Personal Professional Goals

Goal setting is an important skill one must develop in order to achieve success in
both ones personal and professional life. It took a number of years worth of effort and
self-reflection in order to successfully begin and complete nursing school. The effort
required following it will be no different. Setting goals allows one to picture and develop
objectives that are attainable and it holds a person accountable to herself. In order to
effectively embark and subsequently build upon my nursing career, I have set a number
of goals for myself in the coming years.
Short-Term Goals

I will successfully complete a nurse residency program within the first year

following commencement.
I will actively participate in workplace events such as journal clubs or unit
committees within the first two years of employment.
Long-Term Goals

Within the next four years, I will take an increase in workplace responsibility such

as acting as a charge nurse.

Within the next five years, I will begin coursework in graduate-level nursing
education such as Nurse Midwife Certification or Nursing Education.
