It is hard to believe that we are starting our fourth week of school! I

am so excited about this eager and hardworking group of students I
have this year. This is going to be a great year!
Here are a few updates on what we are learning.
Reading Workshop
Reading workshop consists of word study, interactive read-alouds,
shared reading, guided reading groups, and reading minilessons. Our
present unit of study is called Building Good Reading Habits. The
children will be learning and practicing the habits good readers develop
as they become accurate and fluent readers.
Writing Workshop
We write every day in first grade. I love teaching writing because of
the amazing growth that first graders make over the course of the
year. Our first unit of study is called Small Moments: Writing with

Focus, Detail, and Dialogue. The children will be learning to write

lots and lots of small moments stories where they can write with detail
and move with independence through the writing process.
Math Workshop
See the attached letter for information on what we are learning in
math.
Box Tops for Education

Please continue to send in your Box Tops! All the money we earn from
them goes directly to our classroom.
