ln the development phase of the double-deck


train bogies (DOSTO} of Stadler Rail AG,
Freudenberg Schwab Vibration Controls engineers were able to integrate their vibration
control technology expertise at an early stage
of the systems construction.
Due to the high operational performance and high
stress of the trains, the demands concerning the life
time of the rubber-metal-components significantly
increase.
Considering the limited installation space the
construction of the components proved moreover
highly challenging, further and new developments
were demanded.
ln the course of this, the engineers drew from the
established technologies of Freudenberg Schwab
Vibration Control.

FURTHER DEVELOPMENT OF
THE ESTABLISHED COMPONENTS

Customized according to the demands within the DOSTO bogie, Freudenberg Schwab
Vibration Control has calculated and developed air spring systems, complete link assemblies and various rubber-metal-components.
The prototypes were submitted to a durability ftest by testing machines on-site. The first
test drives conducted by the client showed that the desired features oFf the components
were met. Today those components are being integrated in series into the DOSTO bogie of
Stadler Rail.

1 Traction centre bush


The traction centre bush is the connecting link between
the bogie and the carriage body. lt transmits the driving
and braking forces. Furthermore, its rubber layer allows
the turning of the bogie.

2 Axle guide bearing


The axle guide bearing ensures the optimal adjustment of
the wheel sets for economical, comfortable, and secure
drivability. lt is responsible for the longitudinal and lateral
connection of the wheel set with the bogie.

3 Spring disc I Primary suspension
A rubber-metal spring disc with defined spring characteristics has been built in underneath the steel spring. lt distinctly reduces the bending stress of the steel spring caused
by the Iifting, longitudinal, and transverse movements of
the axle control Iever and absorbs the sound propagation
between the wheel set and bogie Frame.

4 Bump stop
The bump stop supports the steel spring during strong
deflection. lts spring features are also adapted for the
mass of the vehicle.

5 Emergency spring
In case of failure of the air supply or air spring leads, the
spring loses its proper function. The emergency spring
takes over its function. The air spring sinks on the sliding
plate of the emergency spring, which continues to ensure
the horizontal mobility.

6 Anti roll bar system


As anti roll bar system minimizes the rocking motion of
the coach body.
The torsion bar connecting rod transmits the forces to the
coach body. The maintenance-free, noiseless rubbermetal spherical bearings absorb the high radial forces
and large angles involved.

7 Air spring system/Secondary suspension


The air spring consists of an air bellow combined with
a cylindrical laminated rubber-metal spring. The system
supports the carriage body on the bogie as a secondary
suspension and is responsible for travel safety, comfort
and the smooth running of the bogie.

8 Roll buffer
It constrains the deflection of the bogie towards the
carriage body. The rolling of the buffer decreases its
wear out - the component obtains extended durability.

9 Longitudinal control bar


The longitudinal control bar enables the lash-free power
transmission between carriage body and bogie in
the driving direction. Various rubber-metal spherical
bearings are built into the tops of the control bars. They
compensate angle alterations and absorb the transmission of the mechanical vibration.
