COLUMN PIPING

Piping connected to the columns needs to

be supported & guided.
The first support from column nozzle is a
load taking support which carries the total
vertical load of pipe.
Supports are placed as close as possible to
the nozzles to minimize differential expansion
between vessel & pipe.
The guides stabilize the vertical run of pipe,
which sometimes is very long and requires
more than one guide.
Wind profile has to be added for analysis as
per project spec.
Pipe guides shall be provided as required by
stress analysis. Care should be taken not to
locate the guides close to the changes in
direction and points of support in pipe as this
may restrict the flexibility in pipe.
