Create boundaries between citizens and immigrants opportunities is the same that trowing the
future of the world in the sieve
Good morning honorable chair and fellow delegates. On behalf of the Prime Minister of
Canada, Stephen Harper, and the people from this great country, it is an honor for this delegation to
be here, in order to debate possible solutions and initiatives so that preserve immigrants rights and
opportunities.
As it is well known, since the Armed Conflict in 1940s Canada has been viewed as a global
leader with respect to refugee protection and migration security, besides Canada is also known as a
country with a broad immigration policy which is reflected in Canada's ethnic diversity.
As a matter of fact, Central, and North America is well known as the principal region of origin,
transit, destination an return of migrants in the world, nevertheless, while migration has significantly
contributed to the region development, everyday many migrants suffer abuse, discrimination, violence,
exploitation, crime and even severe human rights violation
Canadian government strongly believes that regardless of the status in a country, both regular
and irregular migrants have human rights, including the right to freedom from slavery and servitude,
freedom from arbitrary detention, freedom from exploitation and forced labour, the right to freedom of
assembly, the right to education for their children, equal access to courts and rights at work.
According to this, and with the belief of creating strategies in order to search for peace and
prosperity, the delegation of Canada re-introduce UN resolutions from the past so all nation get the
right of discussing, with the only goal of looking for a viable solution.
1. Strengthening governments migration management capacities, so that governments are able
to respond effectively in emergency and crisis scenarios, also by improving their migration
policies and programs in a way that enhancing protection for the most vulnerable immigrants,
and the security of the country.
2. Fight against xenophobia and discrimination by increasing the public knowledge about
migration and strengthen migrants protection so that the migrants workers vulnerabilities get
reduced.
3. Finally, promote and support the creation of jobs for this sector, helping them in the paperwork
for the temporary working permission so the qualities of migrant workers help to the economy
of the country
This delegation strongly believes it is necessary to make a specific agreement between the
countries. To complete the work, Canada is convinced that all the countries in this committee should
regulate the terms and conditions that this agreement must include, for this, it is important that all
nations seek to develop strategies that will improve the migrants safety worldwide.
Thank You.
