Subject

: Asking about Transient Time Step

Ref.

: Solver Software CFD-ACE+ V2008.2

Project

: Supercavitation Study around Different Projectile Shapes

Subject

: Ive made numerical simulation for transient incompressible flow

around an axisymmetric projectile using ESI-CFD-ACE+ V2008.2 and
in model option (MO) tab, I chose transient time step as Standard ,
No. of Steps as 5000 and Transient Time Step as 1E -005 , in
Solver Control (SC) tab, I chose Max. iterations (800), Convergence
Crit. (0.0001) and Min. Residual (1E-12). This numerical simulation is
done twice, one using structure mesh and the other using unstructure mesh. Taking into Consideration all solver parameters are
the same for both mesh types.

Observation : Both cavities are formed in structure grid case and in un-structure
grid case are not typical in time i.e. one is faster than the other by
time step interval 50 t .Cavity in un-structure grid is faster in
formation than structure grid by about 50 t .

Queries

:
1. Why did the cavity in unstructured grid case formed faster
than that one in structure grid case?
2. Why is the cavity in unstructured case more detailed than that
one in structure case?
3. Is Transient Time Step a real time in numerical simulation of
cavity formation around the projectile ?.If answer is yes, why
this time is different in both grid types in spite of same
projectile velocity and same solver parameters for both grid
types?
