Thestudentswillfollowalongastheteacherreadsthestoryoutloud.Thiswillbe
thesecondread.Thelessonprior,thedaybefore,theywillhavealreadyheard
thebookreadtothemonce.

TheSMARTboardwillhaveplacesfor17andpicturesofwhatishappeningin
thebook.Togetherthestudentswillplacethephotosinorder,sequencingthe
events.VolunteerswillbetakentogetstudentsuptotheSMARTboardandusing
it.
Theeventsofthestorywillbeinpicturesforthestudentstomoveintothe
placesof17tosequence,usingthetouchscreen
IfIPADSareavailable,studentswillbeabletohavethesameappthatis
ontheSMARTboardinfrontofthemontheirIpadandcanparticipatein
thesequencingactivitywhiletheteacherisconductingitontheboard.
AftertheactivityiscompletedontheSMARTboard,studentswillgetdiscusswith
theirpartnersandretellthestoryusingthesequencingactivityontheboard.

Inordertoassessstudentsunderstanding,theywilldrawpicturestoretellthe
story,inorder.Theywilldothisforhomework.Thisismuchlikethesequencing
activity,buttheyaredoingitontheirownforhomeworkanddrawinginsteadof
verballyretellingthestoryorwriting.Thisallowstheteachertotrulyseeifthe

studentscomprehendedsequencingandunderstoodtheorderinwhichthey
wouldretellthestory.
Drawingitallowsforthemtofeellessstressedbecausetheywon'tbeaskedto
write.

Personalreflection(discusshowtheactivityyoudesignedcoversTPACK/SAMR
principles):

ThisactivitycoverstheTPACKprinciplesforseveralreasons.Thetechnological
aspectisthatstudentsareusingtheSMARTboardandpossiblyIpads.Students
willusethesetosequenceevents.Theywillbeinteractivebygettingupand
movingtocomeuptotheboardandmovetheeventsintotheirplace.Thelesson
demonstratescontentknowledgebecausethestudentsareworkingtowards
retellingthestory,acommoncorecontentstandard.Thesequencinghelpsthem
toorganizeandthenmoreeasilyretellthestory.Lastly,thereisalotof
pedagogicalcontentontheteachersend.Itisimportanttorecognizethatpartof
thelessonrequiresstudentstoworkinpartnersandanotherportioniswhole
groupdiscussion.Additionally,studentsarereceivingdirectinstructionwhilethe
teacherisreadingthestorytothem.Thisprovidesmultiplemediumsforthe
studentstoreceivetheinstruction.Theyarealsoabletohearthestorywhile
visuallylookingatit.ThesamegoesfortheactivityontheSMARTboard.The
studentsheartheteachertalkwhilevolunteersareplacingtheeventsinorder.
Theycanvisuallyseetheeventsandheartheirteachersaythemoutloud,aswell
asthemselvesandtheirpeerswhentheypartneruptoretell.Thesedifferent
mediumsofteachingandincorporatingthetechnologyensuresthatmore
studentsareabletounderstandandgainfromthematerial.
Thetechnologysupplementsthecontentandsupportsthestudentslearningof
thematerial.Itdoesnottakeawayordistractbecausetheactivitywillbe
designedtogorightwiththelessonandenhancetheiroverallunderstandingand
organizationofevents.
