can enjoy three water sports: snorkeling,
surfing, and sailing.
So you make 3 body paragraphs for each and every
one of the topics above snorkeling, surfing, and
sailing.

Indoor Games
The introduction:
In general, games played at home provide a wholesome activity
for the entire family. Many people find that the time spent playing
games at home contributes to feelings of closeness among family
members, thus giving them time to relax together and promote
familial ties. Three types of games played at home that have
remained popular over the years are card games, board
games, and outdoor or backyard games.
Body paragraph 1:
Card games have remained popular in many homes. Bridge,
canasta, rummy and whist are only a few of the hundreds of
games that can be played with an ordinary deck of cards. The
popular movie star Omar Sharif has given bridge popular

advertisement in his latest book and on nationally syndicated talk
shows. This positive endorsement of the game has brought
attention to the fever pitch. Canasta and rummy have always
been considered staples of the card-playing crowd, particularly in
the northern climates where people are indoors during the winter
months. These card games provide a healthy way to spend leisure
time together, and the popularity of these games has not
diminished over the years.
Body paragraph 2:
Board games have also been very popular with the typical
Canadian family. Monopoly, Clue, Chinese checkers, checkers,
chess, and newer games like Trivial Pursuit are but a few of the
board games currently on the market. Clue has been so
successful as a board game that it has been made into a video
game. Monopoly is the true Canadian standard board game. What
family does not have one somewhere in a drawer or closet? Its
premise lies at the heart of every Canadian to become
successful and earn enough money to be happy. It is the ultimate
success game. Trivial Pursuit, a newcomer to the board game
market, has become very popular with the young urban
professionals who play it at parties and weekend get-togethers.
There have even been spin-offs of the trivia game like Bible Trivia,
Movie Trivia, and the like. Yes, board games certainly have always
been popular in Canada, and it appears that this style of home
entertainment is still a family favorite.

Body paragraph 3:
Outdoor or backyard games round out the list of home games that
have remained popular over the years. Touch football and
baseball or softball are played in almost every vacant lot or large
backyard in the country. Most homes inhabited by children have a
basketball hoop somewhere on the premises. These games not

only appeal to family togetherness, but also appeal to those who
are concerned about physical well-being since these physical
activities promote the concept of fitness.

Conclusion:
These games promote healthy competition among friends and
family members, provide a healthy release of frustrations, and aid
in understanding sportsmanship. Many younger players learn to
win--and lose--graciously while older players are reminded that
how the game is played is the most important thing to consider.
Home entertainment has remained popular for many years, and it
appears that games that can be played at home will continue to
remain popular for a long time to come.

carnival rides
I have always been fascinated by carnival rides. It amazes me
that average, ordinary people eagerly trade in the serenity of the
ground for the chance to be tossed through the air like vegetables
in a food processor. It amazes me that at some time in history
someone thought that people would enjoy this, and that person
invented what must have been the first of these terrifying
machines. For me, it is precisely the thrill and excitement of
having survived the ride that keeps me coming back for more.

My first experience with a carnival ride was a Ferris wheel at a

local fair. Looking at that looming monstrosity spinning the life out
of its sardine-caged occupants, I was dumbstruck. It was huge,

smoky, noisy and not a little intimidating. Ever since that initial
impression became fossilized in my imagination many years ago,
these rides have reminded me of mythical beasts, amazing
dinosaurs carrying off their screaming passengers like sacrificial
virgins. Even the droning sound of their engines brings to mind
the great roar of a fire-breathing dragon with smoke spewing from
its exhaust-pipe nostrils.

The first ride on one of these fantastic beasts gave me an instant

rush of adrenaline. As the death-defying ride started, a lump in
my throat pulsed like a dislodged heart ready to walk the plank.
As the ride gained speed, the resistance to gravity built up
against my body until I was unable to move. An almost
imperceptible pause as the wheel reached the top of its climb
allowed my body to relax in a brief state of normalcy. Then there
was an assault of stomach-turning weightlessness as the machine
continued its rotation and I descended back toward the earth. A
cymbal-like crash vibrated through the air as the wheel reached
bottom, and much to my surprise I began to rise again.

Each new rotation gave me more confidence in the churning

machine. Every ascent left me elated that I had survived the
previous death-defying fall. When another nerve-wracking climb
failed to follow the last exhilarating descent and the ride was
over, I knew I was hooked. Physically and emotionally drained, I
followed my fellow passengers down the clanging metal steps to
reach the safety of my former footing. I had been spared, but only
to have the opportunity to ride again.

My fascination with these fantastic flights is deeply engrained in

my soul. A trip on the wonderful Ferris wheel never fails to thrill

me. Although I am becoming older and have less time, or less
inclination, to play, the child-like thrill I have on a Ferris wheel
continues with each and every ride.

My Earliest Memory
First memories of oneself can be easily confused with
fabricated memories made by looking at old pictures,
movies, and hearing stories related to ones personal history.
This is the case for me: I have seen so many home movies,
heard so many stories, and seen so many pictures about my
early childhood, I dont know for certain what is my first
memory in actuality. Since I cannot pinpoint my first memory

Written by Anes Amrani

exactly, I will unfold a series of memories which were the
earliest in my childhood.
I remember at night looking through the large glass windows
of our living room at the huge pine trees and douglas fir
trees, which brushed against our white fence. The trees
would sway sometimes violently in the wind, as it was
common in Seattle at night. I would watch the trees dance,
believing to see many frightening and strange shapes
forming in the dark, as if the trees were alive in a conscious
way. The trees would shift in types of monsters my
imagination dreamed up. I would tell my mother about the
shapes and forms, but as a common mother would do, she
tried to calm me down instead of play along with my eerie
fixation.
Another sharp early memory of mine is when I examined my
body. I was curious, as most children are, about the texture
and form of the body we are given at birth. From an early
age, I had four operations: two open heart surgeries, and two
hernia surgeries. I would feel my scars which climb up my
chest and travel near my groin as if they were landscapes,
burned into skin until age would fade them away. Besides
scars, I would relish over the smallest of particulars about
my eyes, which have hazel lines shooting out from the
pupils. I would examine my life state through my eyes: I
could see how I was on the whole through them. My hands
were also a point of curiosity for me: my left hand is
significantly smaller than my right because of surgeries.
Comparing them was and still is a bit of a fetish of mine.
I learned to ride a bicycle quite early, though I do not
remember the exact age. My father was a professional
cyclist at one point, and he wanted his son to be keen in the

sport as well. But I remember my first attempt to ride a
bicycle without training wheels ending disastrously and
comedically. Out on the main street next to our house, where
there were almost no cars driving around back then due to
less population, I started out okay on a small child bike. My
balance was fine from the start, but then I got overexcited
and lost my balance, eventually smashing into our mailbox.
Though my dad was concerned about my safety at first, after
he saw how nothing serious had happened to me, he
laughed without hesitation and was poking fun at me. I did
not feel discouragedin fact, I was laughing along after a
few seconds.
I have many more scattered memories which could count as
first memories, even though they are mixed in with my
impressions from watching home movies, seeing pictures,
and hearing stories about my childhood. We may not know
our first memory for certain, but once we try to dig it up, the
world we lived in as a child begins to pour through the lens
of visual thought, bringing back the atmosphere of this time
into the present moment, like an incense smoke which softly
curls around our present senses.

What is Humor?
There exist many sayings, proverbs, and scientific studies
claiming and proving that having a sense of humor is a
phenomenal aid in various life situations. However, what one
finds comic and funny may be dull and boring for another.
Some people value only so-called black humor, while others
may find comedic features literally in everything. In other
words, there seems to be no universal criteria to define what
exactly is humorous.
According to the Merriam-Webster online dictionary, humor is
a quality which appeals to ones sense of the ludicrous or
absurdly incongruous. In other words, this definition implies
that humor is a personal quality which causes us to feel
amused as we witness events or phenomena which fall into
the category of absurd. The ridiculousness of absurdity, by
the way, to some extent corresponds with Freuds views on
the sense of humor, but at the same time, does not seem to
give us a clear picture.
The online Free Dictionary defines humor as situations,
speeches, or writings which are thought to be humorous.
This definition reminds us about jokes and comedygenres
which are most often associated with the sense of humor.
However, a word or an event on their own cannot be funny,
as it is the context which provokes our amusement about
something. This assumes that the same joke spoken to
different people, who are either familiar or not familiar with
its context, will respectively be perceived by them as
ridiculous or dull and meaningless.

Dictionary.com offers a definition, according to which humor
is a comic, absurd, or incongruous quality which causes
amusement. If we restate this definition we can see that it
assumes that for a situation or phenomenon to be seen as
funny, it is enough for them to be absurd or incongruous. We
believe that it is the participant who evaluates each
particular situation, so we cannot ignore the role of an
individual. In fact, this definition is to some extent similar to
the one above in terms of appealing only to an object
without taking the participant into consideration.
Based on the aforementioned qualities, but seemingly
incomplete definitions, we would like to come up with
another one. Humor is the individuals ability to perceive
situations or phenomena as amusing due to their absurd,
incongruous, or ludicrous nature, and/or in relation to the
context in which they took place.

Child abuse
Child abuse is an immense problem that does require
immediate help provided to the child from the side of
specialists. Once a teacher gets an allegation of abuse from
a child, he must not require a written statement from the
child or must not make the child repeat the allegation in
front of other teachers or adult people. The teacher must not
wait until the end of the school day, but report immediately
by the means of telephone and support it with a written
report within the next 36 hours. The teacher takes individual
responsibility for the report, so it cannot be done
anonymously. Both the telephone and the written report are
subjects of certain legal procedures. The telephone report

Written by Anes Amrani

should include detailed information about the person making
the report and detailed information about the child,
suspected of being a victim of abuse: location, special needs,
injury, ect. Afterwards all the details must be repeated by
the contact person and approved by the reporting teacher.
By no means a teacher should contact the childs parents
and a teacher should not make an investigation.
The next step after the telephone report is the written
report. A fax report is an interchangeable form of a written
report, required by the Department of Children and Family
Services. The written reports are made through the forms:
SS 8572 or SS 8572(2), reporting the fact of child abuse and
by the form DOJ 900, which is a medical report. Copies
should be made and saved by the reporter for further
organizational process. Generally all the forms if needed are
provided by the child protective agency. All the information
in the forms must be full and as objective as possible. They
require detailed information about the life of the child, his
needs and other information. A personal opinion of the
reporter has no legal value. The information of both written
and telephone report is confidential. This confidentiality in
case of its violation may result in 6 month of jail, for the
person violating it. The teacher may feel free to contact the
child protective agency for any questions that may occur
throughout the process of reporting the abuse or neglect.
The identifying information provided by the reporting teacher
should be clear.
Conclusion: The teacher is completely responsible for any
information that he conceals, including the name of the
possible perpetrator from the contact person. The response
and the actions of the child protective agency following the
reports may have a wide range. The teacher has to be ready
in case the parent requests details about the reasons the

Written by Anes Amrani

child abuse report was made. Only a small amount of people
have access to the report details and they always are
designated reporters such as CARE Program SCAN Team
members. The main role of the teacher is to make the report
legally right, according to the local abuse-reporting plan. Any
illegal action, incorrect information that does not coincide
with the reality and is subjective attitude is a law violation
and the teacher takes responsibility for false evidence.

How Social Media Affects Family
Relationships
A family has at most times been a private territory. No
matter what happened outside of it, for example at work or
elsewhere, a family, in principle, is where many people can
share their problems, seek for solutions together, enjoy
understanding and privacy. However, as technologies have
become more and more advanced, this private, intimate
space has shrunk. Today, in the era of social media,
relationships in many families have changed, since social
media affects these relationships in a number of unexpected
and sometimes negative ways.
Looking from an optimistic perspective, children and parents
have gained a powerful tool of communication. Indeed, while
communicating in person might be difficult for both
teenagers and their parents during the so-called teenage
rioting period, social networks provide a valuable
opportunity for communication. However, there is another
side of the coin. About 30% of people are now using all kinds
of gadgets, including cell phones, tablets, and so on, to talk
to their loved ones through social media services, instead of
having a conversation with them in person. One person out
of five admitted they learned what their family members
were doing by checking their statuses online, not by asking
them personally even though they might be sitting in the
next room (Macleighob).
Moreover, a study on media influence done by the Kaiser
Family Foundation shows that young people from the age of
8 to 18 years old tend to spend about seven hours a day
using entertainment media, which makes a total of

Written by Anes Amrani

approximately 50 hours per week. It means that during this
time they are not exercising, hanging out, communicating
with their families, or getting involved in intimate
relationships. Such a lifestyle makes them gain extra weight,
get easily distracted, and develop difficulties in establishing
interpersonal relationships, including the relationships with
parents, siblings, and other family members. The study
suggests that such young people often tend to be mentally
absent when being with a group of friends or family
(Huffington Post).
Yet another problem originating from social media is the real
lack of privacy within families. When there is a conflict,
fight, regular problem, or even some happy event, one (and
sometimes both) of the spouses occasionally post about it
on Facebook, or share this information with the public in
some other way. This leads to a transparency of
relationships, and thus its vulnerability; also, one of the
spouses might be frustrated by the fact that intimate details
of their family life are being exposed to a large number of
unfamiliar people. This leads to additional conflicts, further
posting about these conflicts in social media, and thus
creates an endless circle of problems (IFR).
Social media possess many useful features, but in the case
of family relationships, these media services should be used
with caution. According to different studies, teenagers widely
using social media tend to communicate with their family
members in person much less often. They may face
difficulties connected to social adaptation and acceptance,
as well as excessive body weight and communication
problems. Also, social media may be used by family
members to share the intimate details of family life with
public; this can be frustrating for family members.
