WHO

WE ARE

THE COMMUNITY YOU'LL ENTER

In 1914, the Denver Bible Institute was
founded on two principlesgrace and
truth.
Throughout the years, Denver Bible
Institute held various names and
merged with other universities. In 1989,
Colorado Christian College merged
with Colorado Baptist University and
became Colorado Christian University.
There are over 6,000 students
(undergraduate and graduate) spread
throughout all 50 states and several
countries currently attending CCU.
CCU is still dedicated to those founding
principles, grace and truth, and is
carrying on the tradition of integrating
high-level academics with timeless faith.

GO BEYOND

START BY DOING WHAT'S

NECESSARY;

ORDINARY
BECOME WHO GOD CREATED YOU TO BE
Youre holding this book for a reason.
Maybe youre curious about what
Colorado Christian University has to
offer. Maybe youve thought about
going back to school to change careers.
Maybe youre hoping to create a life
of purposethe life youve always
imagined.
Maybe its something more.
GOING BEYOND
At CCU, we encourage you to go
beyond. Beyond your doubts and fears.
Beyond what you thought you could do.
Going beyond has helped thousands
of adult students get the education and
skills they need to create their life of
purpose.
TAILORED CLASSES
Along the way, CCU has implemented
programs to support your success. Our
cohort model means that you get to
know your fellow classmates during
your whole time hereeven if they are
cities, states, or countries, away. Our
professors have tailored their classes to
adult learners, so you can tap into the
experience that you already bring to the
table.

FLEXIBLE SCHEDULES
Our classes fit around your schedule
(learn more on page 15). You will
also have a student success team
encouraging you along the way. Our
student success teams are comprised
of various CCU faculty and staff who
want to see you succeed. They are
available to answer your questions and
support you in your CCU journey.
CHRISTIAN VALUES
Every class is taught with a Christian
worldview. This means youre
challenged academically as well as
encouraged to apply what you are
learning to real-life situations. Ask our
graduates, and they will tell you how
theyve learned beyond the classroom.

Our enrollment counselors will help

you choose a program that fits your
goalswhether its a certificate for
an extra edge, a chance to finish your
bachelors degree, or the masters
youve thought about for way too long.
Whether you enroll in a classroom
or online program, youll have a
cohortthe same group of students
in every class as you advance toward
your degree. It allows you a chance
to get to know your classmates better.
Youll meet classmates who get it,
because like you, they also have other
responsibilities in their life outside of
school.
Each class is structured to be a five or
seven week intensive (most are five).
You take one class at a time, where you
will focus on one topic of study. We
find this helpful because not only is this
more workable for adult students, it

also helps you see your progress toward

your degree. Every five weeks youre a
few credits closer to your goal.
In each class, youll be led by top
professors who teach with a Christian
worldview. In business, you will see
how ethics and care for others plays
into project management. In nursing,
you will learn how to care for patients
emotionally, physically, and spiritually.
In all degrees you will learn how to be
a servant leader in the classroom, the
workplace, and in every other facet of
your life.
Student after student has said that their
work life and home life are no longer
compartmentalized after attending
CCU. By learning how to find meaning
and leadership opportunities right
where you are, you will be able to
contribute your talents and gifts to a
world that needs you to be at your best.

FOCUS

SCOTT AND KRISTIN VALENTI

Scott Valenti was on the outside
looking in. He did well at his
job, but he never had the formal
qualifications to be seriously
considered for a promotion.
There were several times my
wife and kids would be packing
up to go on a vacation, yet I would
have to stay behind because I had
to work a low-paying, low-level,
unsatisfying job, Scott explains.
My kids have had a front row
seat to all that goes along with not
having a college education.
Even more, Scott felt that his life
had become compartmentalized.
He wanted to bring his faith to his
work, but didnt know how.
As a student at Colorado
Christian University, Scott
worked hard to create a new
plan. He learned how to balance
everything that was important
to him; his family, his faith, his
passions, and his work. He did
this while improving his academic

background and building skills

that could help him advance his
career.

THE DEGREE HELPED

I was shown that as a Christian,

I am required to take my faith to
work every day, regardless of the
working environment, he says.

With the faith barrier coming

down, Scott soon saw career
benefits, too. A degree in
organizational management
helped open doors, and Scott is
now the Assistant Director of
Support Services at WAY-FM.
The degree helped me get the
job, he says. Everything I
learned through the classes at
CCU helped me keep the job.
The most impactful thing I
learned was the idea of Servant
Leadership, he explains.
Serving the team members who
report to me may be the greatest
contribution I make.

CAREER DECISIONS.
Scotts wife, Kristin, also decided to continue her education.
She is working on her BA in Health Care Administration. I
felt very inspired watching him graduate, says Kristin. He
appeared to be part of something very special that I wanted
to be part of, too.
The same walls are coming down for Kristin as well.
CCU helps me keep God as the focus when making career
decisions. Every class so far has a biblical perspective that
helps students connect the subject they are learning about
with the Bible, she explains.
For both Kristin and Scott, Colorado Christian University
has been life changing. Attending CCU has impacted not
only what they could do, but also has transformed who they
are becoming.

MY EXPERIENCE

KIM CAMERON
2016 GRADUATE, MASTER OF ARTS IN CURRICULUM AND INSTRUCTION

Im sure there are a lot of you that

are like me: married, have kids, work
full time, etc. When I first looked into
CCU, I hesitated to commit because
where would I find the time to study?!
But when I let a deadline to apply pass
and a week later an enrollment
counselor called me to let me know they
extended the deadline, just in case
youre still interested I took that as a
direct sign from God this was the path
for me.
Philippians 4:5-7 reads:
The Lord is at hand; do not be anxious about
anything, but in everything by -- prayer and
supplication with thanksgiving -- let our requests
be made known to God. And the peace of God,
which surpasses all understanding, will guard
your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
Throughout all the courses, I prayed a
lot God, you steered me to this point,
continue to guide me, draw out meaning
in the course work, and help me focus
on one assignment at a time. He
mustve carried me through the entire
MACI program, because looking back, I
dont know where I found the time. But
HE made the time possible!
As I began the work for my Capstone
project, I wanted to create something
for my church. I spoke with my pastor
and he mentioned how he would like
our church website to have online
resources to supplement various church
programs. That led me to look critically
at the churchs website and I realized
there wasnt much to offer people
outside our church. Im not usually

THREE YEARS BEFORE SHE DECIDED TO GO BACK TO SCHOOL, KIM HELD A CORPORATE
TRAINING ROLE, AND LOVED IT! WHEN FACED WITH UNCERTAINTY ABOUT THE FUTURE OF
HER JOB, SHE PURSUED HER MA IN CURRICULUM INSTRUCTION.
the type to walk up to people and have
impromptu conversations about Jesus,
so having the chance to create online
opportunities to bring people closer to
Jesus was a perfect way for me to reach
out to nonbelievers. With the help of
many patient instructors and especially
Professor Craig Barnett, my final project
became a set of online, Christian
mini-courses using social media as the
catalyst to reach out to nonbelievers.
In CCUs MACI program, I learned
teaching isnt about me as a teacher
its about the students and how I
can better serve them. What can I
do that will help them? Jesus was the
ultimate servant He came to Earth
so he might serve us. CCU has guided
me to a deeper understanding of

what that means and how I can apply

His example into my daily life. Most
importantly, CCU helped me create an
opportunity to reach out to the online
community, at any time of day, and
teach others about Jesus love.
Kim is currently the compliance
manager at a pharmaceutical
distribution center. With her MA in
Curriculum Instruction, she is looking
at opportunities where she can use her
new skills. Kim is working with her
church to update their website and
provide online, interactive mini-courses
for the community. Kim continues to
find support, friendship, and community
with fellow CCU graduates, and is
excited to be able to spend more time
with her kids, now 6 and 9 years old.

Q & A:

SPOTLIGHT ON SERVICE
GOING BEYOND YOUR FEARS WITH JENNIFER BRYANT

Jennifer Bryant graduated in 2014 from

Colorado Christian Universitys online
RN to BSN nursing program. Jenn
currently works as the RN Manager
for North Colorado Medical Center
in Greeley, Colorado. After receiving
her BSN, Jenn decided to work toward
a specialization in behavioral health
nursing. She is currently in training to
become a certified addiction counselor.
Jenn juggled spending time with her
husband Michael and their kids Daniel
(11) and Charlotte (7) while attending
CCU full time and working nightsalso
full time. While in the nursing program
she went on a mission trip where
she confronted some of her personal
worries and fears.
WHY DID YOU CHOOSE THE ONLINE
PROGRAM?
I decided to go through CCUs program
because of its ease, organization and
simplicity. I specifically liked how the
program is designed to fit into your life,
and still allows for degree continuation
while you are working. I worked nights
full time while completing my BSN.

The CCU program taught me how

to prioritize and plan for success. It
is possible to work full time while
continuing your education. You just
need to be dedicated to the end goal.
WHAT ARE THE ONLINE COURSES LIKE?
Online coursework is actually more
straightforward than attending classes
in-person. Assignments are posted at the
beginning of the week, and students go
through the materials on their own time
and at their own pace. After reviewing
the coursework, students participate in
an online discussion forum. Students
submit papers and projects based on
topics in their course.
HOW DOES THE LAB PORTION WORK FOR
THE ONLINE NURSING PROGRAM?
Clinical hours are student driven. CCU
has formed partnerships with clinical
locations appropriate for communitybased learning. Each student is
responsible for completing clinicals at
the location of their choice. Half of
my clinical requirements were met at
the Larimer County Detention Center,

and the remainder of my clinicals were

completed on a mission trip to Costa
Rica.
HOW DID YOU STAY ON TOP OF
EVERYTHING?
I used the online platform to my
advantage. I made it a point to check-in
regularly with my classes. By organizing
my assignments, I was able to complete
them between shifts. Even though I was
working full time, the class workload was
very reasonable.
DIDNT YOU FEEL ISOLATED FROM YOUR
CLASSMATES?
When a student joins the BSN program,
they are placed in a cohort that they will
be with for the entire duration of their
time in the program. The idea is to form
a community of students who can work
together toward a common goal. The
forum is used to submit coursework, but
there is also an area where students can
request support, prayer, and connection.

DONT LET FEAR

OR WORRY STOP YOU
FROM THE
GREATEST EXPERIENCE
OF YOUR LIFE!
- 22 -

HOW WAS YOUR FAITH IMPACTED BY THE

NURSING PROGRAM?
The CCU nursing program focuses on
evidence-based nursing curriculum, but
does so in a manner that also integrates
Christian moral leadership, ethics, and
spiritual care. Using coursework and
biblical principles, students engage in
discussions and reflect on how Christian
values fit into the realm of medicine.
The beauty of this kind of teaching is
that it allows each student to examine
their own faith and reach a deeper
understanding of why they believe what
they believe.
YOU MENTIONED GOING ON A MISSION TRIP
AS PART OF THE PROGRAM. CAN YOU TELL
US MORE ABOUT IT?
As part of the CCU BSN program,
I was fortunate enough to join my
cohort on a mission trip to Costa Rica.
I felt as though the mission trip was
the culmination of our educational
experience at CCU. I wanted to be part
of something greater than myself, and
to witness how God works outside of the
comfortable world I live in.
We had the privilege of serving a
population of children who came from
families who were struggling in poverty.
These families wanted help to improve
their lives, especially for their children.
For five days, we worked to provide
medical care, resources, and education
to these children and families who had
a very basic understanding of medicine.
It was such an amazing experience,
being used by God in such a tangible
manner.
SOUNDS QUITE EYE-OPENING. WERE THERE
ANY FEARS YOU STRUGGLED WITH?
I was one of the youngest people to
go on the trip to Costa Rica, and I
was afraid that I might not fit into the
group, or that I would be considered
inexperienced. I had only been a nurse
for about a year and a half when we

went on the trip, and I struggled with

deciding whether I should go or not.
However, my cohort was kind, inviting,
and encouraging. Our instructors made
it a point to initiate discussions where
we could highlight and encourage one
another to use our God-given strengths.
That was refreshing and helped me see
my personal journey in a whole new
way.
WHAT WAS THE MOST REWARDING PART OF
THE EXPERIENCE?
The most rewarding part of the mission
trip was being able to directly see the
impact that we made on the lives of the
children. After spending time with them,
they started to trust us and confided
their fears and concerns with us.

on caring for people and for serving

the vulnerable. I found a greater
understanding of how God cares about
every persons life.
WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO A NEW
ADULT STUDENT?
Whatever you do, go! Dont let fear
or worry stop you from the greatest
experience of your life! You can do
this, it is worth it, and youll be a
different person when youre finished.
Youll be proud of yourself, youll be
better prepared to lead, and youll be
better because of it. Dont be afraid to
challenge your worldview.

I think the biggest impact on my faith

was the renewal of spirit I felt after
spending time with women and men
who shared the same goal I did. It
was encouraging to see how everyone
pursued caring for others with passion
and faith.
AND THE MOST CHALLENGING?
The most challenging part of the trip
was keeping our energy up. We had to
be ready to work long hours in very hot
temperatures. But it was worth it.
WHAT WAS THE MOST IMPORTANT THING
YOU TOOK HOME WITH YOU FROM THE
EXPERIENCE?
I learned that it isnt about being
perfect, it is about using the talents that
God gave us to enact change for other
people. God gives each of us the ability
to help others, and we need to get past
our own fears to use them to the fullest
extent.
If I had to sum up the experience in one
word, I would say it was revitalizing. My
passion for nursing was invigorated and
renewed. I gained a new perspective
