Attendance & Make-Up Work:
In this course, students are expected to attend class on a daily
basis in order to fully-participate and grasp the language and
culture. Missed days result in lost opportunities for
participation points and lost material is difficult to reclaim.
Avoid unnecessary absences as much as you are able.
If you have a pre-planned absence, please give Ms.
Dykman notice and she will attempt to arrange work for
you ahead of time.
If you are absent unexpectedly and are able, please email Ms. Dykman before her planning hour (7:45-8:43 am)
and she will do her best to reply with your missed work.
Unexcused absences or ISS will result in lost credit for
all assignments for that date.
When you return from an absence, all activities (including
warmups) will be listed on the classroom website and any
necessary materials can be found in black bin.
Completed materials should be returned to the same bin,
in the folder for your hour.
Students have ONE day for each missed, not to exceed
FIVE total days to complete missed work & to make up
tests and quizzes.
Absences immediately prior to an announced test will
not excuse a student from taking the test. Test
postponement will be at teacher discretion. This includes
if there is a sub.
Assessments:
Each unit in French will be assessed in three ways.
1) Quizzes These may be based on grammar, vocabulary
or culture. Nearly every quiz will be unannounced.
2) Test/Mini-Test Depending on the unit, you will be
given a longer written assessment.
3) IPAs or projects IPAs will be explained as we
approach the end of unit 1. Attendance on IPA days is
VERY important.

Pink Slips:
If an assessment is given and you feel it was incorrectly or unfairly graded, complete a Pink Slip,
staple it to the front of the assessment and turn it back into me. I will review the request for a new
grade & will determine whether that is appropriate. Do not interrupt class time with a question about
a grade. I am more than happy to discuss grades with you via the pink slip system. Slips are found in
the bin on the counter.
Extra Credit:
Extra credit will often be offered on tests and
quizzes at Mademoiselle Dykmans discretion. NO
other outside extra credit will be given.
Grading:

B+ 86.5-89.49

Warm-Ups:
Warm-ups will be completed each day and turned
in bi-weekly. Grades for warm-ups will be
included in your participation grade. The
expectation is that any errors made on your
warm-ups will be corrected as we review them.
Participation:
Each day in class you will be given opportunities
to receive participation points. These
opportunities include, but may not be limited to:
using French during class time
raising your hand to an asked question
participating in partner speaking activity
being on task during individual work time
Participation points can be lost.
You will earn a participation grade every two three weeks.

Academic Integrity:
Cheating in French class includes, but is not limited to:

Copying anyones answers to class work or homework.

Taking information from any source without giving proper credit to the author, i.e. plagiarism.

Use of online translators.

Looking onto another students paper during a test or quiz or talking during a test or quiz.

Having available any study aids during a test or quiz without teacher permission. (This includes
writing on desk, self, etc.)

Collaborating on assignments when independent work is expected.

Filling in assignment with nonsense in effort to earn credit.

Cheating will be handled per the student handbook.

Electronic D evices:
Electronic devices can and will be used in class for academic purposes at teacher discretion. Unless
given explicit permission by Ms. Dykman to use these for a classroom activity, electronic devices (cell
phones, tablets, etc.) are NOT to be visible in class. Students found to be using phones outside of
appropriate time will surrender it to the office per the student handbook & will lose participation points.
Media:
Throughout the year, we may pause in our
study to do media research of
Francophone culture. If movies are shown in
class, they are shown for discussion
purposes, NOT homework/ chatting/sleepy
time. Be prepared to ask questions, add
your opinions and participate. I also
incorporate French music and other cultural
aspects of our study. If there is an area
you would like to specifically address, please
speak to me and we will see what I can do.

Closing:
My MAIN GOAL is for you to be
SUCCESSFUL in French. If the way
things are going are not helping you
to be successful, talk to me. If you
have a problem, question or concern,
please talk to me. J
