications software.
2.0 The Latest Open Source Operating System (OS)
2.1 Meaning of open source OS
Open Source Operating System is any operating system that is free to use and
which provides the original code where the source code is available (under a
copyright license) to the public, which enables them to use, modify / enhance the
operating system, and redistribute the modified (or unmodified) form of the
operating system. The advance user can modify the code of the operating system
to make it works better for them in starting the computer or a likely user interface.
Meaning of operating system
2

The operating system (OS) is the most important program that runs on a
computer. Operating systems perform basic tasks, such as recognizing input from
the keyboard, sending output to the display screen, keeping track of files and
directories on the disk, and controlling peripheral devices such as disk drives and
printers. Every general-purpose computer must have an operating system to run
other programs and applications.
2.2 Examples of open source OS

Apache Open Office
Release Date:28.10.2015
Model: Apache OpenOffice 4.1.2
Open Office continues to add compatibility and features to make it a competitive,
free alternative to Microsoft Office. It comes with many of the same features and
makes up for those it lacks with apps and extensions that can be downloaded
directly into the program. It offers file compatibility that is capable of opening,
editing and saving Microsoft Office files. As of 2014, its major drawbacks include
the lack of a mobile app, cloud storage and online sharing and editing.

3.0 The Latest Open Source Application Software

3.1 Meaning of open source application software
Open source application software is computer software that is available in source code
form for which the source code and certain other rights normally reserved for copyright
holders are provided under a software license that permits users to study, change, and
improve the software. Some open source application software is available within the
public domain. Open source application software is very often developed in a public and
collaborative manner. Open source application software is the most prominent example of
open source development and often compared to user-generated content or open content
movements. The term open source application software originated as part of a marketing
campaign for free application software.
Meaning of application software
Application software is a program or group of programs designed for end users. These
programs are divided into two classes: system software and application software. While
system software consists of low-level programs that interact with computers at a basic
level, application software resides above system software and includes database
programs, word processors, spreadsheets, etc. Application software may be grouped
along with system software or published alone.

GIMP 2.8.16
Date of release:22 Nov 2015
GIMP (Gnu Image Manipulation Program) is usually the default go-to alternative for
anyone looking for Photoshop-level capabilities in a freeware desktop program. It's not
quite as feature-rich as Adobe's powerhouse, but it comes with an impressive stack of
tools that can be bewildering for first timers. Fortunately, it doesn't take long to get to a
grip on GIMP, and you'll be glad you invested the time and effort.

5.0 Pervasive Computing

5.1 Meaning of pervasive computing
The idea that technology is moving beyond the personal computer to every day
devices with embedded technology and connectivity as computing devices
become progressively smaller and more powerful. Also called ubiquitous
computing, pervasive computing is the result of computer technology advancing
at exponential speeds - a trend toward all man-made and some natural products
having hardware and software .Pervasive computing goes beyond the realm of
personal computers .It is the idea that almost any device, from clothing to tools to
appliances to cars to homes to the human body to your coffee mug, can be
imbedded with chips to connect the device to an infinite network of other devices.
The goal of pervasive computing, which combines current network technologies
with wireless computing ,voice recognition ,Internet capability and artificial
intelligence, is to create an environment where the connectivity of devices is
embedded in such a way that the connectivity is unobtrusive and always available.
5.2 Examples of pervasive computing
Samsung Galaxy Gear
Samsung's Gear is among the first smartwatches we've seen from a major mobile
manufacturer and is intended to lead the way in the emerging field of wearable,
connected technology. Exciting stuff, sure, but I'm certainly not bowled over by it.
With hardly any third-party apps to speak of, its functions are limited to handling
calls and texts -- email and social services are not yet supported.

iPod NANOLET
8

The iPod nano was designed to be an MP3 player, but due to its small form factor
and watch-like appearance (coincidence?), accessory manufacturers have been
busy putting out a variety of watch straps that allows the user to slot the iPod nano
in place and wear it as a watch while doubling as an MP3 player at the same time.
Well, if youre looking for such a wristband, perhaps one more minimalistic in
design, you might want to consider Curve Creatives NANOLET

6.0 Conclusion
Open Source can be used by anyone and because it has no copyright claims, so users are
free to use, change, and improve the software, and to redistribute it in modified or
unmodified forms. Pervasive Computing is to make our lives easier because we can
interact with computers. Besides that, we can easily give the computer commands and the
computer will grant your wish.
