Dr. Clifford Sager announces the receipt of an NIMH grant for the Department of Psychiatry at Metropolitan Hospital in
New York. The project will serve to demonstrate in a large metropolitan hospital serving predominantly families of low
economic and social status the feasibility and effectiveness of a program of brief family therapy in which the original or
identified patient is an adult or a late adolescent. Therapy will be problem oriented and will continue for up to fifteen
sessions. Evaluative measures will be used, such as the FIRO-B, the Hill interaction matrix, the family interaction
apperception test and questionnaires.

Dane E. Miller, Ph.D., is spending the next twenty months at the Tavistock Clinic in London doing a study of the
structure of certain English social groups and their relationship to family interaction.

Dr. Normal Paul, who has been active in the Family Therapy field for some time, will be the next recipient of the Edward
A. Strecker prize, given by the Institute of the Pennsylvania Hospital. The first recipient was Don D. Jackson, M.D. and last
year's recipient was Israel Zwerling, M.D.

Virginia Satir will be on sabbatical leave from the Mental Research Institute for the academic year 1966-67. She will
make her residence at Big Sur, California.

The Post Doctoral Training Program in Marriage Counseling, administered by the Minnesota Family Study Center, is
now accepting applications for the academic year 1967-68. The deadline for applications is March 1, 1967 and forms and

The Association of Family Therapists in San Francisco will have its Third Annual Conference at Asilomar, California, on
October 14, 15, and 16. This Fall it will offer training courses in family therapy. The officers for 1966 are President, Martin
Steiner, M.D., President Elect, Alan Leveton, M.D., Past President, Ben Handleman, M.S.W., Secretary, Eva Hitchcock,
Ph.D., and Treasurer Betsy Hand, R. N. The association would like to stimulate discussion of a national meeting among

A Family Therapy Center is being established in San Francisco by Alan F. Leveton, M.D. and Ben Handleman, M.S.W.
It offers evaluation and treatment services for families and will have recording and observation facilities for systematic

The Eastern Pennsylvania Psychiatric Institute in Philadelphia announces their conference on Systematic Research on
Family Interaction has been postponed to March 17-18, 1967.

A Two-week Workshop on family treatment will be offered jointly by McGill University and the Jewish General
Hospital, Montreal, from January 23 to February 3, 1967. The fee is $150.00, the trainees are limited to 20, and
