Q 1: How does the writer state her purpose? What were her motives in
making the jumps?

Or
What details does the writer provide about the operation of the
parachute, the
descent and landing? What were her feelings during the dive?
Or
Why did she decide to jump from the aero plane? What did she
want to prove?
Take The Plunge is a light humorous essay on sky diving. The
details are candid, lively and clear. She does not state her purposely,
rather we have to discover if from her roundabout approach. The
description of the operation of the parachute, the descent and the
landing are elaborate, clear and accurate. She was not fit for sky diving
yet she decided to dive. May be, she wanted to prove to the people
that even a handicapped woman can perform daring deeds with strong
determination.
She says that the divers dont fell headlong; rather they maintain
a swan-dive position with the help of rushing air. The beginners were
given a little instruction on how to dive. They were provided with a new
designed parachute which slowed down the rate of descent. The
landing with this parachute was easy.
They boarded a Cessna 180 on that lovely May morning. The
writer had put on the jump suit, the equipment, the helmet and boots.
She could hardly bend, sit or stand. She felt quite nervous during the
dive. She could not want to jump but she had to.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Q 2: Do you think that the writer is adventurous and daring?
Or
This essay is about Glorias hopes and fears. Comment. (PU
2006)
Or
How does the writer describe her dive?
Or
Are the details subjective, objective or both?
Or
How do her feelings undergo a gradual change?
This essay is about Glorias hopes and fears. She was not fit for
sky diving yet she decided to dive. May be, she wanted to prove to the
people that even a handicapped woman can perform daring deeds with
strong determination. It shows that was adventurous and daring. But

diving.
