WHAT'STESTED
Thepurposeofthistaskistoassessyourabilitytodescribeanimagerelatedtoanacademictheme
drawnfromthehumanities,naturalsciences,orsocialsciences.Onlyspeakingskillsareassessed.You
willseeanimage(agraph,picture,map,chart,ortable).Youwillhave25secondstostudytheimage.
Whenyouhearthetone,youshouldbegindescribingindetailwhatisshownintheimage.Youwillhave
40secondstogiveyourresponse.Therearesixorsevenimages.
TIPS
1. Identifythetypeofimage.Is it agraph,picture,map,chart,ortable?Theapproachforhandling
eachimagetypeisslightlydifferent.
2. Takenotesifyouneedto.UsetheErasableNoteboardBookletandpenprovided.Donotwritefull
sentencesbrieflylistanyimportantfeaturesyousee.
3. Forgraphs,charts,andtables,besureyouunderstandwhatisbeingmeasuredandinwhatunits it
isbeingreported.
4. Trytodeterminewhatthemainpointoftheimageis.Youshouldbeabletoanswerthequestion,

5. Mapsandpictureswilloftenhaveobviousfeatureshighlighted.Usewordsandphrasesthat
describethelocationsoffeatureswithintheimage,forexample,ontheleftjright,nextto,above,
below,andsoon. Ifobjectsareparticularcolors,thesemayhelpyouidentifythem,forexample,the
countriesmarkedinyellow.Thesameistrueforsizesandshapes,forexample,thelargesquare,the
smallercircle.
6. Graphs,charts,andtablesoftenshowtrendsorchanges.Usewordsandphrasesthatdescribethe
