Characteristic-Strategy Graphic Organizer

To organize Needs & for Intervention Purposes


Complete the graphic organizer to demonstrate alignment of effective strategies
as they relate to the disability characteristic that requires support for the student
to be successful in school. Added descriptions are helpful in using this graphic
organizer as a reference.

A) Phonics problems

A-1 PALS- By using this strategy the student with


a language disorder will be able to work with a
student without a language disorder to complete
work and practice phonics skills.
A-2 Choral Responding- By using this strategy the
student will have an opportunity to practice
phonics skills without being singled out in the
classroom.

B) Difficulties with structural


analysis

B-1 Graphic Organizers- By using this strategy


the student will be able to visualize proper
sentence structure and how to break down
sentences.
B-2 Language Models- By using this strategy the
teacher will be able to model how structural
analysis of sentences works for the student
either verbally or visually.

Social / School (Skills)


A) Poor word attack skills

A-1 Choral Responding- By using this strategy the


student will be able to practice verbalizing
words they have difficulty with as well as hear
their classmates
verbalize words.
A-2 Opportunities to interact with peers/adultsBy using this strategy the student will be given
opportunities to practice word attack skills as
well as socialize with their peers and adults.

B) Difficulty responding to questions

B-1 Response Cards- By using this strategy the


student will be given choices on how to respond
and what they are going to respond in a given
situation.

B-2 Visual supports written & gestures- By using


this strategy the student will be able to visually
see when responding will be appropriate or what
to respond if given a visual support on answer
options.

Behavior / Organization
A) Word substitutions

A-1 Language Models- By using this strategy the


student will be able to visually observe how and
when to use certain words.
A-2 Sticky Notes- By using this strategy the
student will have the ability to record problem
words as they encounter them and ask the
teacher about them or come back to it later.

B) Inability to express ideas to others B-1 Response Cards- By using this strategy the
student will have the ability to properly express
how they feel about an assignment or problem.
B-2 Journaling- By using this strategy the student
will have the opportunity to record their
thoughts and feelings about school and social
issues either with a peer or with the teacher.
