Experiment 1
RMS Value of an A.C. Sinusoidal
Waveform
ANSWERS TO QUESTIONS
1. What does this trace or waveform shows?
- A horizontal line was displayed in x (time) y (voltage) plane. Defining
the constant supply of voltage from a 10 Vdc source.
2. Does the waveform cross beyond the zero voltage axis of the oscillioscope
or does it go beyond 0V reading of the voltmeter? What maybe the reason
for this
- The relationship of voltage to a change in resistor is directly proportional
to each other. As show in the formula V=iR.
3. As you vary the setting of the potentiometer what is the voltage reading
range, as seen on the oscillioscope or voltmeter?
- If varied, the voltage will range to 10V as highest and 0V as lowest.
4. What is the period of the waveform?
- The period of the waveform is 0.01658 sec since the frequency is 60.31
Hz.
5. What is the peak voltage?
- The peak voltage would be 5V.
6. What is the relationship of between the peak and peak-to-peak voltages?
- The peak-to-peak voltage is just the twice of the peak voltage.
7. What can you say about the power consumption of the lamp having the same
intensity for the DC and AC sources?
- With the same intensity the DC source lamp has equal power
consumption compared to AC source lamp
8. Based on the results of Table 1.1, what is the meaning of effective value (or
Root Mean Square RMS value) of the alternating current?
11.What is the ratio of the peak voltage and the reading of the voltmeter?
- Their ratio is 1/sqrt(2) = 0.71
12.Does the result agree with the relationship you established in the lamp
experiment?
- Yes, the results agree.
