LAW OF RESPECT

- People naturally follow leaders stronger than themselves

People don't follow others by accident. they follow individuals whose

leadership they respect. People who are an 8 in leadership (on a scale
from 1 to 10, with 10 being the strongest) doesn't go out and look for a
6 to follow- they naturally follow 9 or 10.

If you ever become frustrated because the people you want to follow
you are reluctant to, it very well be that you are trying to lead whose
leadership is stronger than yours.

6 WAYS TO GAIN RESPECT

1. Natural Leadership Ability
Some people are born with greater skills and ability to lead than others. All
leaders are not created equal.
People with natural leadership ability draw others to them. However, relying
strictly on talent can be a downfall for leaders. If you recognize your natural
abilities and hone them daily, your organization and followership will benefit.
2. Respect for Others
When leaders show respect for others-especially for people who have less
power or a lower position than theirsthey gain respect from others.
People desire respect from those around them. If a follower is to be led, they
will inherently choose to be led by someone who demonstrates mutual
respect.
3. Courage
A leaders courage has great value: it gives followers hope.
In moments of difficulty, courage can set a leader apart. Courageous people
will gain respect from followers because of their willingness to stand alone on
their values, despite the criticism they may receive.
4. Success
People respect others accomplishments. And its hard to argue with a good
track record.
When we see a good track record, we tend to believe it can be done again.

Often, this is a correct assumption. Followers respect leaders who have

proved themselves in the past and want to be a part of that particular
leaders future.
5. Loyalty
When leaders stick with the team until the job is done, remain loyal to the
organization when the going gets rough, and look out for followers even when
it hurts them, followers respect them and their actions.
Todays culture is one of constant change and transition. Its a me culture
instead of a we culture. When team members commit to following a leader,
they want to know that they are following someone who is in it for the long
haul and for the benefit of the whole team. Loyalty to the organization
creates followers loyalty to a leader.
6. Value Added to Others
You can be sure that followers value leaders who add value to them. And
their respect for them carries on long after the relationship has ended.
Leaders add value to an organization and to their followers by serving those
around them. When followers benefit from being associated with a leader,
theyll want to advance alongside him or her. There is no doubt that people
desire to win. What better way to win than with a leader you respect?
In evaluating these six ways to gain others respect, where do you see
yourself? You can evaluate how much respect you have as a leader by first
looking at who you attract and then seeing how people respond when you ask
for a commitment or change.

LAW OF INTUITION
- True leaders know how to read and react

Leaders know how to read and react to any situation

- In all kinds of circumstances, they capture details the elude others.
- Many describe this as an ability to "smell" things in their organization.
They can sense people's attitudes. They are able to detect the
chemistry of a team. They can tell when things are humming and when
they're winding down or getting ready to grind to a halt. They don't
need to sift through stats, read reports, or examine a balance sheet.
They know the situation before they have all the facts.
Leaders know how to read and react to trends

- Have the ability to step back from what's happening at the moment
and see not only where they and their people have gone, but also
where they are headed in the future.
- Everything that happens around us does so in the context of a bigger
picture. Leaders have the ability--and responsibility--to step back from
what's happening at the moment and to discern not only where the
organization has been but also where it is headed. Sometimes they can
accomplish this through analysis, but often the best leaders sense it
first and find data to explain it later. Their intuition tells them that
something is happening, that conditions are changing, and that trouble
or opportunity is coming.

Leaders know how to read and react to their resources

- Successful leaders see the every situation in terms of available
resources: money, raw materials, technology and most important,
people.

Leaders know how to read and react to people

- Intuition helps leaders sense what's happening among people and
know their hopes, fears, and concerns. They can sense what's
happening in a room--whether there's curiosity, doubt, reluctance,
anticipation, or relief.

Leaders know how to read and react to themselves

- Good leaders develop the ability to read themselves - their strengths,
skills, weakness, and the current mind.
- Poet James Russell Lowell observed, "No one can produce great things
who is not thoroughly sincere in dealing with himself." Leaders must
know not only their own strengths and blind spots, skills and
weaknesses, but also their current state of mind. Why? Because
leaders can hinder progress just as easily as they can help create it. In
fact, it's easier to damage an organization than it is to build one.

THREE LEVELS OF INTUITION

1. Those who naturally sees it
- Some people are born with exceptional leadership gifts.
2. Those who are nurtured to see it
- Not everyone starts off with great instincts, but whatever abilities
people have can nurtured and develop.
3. Those who never see it

- Someone who doesn't seem to have a leadership bone in his body

and who has no interest in developing the skills necessary to lead.
