General -

GENERAL

Periodic inspection and maintenance eliminates the feasibility of unexpected errors and improves the reliability.
This manual contains the description of general maintenance work to be done on the UniStrip 2300, which
can be carried out by qualified and trained personnel on site. For a detailed description of the machine functions, always refer to Section I, Reference Manual (Register 3).

If problems occur which can not be solved by consulting this manual, qualified Schleuniger personnel will be
pleased to support you. In such situations it is essential to provide a precise description of the matter.
Exact type of machine?
Serial number of the machine?
Software version (incl. language packages)?
Exact description of the fault (error number in the software, if available)?
Under what circumstances has the error shown up?
Wire type to be produced at the time the error occurred?

MAINTENANCE SCHEDULE

5.1.

GENERAL
The development and construction of the machine is focused on a minimal maintenance effort. Maintenance
work is mainly straitened on cleaning and lubricating certain components and removing dust and debris. The
listed maintenance intervals however can vary depending on the type of material produced and the environmental conditions.

5.2.

INTERVAL
Maintenance work must be accomplished according to the instructions and the time intervals listed. Generally proceed according to the following chart:

GENERAL MAINTENANCE WORK

CAUTION

Dangerous line voltage!

Inadvertently start-up of the machine can lead to injury. Thus always turn off the main switch on the
UniStrip 2300 and disconnect it from the mains and the compressed air supply to avoid unintended start-up
of the machine.

Caution property damage!

For cleaning never use solvents! The finishing and plastic parts of the machine could be damaged.
Do not clean the machine with compressed air. There is a risk of stripping waste particles to penetrate into
the drives and the interior of the machine and cause damage to the drives and the electronics.

Clean the housing with a soft cloth and a commercially obtainable cleaning agent.

9.3.1. Cleaning the processing area
1.

Remove the waste container and empty it.

2.

Disassemble the safety cover, " Safety


cover" (Page 11).

3.

Remove wire and talc residue from the


processing area with a brush or possibly
with a vacuum cleaner. remove from the
processing area with a vacuum cleaner.

4.

Clean the clamping jaws wit a small brush


(contained in the accessories).

5.

Mount the safety cover and attach the


waste container.

CLEANING THE TRIGGER


If the sensible construction of the trigger is affected by dirt, the reliable operation is not guaranteed any more.
The dirt depends on the intensity of usage of the machine and the produced wires. If the trigger is not reacting properly any more it must be cleaned.
If the cleaning does not help, the trigger must be disassembled. See "11.4. Replacing the trigger sensor"
(Page 25).

9.4.1. Procedure
1.

Switch on the machine.

2.

Enter the password for the user level "Maintenance". Start the process:
> [Navigation bar]
> [Configuration]
> [Tab+]
> [Machine]
> [Trigger cleaning]
The dialog window is displayed.

3.

Confirm message with [Ok].


The machine is positioning the axes.

4.

Switch off the machine and remove the power


cord.

CAUTION

Risk of injury on the

There is a risk of injury during set up and calibration
work due to moving parts like clamping- and cutting
units. The CE-safety cone is attached to the
UniStrip 2300 and must only be removed for cleaning
and maintenance purposes and by strict observance of
the safety guidelines.

Unscrew the cap nut 1 by hand (if necessary
use a SW 7 flat spanner).

Pull out the trigger rod 2 .

Clean the cap nut and the trigger rod with a clean
cloth. In case of heavy pollution, use alcohol,
Azethon or similar.

9.

Clean the parts properly. Take care that the parts


are free of dust and fluff.

10. Insert the trigger rod into the pipe.


11. Screw on the cap nut.
Only tighten by hand, do not use any tools!
12. Touch the trigger button with your finger. The trigger must move smoothly.
13. Mount the safety cover.

9.4.2. Testing the trigger function


1.

Plug in the power cord and switch on the


machine.

2.

Enter the password for the user level "Maintenance". Start the process:
> [Navigation bar]
> [Diagnostics]
> [I/O interfaces].

3.

Select I/O group [Trigger].

4.

The voltage display in the "Huba" field must be in


the range 0.30 - 0.38 V.

5.

Touch the sensor button with a wire or a pen. The


voltage must increase immediately up to 3.50 V.
The trigger moving range must not be more than
0.2 mm.

6.

If the trigger does not function as described, it


must be calibrated, see " Calibration trigger sensor" (Page 27).

7.

Switch off the machine.

Adjustments on the UniStrip 2300 may only be performed by accordingly trained personnel (Schleuniger personnel, trained technical specialist on site).

10.1. OVERVIEW
The UniStrip 2300 is factory calibrated. To always achieve a constant precision during operation, in some
special cases the machine needs to be re-calibrated.

10.2. BLADE CALIBRATION


The home position defines the position of the blades when they are closed. A misaligned home position is recognized in that way, that the incision depth is not correct any more.
A blade calibration is necessary under the following circumstances:
if the blades are worn-out.
if the incision depth is not correct any more

The position of the blades may be corrected by recalibrating the home position.
1.

Switch on the machine.

2.

Enter the password for the user level "Maintenance".

3.

Start the calibration process:

> [Configuration]
> [Calibration]
> [Blade calibration]

By touching the arrows in the spin box, correct the


blade opening.
Arrow open = increase the blade opening
Arrow close =decrease the blade opening

Open the blades until they are at least 1 mm.

Close the blades until there is no light spot visible in the center of the blade edges.

Touch [Ok] , to confirm the set up correction value.


Touch [Cancel] to discard the calibrated value and to restore the old one.

10.3. BLADE CLEARANCE CORRECTION


The blades open slightly after the incision into the insulation
to avoid scratches on the conductor during stripping (wayback). With each wayback, the clearance of the blade holders is compensated according to the evaluated correction
value.

Switch on the machine.

2.

Enter the password for the user level "Maintenance".

3.

Start the calibration process:


> [Navigation bar]
> [Configuration]
> [Calibration]
> [Blade clearance]

4.

The dialog window is shown. The blades are closing.

5.

Illuminate the blade background.

6.

Touch the right arrow key "Close" repeatedly until the


blades move.

7.

Touch [Ok] to confirm the set-up calibration value.


[Cancel] is used to discard the calibration value and
to restore the old setting.

Caution short circuit, damage!

Carefully observe, that no screws and washers are left inside of the machine. They may lead to short circuit
in the electronics and cause malfunction.

NOTICE

Caution, property damage!

On replacing any defective components, the user must compulsory follow the separate description if not stated in this manual.
After each replacement of a component, make sure that all the adjustments concerning this part are performed.
Before disassembly a component we recommend to make a drawing or to take a picture of the part. This is
helpful, especially if the repair work takes longer.

11.1. CHECK / REPLACE BLADES


Worn-out and defective blades must be replaced, as they cause malfunction:

1.

Switch off the machine and remove the power cord.

2.

Disassemble the safety cover, (Page 11).

3.

Check the blades for worn-out or damages.

4.

Mount the safety cover.

Switch on the machine.

2.

Enter the password for the user level "Maintenance".

3.

Start the process:

The wizard shows up.

5.

Confirm the type "V-blades" with [Ok]. The


machine is positioning the axes.
Follow the instructions in the wizard.

Disassemble the safety cover, (Page 11).

Loosen the blade screws 1 for two or three turns
and remove the blades 2 .

8.

[Continue]
Insert the new blades and attach on the screws.

9.

Tighten the screws.

10. [Continue]
Mount the safety cover and attach the waste container.
11. Touch [Continue] to terminate the blade
change procedure.

12. Touch [OK] to terminate the blade change procedure.


With improper stripping quality, recalibrate the blades.

11.2. REPLACING THE CLAMPING JAWS


If the blades are worn-out or damaged, they must necessarily be replaced, otherwise malfunction may result.
Improper production quality of wires
The wires are clamped improperly
This procedure applies for the standard and small clamping jaws. Always replace both clamping jaws.

11.2.1. Procedure
1.

Switch on the machine.

2.

Enter the password for the user level "Maintenance". Start the process:
> [Navigation bar]
> [Configuration]
> [Tab+]
> [Machine]
> [Gripper change]
The dialog window is displayed.

3.

Confirm message with [Ok].


The machine is positioning the axes.

Loosen both clamp screws 1 and then remove


the clamping jaws 2 .

Loosen both clamp screws 3 and remove the


blades 4 .

Insert the gauge 5 between the blade holders.


Caution: The gauge must stand back for about 5
mm. It must not be clamped on the small bar 6 .

The gauge is clamped slightly.

10. Attach the new clamping jaws (standard or small)


to the shaft up to the sealing washer.
(The clamping jaw on the right has a notch 7 .)

11. Press both clamping jaws against the pin 8 .


12. Tighten the clamp screws 1 .

13. Hold the gauge, [Continue].


14. Remove the gauge.
15. [Continue]

16. Mount both blades 4 with the clamp screws.


Notice: The blades are mounted correctly if they
do not protrude sideward's on the blade holder 9 .

17. Mount the safety cover.

11.3. REPLACING THE BLADE HOLDER


Only replace the blade holders if they are defective or damaged. Always replace blade holders.

11.3.1. Procedure
1.

Switch on the machine.

2.

Enter the password for the user level "Maintenance". Start the process:
> [Navigation bar]
> [Configuration]
> [Tab+]
> [Machine]
> [Cutter head change]
The dialog window is displayed.

3.

Confirm the message with [Ok].


The machine is positioning the axes.

4.

Switch off the machine and remove the power


cord.

5.

Disassemble the safety cover. See step 1.-3,,


"9.1. Disassembly of UniStrip 2300 cover"
(Page 11).

6.

Loosen both clamp screws 1 and then remove


the clamping jaws 2 .

7.

Loosen both clamp screws 3 and remove the


blades 4 .

8.

Remove the splint 5 and the spacer discs 6


from the shafts.

9.

Loosen both clamp screws 7 and slide off the


blade holder 8 from the shaft.

10. Slide the new left blade holder 9 flushing on


front onto the shaft.

11. On the new right blade holder mount the gauge


10 . The gradation in the gauge must face
against the blade support area.

12. Slide the blade holder flushing on front onto the


shaft.
13. With the gauge align both blade holders to each
other.
14. Hold both blade holders and tighten the clamp
screws 7 .
Caution: Tighten the clamp screws with max.
1.5 Nm not to deform the guide tubes.

15. Loosen the clamp screw and remove the


gauge 10 .

16. First mount the left and then the right blade 4 .
Notice: The blades are mounted correctly if they
do not protrude sideward's on the blade holder 11 .

18. Slide on the spacer disc and the splint onto the
shafts.
19. Mount the safety cover.

20. Plug in the power cord and switch on the machine.
21. Calibrate the blades, see "10.2. Blade calibration" (Page 16).

After the blades have been calibrated, the clamping jaws have to be mounted and calibrated.

24. Disassemble the safety cover.


25. Continue on step 6., in chapter "11.2. Replacing
the clamping jaws" (Page 20).
26. Check for the correct adjustment of the clamping
jaws, see Clamping jaw calibration, see Calibrate
the blades, Reference Manual.
27. Check for the correct adjustment of the pull-off
axes, see pull-off axes calibration, Reference
Manual.
28. Switch off the machine.

11.4. REPLACING THE TRIGGER SENSOR


If the trigger does not function as described, this function must be checked in the diagnostics, see Diagnostics in the Reference Manual. If the trigger is defective, it must be replaced. The following procedure describes the replacement of the trigger sensor and the sensor support. The calibration can also be executed
separately.

1.

Switch on the machine.

2.

Enter the password for the user level "Maintenance". Start the process:
> [Navigation bar]
> [Configuration]
> [Tab+]
> [Machine]
> [Trigger sensor change]
The dialog window is displayed.

3.

Confirm the message with [Ok].


The machine is positioning the axes.

4.

Switch off the machine and remove the power


cord.

5.

Disassemble the safety- and the side covers. See


step 1.-5., "9.1. Disassembly of UniStrip 2300
cover" (Page 11).

6.

Loosen the clamp screw 1 and slide out the trigger support 2 carefully out of the machine to the
front.

11.4.1. Procedure

If only the trigger support 2 has to be replaced, continue on step 13.

Loosen both screws 3 and take out the trigger


sensor 4 .

8.

Remove the connector 5 .

9.

Unscrew the binder 6 (do not loosen the binder


from the wire).

10. Screw on the binder on the new trigger sensor.


11. Connect again (notch 7 to the top).

12. Mount the trigger sensor with both screws to the


locking device 8 .

13. Slide in the trigger support 2 from the front into


the trigger sensor 4 .

18. Plug in the power cord and switch on the
machine.
19. Enter the password for the user level "Maintenance". Start the process:
> [Navigation bar]
> [Diagnostics]
> [I/O interfaces].

20. Select I/O group [Trigger].


21. The voltage display in the "Huba" field must be in the
range 0.30 - 0.38 V.
22. Activate the sensor with a wire or a pen.
The voltage must increase immediately up to 3.50 V
The trigger moving range must not exceed 0.2 mm.
23. If the trigger is not working as excepted, switch off the
machine, remove the safety- and side covers and repeat
the calibration from step 14.
24. Switch off the machine.

11.5. REPLACING THE DISPLAY ASSEMBLY


The sensitive surface of the touch screen is susceptible against sharp objects. Long finger nails or tools are
not appropriate for operating and can cause signs of wear or even damage to the display. In such cases the
display has to be replaced.

Hazardous voltage is present in the area of the mains socket. Thus always turn off the main switch on the
UniStrip 2300 before doing any maintenance work and disconnect it from the mains to eliminate the risk of an
electric shock.

NOTICE

Caution, property damage!

On the PCB and the display there are components which react sensitive to electric discharge (ESD) and may
be damaged if they are handled improperly. This leads to malfunction of the machine. Therefore always wear
an ESD wrist strap while handling PCBs.
1.

Remove the housing, (Page 11).

2.

Place a soft pad onto the stripping unit.

3.

Swivel the display 1 out of the bracket to the


front.

4.

Unlock the flat cable connector J4 through the


opening. Unplug the flex-flat cable carefully.
Caution: The flex-flat cable 2 is short. Do not
extend it!

Remove the display from the machine.

Insert the flex-flat cable 2 of the new display


J4 into the connector and lock.

7.

Place the new display onto the holder.

8.

Mount the cover.


Caution: take care that the display is centered
correctly from the front.

9.

Connect the machine to the mains.


Turn on the main switch.

10. Check for the correct functioning of the display.


11. Perform the display calibration. See Section I Reference Manual (Register 3).

11.6. PCB REPLACEMENT


DANGER

Hazardous voltage is present in the area of the mains socket. Thus always turn off the main switch on the
UniStrip 2300 before doing any maintenance work and disconnect it from the mains to eliminate the risk of an
electric shock.

Caution, data loss!

A replacement PCB is delivered with a factory default set up. After a PCB replacement, normally all settings
and wire data have to be programmed again. To avoid this, backup all machine- and wire data onto an USB
memory stick before replacing.
See chapter Backup/restore, section I, Reference Manual (Register 3).
After mounting the new PCB, restore the data to the machine.

Loosen the screws 1 on both sides. Loosen the


screws 2 only, swivel the display holder 3 to
the front and fixate with the screw 2 .

Disconnect all other cables on the PCB.


Caution: Make sure that all connectors are
labeled correctly!

5.

Loosen the screws 4 (6 pieces).

6.

Lift off the PCB carefully.


Caution: Take care that the heat sink foil does
not stick on the PCB!

Position the new PCB on the heat sink foil exactly


and screw on with the screws 4 .

8.

Swivel back the display holder 3 and tighten it.

9.

Insert the flex-flat cable 5 of the new display


J4 into the connector and lock it.

10. Place the new display onto the holder.

11. Reconnect all cables on the PCB.

12. Mount the housing.


13. Plug in the USB memory stick (contained in the accessories) on the rear of the machine.
14. Connect the machine to the mains.
Turn on the main switch.
15. The machine starts with the "Boot loader".
16. With the key 6 select the desired machine type.
With wrong software version, please consult the
installation manual (delivered with spare PCB).

17. With the key 7 start the installation process.


18. After the installation procedure has been terminated, switch off the machine.
19. Remove the USB memory stick.
20. Switch on the machine.
21. Check if the initialization performs correctly.
Restore the machine and wire data from the USB
memory stick. For this see also chapter Service,
Section I, Reference Manual (Register 3).

11.7. EXCHANGE OF BATTERY


The UniStrip 2300 machine is equipped with a backup battery (live cycle approx. 3 years) to ensure that the
settings are retained when the machine was switched off.

We recommend to backup all machine- and wire data to an USB memory stick before a battery replacement.
If any data would get lost, it could be restored at any time.

Mount the housing.

Connect the machine to the mains.

Check if the settings, especially the time and the


date are still correct.
As required set them up again. See Section I Reference Manual (Register 3).

7.

Restore the machine- and wire data from the USB memory stick.

WARNING

Danger if operated by unqualified personnel!

The fuses may only be replaced by accordingly trained personnel (Schleuniger personnel, trained technical
specialist on site).

1.

Press the clips on the left and right and pull the fuse module 1 out of the power supply.

2.

Insert the new fuses 2 into the fuse holder.

With any fuse change always replace both mains fuses (same type and rating). 100-240 VAC = 22.0 A/T.
3.

Insert the fuse holder back into the power supply 3 of the UniStrip 2300 and plug in the power cord.

Material of gloves
The selection of the suitable gloves does not only depend on the material, but also on further marks
of quality and varies from manufacturer to manufacturer. As the product is a preparation of several
substances, the resistance of the glove material can not be calculated in advance and has therefore
to be checked prior to the application.
