TARPORLEY PARISH COUNCIL
NEWSLETTER Tel. 01829 733496
Grants deadline is looming fast!
Every year the Parish Council is approached by local organisations for financial support. To this
end the Council has drawn up a new system to enable it to dispense its limited funds in a fair and
measured way, with grants being awarded twice a year in June and December. Some details of the
process are outlined below. The deadline for June grant applications is 18th June.
The Parish Council is only able to consider a limited amount of small grant applications, except
in exceptional circumstances, as approved by the Council, and organisations are limited to one
application per financial year (April to March).
Notice of the time for application of grants will be posted in the local press and village notice board
with a stated cut off date.
Applications for all grants must satisfy the Tarporley Parish Council’s Standing Orders. Grant
applications should be made on the Tarporley Parish Council application form, or by letter, sent to
the Parish Clerk, providing all of the following information:
l The name of the applicant organisation, with a contact name, address and telephone number.
This person should be the person nominated within the organisation to apply for the grant and this
should be recorded in the minutes or records of the organisation.
l Amount of grant sought.
l Purpose for the amount sought.
l The anticipated benefit to people living and working in Tarporley, including details of the number
of persons involved.
l A statement of accounts or audited accounts for the previous year (if available) or an indication
of the annual income, outgoings and reserves.
l The charity number (for registered charities) or signed declaration that the organisation is non-
profit making (for all organisations).
l Details of any match funding associated with the proposal.
To apply, please provide the above information to the Parish Clerk by email parishclerk@tarporley.
org.uk or by post to Chartwood House, 20 Nantwich Road, Tarporley, CW6 9UW.

Pedestrian survey – will you help?

THE parish council is urging people to take part in a survey for pedestrians in the area.
Living Streets Wirral & Cheste is asking people what they would like to see happen when they are
pedestrians, whether they are on footways, pavements or going along the side of the road where
there is no pavement.
The‘West Cheshire Actions Survey’can be accessed via the website www.livingstreetswirralchester.org.uk.
The survey should take about 5-10 minutes to complete and closes on 30th June 2010. The results
of this survey will hopefully be published before October 2010 and once available Tarporley Parish
Council will publish them in Tarporley Talk.
You will no doubt share the Council’s view that the safety of children, parents with young children,
schoolchildren, the elderly, people with disabilities, people self propelling their wheelchairs or using
electric ones and mobility scooters, as well as fit and healthy walkers and runners is paramount, and
public feedback such as that requested in this short survey is invaluable.

Children from Tattenhall Park Primary School help plant one of the new oak trees
with headteacher Laura Noble and Council Ground Maintenance Officer Rob Jones.

Pupils dig deep to replace old oaks

Children from Tattenhall Park Primary School helped plant 11 oak trees as the school
prepares to celebrate its 40th anniversary.
Some of the oaks will replace trees which were cut down nearby because they contained
the ganoderma fungus which badly affects the internal structure of a tree, so much so
that it could be in danger of collapse.
Tattenhall Park School headteacher Laura Noble said: “One of the children said to me

100 years time.
“In addition, our school council, whose members range in age from six to 11, and our eco

VACCINATIONS SO VITAL
by Barnhouse Veterinary Surgery

Is your pet travelling abroad or visiting Boarding Kennels this summer? Then
make sure their vaccinations are up to date.
Boarding Kennels require their four legged visitors to be fully vaccinated against infectious
diseases. As well as their annual boosters being up to date, most kennels also require dogs to be
vaccinated against Kennel Cough. This is a highly contagious disease that affects their respiratory
tract and is easily passed from dog to dog by sneezing, coughing or nose to nose contact.
Remember, Kennel Cough is not just caught from kennels, but also from social gatherings such as
training classes and dog shows.
The good news is that most Kennel Cough vaccines now last 12 months. If your cat is visiting a
cattery, we advise they are fully up to date with their vaccinations as cat flu is one of the biggest
risks in a cattery, particularly for the young or weak.
If you are intending to take your pet abroad, you will need to be organised and start planning their
travel several months before you leave the country. All pets must be Microchipped and will require
a Passport.
Every country’s requirements for paperwork, vaccination, flea, tick, and worming treatments are
different and subject to regular change so we recommend that you contact DEFRA, as well as
your Veterinary Surgery, who will be able to give you up to date advice.

Are you Tattenhall’s most talented?
AN exciting event is coming to Tattenhall’s Barbour Institute in October - an important
fund raising initiative for Breast Cancer Charities.
The organisers, led by Tiz Corcoran, are asking for anyone in Tattenhall and
surrounding districts to perform any talent they have been hiding under a bushel on
2nd October. The idea is to have two competitions one for ages 7 – 17 and one for all
those 18 and over. These talented folk will be invited to perform in front of an audience
and a team of experienced judges. The winners from the two groups will then have the
opportunity to perform at a Grand Gala Concert held later in October where they will
share the stage with other established and worthy performers.
There will be a charge to enter your talent and a charge to be part of the audience.
Entry forms and entry guidelines will be available from Village Greens, Tattenhall and
via the Talent Hot Line 01829 781167 from the beginning of June. The entry forms will
need to be submitted by 1st September.
Tiz Corcoran is confident of a credible turn out of Talented Entertainers and wants
those who enter or watch just to have fun. The aim is to raise as
much money as possible for these worthy charities and at the
same time celebrate the talent in the area with a couple of
fun filled evenings. As well as support from Contestants
the Organisers are looking forward to having wholehearted

HEALTH AND BEAUTY with Angela Bartlett

Q. My lips are quite thin and I am noticing that as I am getting

older they are getting thinner. Is there anything I can do to
make them look fuller?
A. As we age we lose fatty tissue from the lips making them
look thinner. The most effective method of restoring their
fullness is with dermal filler injections. Small, temporary
injections of hylauronic acid which are administered to
the vermilion border of the lips (the juncture between the
lighter skin and the redder tissue of the lip) to give a natural
plumpness without giving the dreaded ‘trout pout’ as
demonstrated by Leslie Ash.

If injections are not for you, then try

micropigmentation lip blush. A soft line of colour is
tattooed around the lip area giving the impression
of a fuller, more defined lip line.
There are also some great make-up tips for you to
try. Use lighter shades of lipstick with high shine
to reflect light and give the illusion fullness. Also
try one of the many lip-plumping products on

FOOTBALL TALK...
TARPORLEY VICS FC

Moss on a roll as Vics

celebrate promotion
Four years after entering the Cheshire League Division Two, Tarporley Vics achieved the next
step in their development by securing second place, and with it promotion into Division 1 of
the Cheshire Building Society Cheshire Football League. After all of the twists and turns in this
season’s run in Tarporley Vics form stood up to the challenge and it is a testament to the attitude
and application of all the First Team squad that they achieved a return of 15 points from the final
seven games.
The last week’s matches will live long in the memory, as Tarporley Vics knew that two wins would
mean the chasing pack would be unable to catch their points tally. Poynton Town were the first
opposition and this game was played on a Thursday evening in Poynton. Despite the logistical
issues surrounding night games Tarporley returned victorious after a second half barrage of goals,
with Richie Moss claiming a hat trick and one more added by Al Rowntree
This victory set up a “winner takes all” last match encounter away at Denton Town, with only two
days to recover. The game started well with the Vics in control and they went ahead with a Richie
Moss headed goal. The stiff breeze didn’t enable either side to play football to their normal high
standards and Denton, striving for an equaliser, started to revert to a long ball game. Early in
the second half they made their pressure pay with a deserved equaliser. The goal served only to
reinvigorate Tarporley Vics, with Mike Parker and Al Moore coming to the fore. Tarporley Vics made
the telling move in the 84th minute with the in-form Moss again grabbing the vital goal, with a turn
and shot from the edge of the box. Four minutes later substitute Andy Clacher secured all three
points with a 30 yard lob over the Denton keeper’s head. The travelling Blue & Black supporters
went into raptures while Steve Lloyd and the rest of the coaching team enjoyed the realisation that
those years of hard work and commitment had finally delivered the intended prize
Whilst the celebration of Tarporley Vics achievements will be to the fore in the coming weeks,
Tarporley Vics management and players would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our
sponsors and followers for the support they have shown Tarporley Vics over the past season. We
would not have been able to deliver this result without your support.
Tarporley Vics reserves ended the year in sixth place in the Crewe and District Premier League
with eight wins from 20 league games. Whilst the Reserves have suffered from all the focus being
on the First Team this past season, It is the intention of Tarporley Vics to further develop the
second string with the goal of entering Division Three of the Cheshire League in the near future.
Sponsors are always required and anyone who would like to get involved to help share the cost of
staging football in our community will be made more than welcome.
The overall aim is for Tarporley Vics to play Football within the locality of Tarporley. Please let any
local councillor or any of Tarporley Vic’s management team know if you can help with this quest.
What better way to celebrate promotion into Division One with the news that a potential pitch has
been identified!
Let’s keep the Tarporley Vics success story moving forward. C’mon the Vics!

Peckforton & Beeston WI

Spring has brought with it a busy time for the WI. There was a coffee morning at the home of
Libby Warriner which raised £373 with some to go to Tarporley Hospital and some to a heating
appeal for WI House in Chester. Also in April some members attended a Forest Group meeting
when a hilarious talk was given by Sheila Dibnah, wife of the late Fred Dibnah. More recently
several of us went to see ‘The History Boys’ at Theatre Clywd, a very good production to be
thoroughly recommended. Our next planned trip is a holiday in the Lake District when we are
hoping for some good weather.
On May 5th we met to discuss this year’s resolution to be voted on at the NFWI AGM in Cardiff
in June. After some debate the topic on ‘The mandatory clear labelling of food with true country
of origin’ received a unaminous vote. Next details of future events were given which include the
Cheshire Federation’s 90th Birthday Party at Cholmondeley Castle, the Cheshire Show and our
own 50th Birthday Garden Party on June 2nd at the home of Helen Kerr. Our August 4th trip
to Haddon Hall was then finalised before John Ayres gave us a fascinating and informative talk
entitled ‘My life as a magistrate’. All of us learnt more about the way in which a magistrate’s court
works and members asked many interesting questions before the vote of thanks.
Our walking group, bowls section and book club continue to meet regularly and our next meeting
will be on July 7th when the speaker will be Nicky Dakin with a talk entitled ‘Life with the beehive’.
Why not come and join us at the Peckforton Village Rooms with meetings starting at 7.30 pm? For
more information please telephone Judith Sherren on 01829 730071.
