Child Maltreatment
Child maltreatment can be harmful for a child that has to go through it. This mistreatment
of child can cause for them to be both emotionally and physically effect a child throughout their
life. I think that sometimes children are abused and nobody is aware of what is happening to
them, not knowing that abuse is going on in a childs life can cause for a child to feel helpless
and vulnerable. There are many children in America who are going through abuse, they are
scared to tell someone or they dont trust anyone enough to say anything.
There are many things that causes child abuse, the majority of the time the abuse has to
do with the parent and what they might be going through. Sometimes the parents feel anger,
frustration, and stress that they need someone or something to take it out on. There are times in
where they have nothing to relieve the anger but, their child. When a parent feels all this they are
sometimes looking for a way to take their anger and frustration out. Since their child cant not
fight back they use that to their advantage to not be hurt by their child.
Somethings like poverty, home instability, violence between family, or abuse of drugs
and alcohol can be some of the many causes for the abuse of children. These factors are common
today in where a person can have so much stress and instability ever where they start to abuse
their children. Things that children go through effects them throughout their whole life, because
of the abuse they are scared and dont value themselves. Children who are abused tend to have
low self esteem, they look at them selves as not useful to anyone or anything. Children having

low self esteem can lead for them to have depression in the future of their abuse or at the time of
their abuse. This abuse of children can lead for children not to trust adults, this is hard for both
children and adults. When children are abused they start to believe that all adults are the same
and that everyone is going to hurt them this causes for them to not trust not just adults but,
anyone.
Child abuse have a lot more consequences than just trust issues but, they also have
physical consequences. Some of the effects that it can cause is damage to the growth of childs
brain. The damage of the brain can cause for them to not have a fully developed brain, and for
disadvantages late on in their life. This can also cause for there to be growth delays in the body
and the mind. This effects for them to fall behind in school and in developing social skills. I
think that it is serious when anyone finds out about a parent or anyone abusing of a child. When
society knows that an individual abused of a child they are looked down upon because of what
they hurt the child.
I think that there are many ways that child abuse can be prevented, one way that we can
help is by informing parents and children about child abuse. I think that we can look for pay
more attention to symptoms of a child that can help us determine when a child is a victim of
child abuse. I can help by helping kids mentally to get them to trust people again, at my job I
have had to work with kids who are abused and sometimes they just need a friend. They need to
trust someone I order to open to them and for me do help. We cant do anything if kids are not
willing to talk to adults and talk about what is happening to them. When I see or have a suspicion
of child abuse in a home the I feel that it is my responsibility to report it to family and child
protective services and have them investigate further.
