Mercy and Compassion

What is mercy and compassion?
Mercy is usually shown to someone who has wronged one. Compassion is shown
to an individual who is suffering. Compassion means with feeling, with heart. When God
has mercy on us it moves his heart causing him to be with us in heart. Jesus had
compassion on people, healing quickly followed. God is merciful, he feels the pain we
do. And Jesus felt every pain we do during His life on earth and especially at the cross.
No one can truly claim that He doesn't understand he does.
Today mercy and compassion are continuously remarkable to every person
through Pope Francis. He preaches it but more importantly is he practice it. He always
emphasizing the mercy and compassion specially to the weak and poor. He reminds us to
be compassionate and merciful as a son of God. We need to understand the true meaning
of it. Jesus Christ, his amazing compassion revealed through the stories of healing,
feeding, forgiving, rejoicing in the conversation of sinners.
Compassion, a form of love, is aroused within us when we are confronted with
those who suffer or are vulnerable. Compassion often produces action to alleviate the
suffering, but sometimes geographical distances or lack of means prevent people from
acting upon their compassionate feelings. Compassion is not a uniquely Christian
response to suffering (Exod 2:6 ; Luke 10:33 ), even though Christians have unique
reasons for nurturing their compassionate dispositions.
We also experience moments when we are touched by Gods compassion
especially the truth about ourselves; our gifts and our shadows. Pope Francis had
apostolic visit in the Philippines on January for the typoon Yolanda victim. he wants to
comfort the Filipinos experiencing too much sacrifice cause by the typoon and
earthquakes. This visit send and remind us what Jesus did as recounted in the Gospel. In
Matthew 9:36, Jesus after seeing the people, felt compassion for them, because they
were distressed and dispirited like sheep without a shepherd. The tragedy brought by
Typhoon Yolanda awakened in every human soul. Then there is also the violence brought
by ISIS who abuse and kill anyone who is not among them. But do we need not wait for
tragedies? Just so we can show mercy and compassion for others? There are so many
reasons to share our mercy and compassion to others. not only during the calamities that
others experience. We need to practice and do it everyday.
St. Thomas Aquinas said We feel pity for those who suffer because we too are
subject to such miseriesThe person who loves regards his friend as another self, and so

he counts his friends troubles as his own, and grieves over them as if they were his
own. as a person we need each other forevery situation. We need friends that can help us
during our miserably life or even there's a problem.
No one is exempted to and from this call for Mercy and Compassion for it is
rooted in love and in our very nature. As St. Francis of Assisi said, It is in giving that we
receive, because as as Virgil said love begets love.
Pope Francis advised his fellow Priest that they should reflect of the reactions of
Jesus when He met people who were suffering. He said to the Priest that they should help
others who is suffering from emotional and spiritual. help them heal the wounds of their
problems that they encounter.Mercy means, above all, taking care of wounds. When a
person is injured, this is the immediate help they need.
Merciful and compassionate, which I find closest to my heart. Simply put: we all
need it! We all need to feel valued. We all need to be understood and accepted. We all
need help and strength during trials and problems. We all need the assurance that we are
not alone in this life. We need also forgive the person who commit sins to us. be a son of
GOD, love your neighbor and Love GOD.
Being merciful and compassionate is not and will never be easy. But we need to
practice it all the time. If there's who need your help' help them. It is important to be
merciful and compassionate to yourself and to others. To be merciful and compassionate,
then, is to be human. Thus, we extend mercy and compassion as though it is for our very
selves. As the Bible says, It is in giving that we receive.
As a Catholic devotees of Divine Mercy, we must lead the way and be aN
example of the mercy to heal wounds, forgives others who cmmoits sins to us and bring
harmony in our families and communities. It is not easy to develop this aspect of our
soul, especially since we have our wounds also. But act now and Practice it!
