The publication is about the history to how Japan town was created in Portland. Old Town
Chinatown was once called Japan town. During world war 2 Japanese immigrants found refuge
in this town, seeking jobs and opportunities to better their live in America. Mostly all immigrants
face struggles because of being in a different environment and culture. Amendments was also
established to overthrow the so called Japan town and make it to todays old town china town.
The article also describes to how Japan town was managed and created to have a family business
of their own. The article indicates the pros and cons to having a diverse community in the
Portland area. This short article creates a positive side to how diversity was brought here in
Portland and how people lived before. The article is a good addition to the introduction of the
tour since it is very informational and historical.

The publication is about the immigration of the Chinese community in Oregon. The article first
started in the immigration of the Chinese community in united states in search for a better world

for the next generation of Chinese residents. The article dates back in the early 1900s to 1950,
world war 2 was ongoing at that time. The immigrants are exposed to violence and chaos. The
article illustrated the negative experiences of the Chinese community during those times. A lot of
regulations and limitations occurred, such as, banning interracial marriage and limiting the places
to which Asian communities can travel. A controversy also sparked when 34 Chinese immigrant
workers was killed in a mining facility in Portland. This caused an uproar and negative feedback
on the community. Chinese people were racial segregated from the whites which makes it hard
for them to live a normal life. Franklin D Roosevelt helped cure: the situation that many Asian
and other races faced. He implemented laws and created meetings and other methods to help
people who struggled. During this time many Asian cultural aspects was exposed to people in
which the creation of the first Asian restaurant was established. The article clearly illustrates the
different lifestyle that immigrants faces. It is a great story that has meaning and historical
backgrounds that can further create a meaningful and in depth tour.

The article was about the history to how Asian food first came to the united states. The
celebration of the Asian festival called, lunar new year first came to united states 150 years ago.
Other Asian cuisine was discovered along the years spent celebrating these festivities. Most
foreign individual was amazed by this authentic and exotic cuisine. This opens an opportunity
for Asian communities to develop and a show their culture through their food. This article
showcases the different background to how certain creation of food determines different meaning

and purpose to every ingredient. This was a popular source which helps attract audience to the
tour. It is very insightful and striking.

This article illustrates the historical background of the Asian community to which Asian culture,
food, clothing, lifestyle, and establishments was introduced to Americans. It first started in
California and it traveled to todays Old Town China Town. The origin of the Asian food first
reached here in Portland which shows the diversity among other groups. It affected other
businesses since having a new trend can change the outcome and the environment.

made in Portland Oregon. It illustrates that different restaurants, caf, hotels, and architecture
that have a historical significance. The article also includes the LGBT community and what
establishment was created. The source is a good place for introduction since it is mainly
describing about the history and the different building that was established in Portland Oregon.

The article briefly describes the history of the restaurant and differeny establishments in Old
Town China Town. It illustrates the importance of having a diverse community. It includes the
specialties and different establishments that links to food. The article is a great addition to the
introduction sections of the tour since it gives historical and descriptive meaning of what was
happening during the early 1900s.
