Savage Inequalities Reading and Reflection
1) Solomons history class was described to be the highlight of the entire
school. The teacher himself was all about human rights and equalities.
He was a very educated man and seemed to still be teaching history
for the purpose of the students and to help them out the most he
could, even though having an education in the law field but being
drawn away for civil rights disagreements.
2) After reading this article and seeing Jennifers views on poor schools, it
is described that having a diploma from a poor area high school has
little to no value out in the real world. Girls found no purpose to
continue their education and to go out and just start having kids. There
werent many resources for students and schools were not financially
equipped to have proper tools to reach students academic materials.
3) The schools out in the suburbs had so much financial support and had
money raised by parents to build a sports facility and students had all
the proper materials to get a better education. The schools resembled
prep schools and staff was very attentive with whoever stepped foot
into the premises.
4) In my opinion I feel that there has been a SLIGHT change in our
systems for education, there has been rules implemented by President
Bush, such as no child left behind, to ensure kids are given
educational attention and given confidence that its ok if they struggle

with courses as long as they seek help. That would be the only change
that I have seen in the past 20 years. As for it remaining the same, yes
nothing has changed because I did experience two different high
schools. One in a not so good area and where I was not being pushed
to further my education after high school, and once my mom pulled me
out of that high school and into a better area, I lived and experienced
the difference where staff from teachers to counselors all pushed me to
apply for 4 year institutions. So that theres been much change, no
there hasnt because if there was, then there would be thousands of
not only high school graduate but University graduates as well. I feel
like a lot of schools do not have enough funding to hire well educated
teachers and that at the same time there are a lot of teachers that are
there for all the wrong reasons and dont teach students to the best of
their ability causing students to fail classes and fall behind on credits
eventually leading them to not graduating on time. There are also
those high schools who are tuition based and I feel that those schools
are a waste of money, parents are literally buying their childrens
career when in reality in my eye an education, diploma, degree and
learning is all the same across the board. Out in the real world to get a
dream job its either you have the degree or dont, theres no inbetween doesnt matter where its from, you still took all required
courses to get that same degree as opposed to someone who went to

an ivy league, its just how our society views it, based on the area
where you are coming from.
