Smartphone market information
Advances in telecommunication technology have been significant in recent years. These advances
have meant that the population has a level of connectedness never seen before. The number
of smartphone users in the US has been rising steadily for some years now and forecasts estimate
that smartphone penetration in North America will also continue to rise steadily into the future.
The United States is one of the leading countries in the world with respect to adoption of smartphone
technology.
In America the most popular brands are Samsung and Apple, with respect to handset manufacturers,
while the most popular smartphone operating systems / platforms with respect to market
share are none other than Google Android and Apples own operating system, iOS. Other operating
systems, such as Symbian, Blackberry OS, Bada and Windows have struggled to maintain a

foothold in the market as iOS and Android clearly dominate the field.
The first official smartphones came onto the market in the early 1990s. Initially a smartphone was
classified by its ability to offer features like e-mail capability, internet access, QUERTY keyboards,
personal digital assistant functions and perhaps a built-in camera. As of today, smartphones have
progressed even more and we typically classify smartphones as having a high definition
touchscreen, various apps, navigation tools and high-speed internet on the go. More recently sales
of smartphones have even exceeded that of traditional feature phones as smartphone usage has
continued to rise.

T&T - Statistics & Facts

Facts and statistics about AT&T

AT&T Inc. is a multinational telecommunications company headquartered in Dallas, Texas. Alongside

Verizon Communications, it is one of the largest telecommunications operators in the United States.
In 2014, the company generated 131.6 billion U.S. dollars in revenue, including 71.9 billion U.S.
dollars from business services. In 2014, the company employedapproximately 240 thousand
people and had over 120 million connections across its wireless service.
Starting life as Southwestern Bell Corporation, following the breakup of the AT&T Corporation
monopoly in 1983, the company later renamed itself to SBC Communications Inc. In 2005, SBC

purchased its former parent, AT&T Corp., taking on both its name and branding.
Within the U.S. wireless segment, AT&T and Verizon continue to fight for top spot, both sitting
comfortably above Sprint Corporation and T-Mobile US in terms of revenue. AT&T has a subscriber
base of approximately 76 million postpaid and 11 million prepaid customers, and
AT&T's monthly churn rate remains one of the lowest in the industry, sitting at just 1.31 percent in
the second quarter of 2015. In terms of monthly average revenue per user (ARPU), AT&T
generates approximately 41 U.S. dollars per user per month.
In the wireline market, AT&T and Verizon again lead the market, while CenturyLink retains the thirdlargest market share. In the U.S. pay-TV market, AT&T has recently become the market leader via
the acquisition of DirecTV, putting it ahead of Comcast, Dish, Time Warner Cable, and Verizon.
In 2015 the brand value of AT&T was estimated to be around 89 billion U.S. dollars, making it one
of the most valuable telecommunications brands in the world. This was supported by 3.27
billion U.S. dollars in advertising spending in 2014 within the United States alone.

Advertisers such as AT&T, IBM, and Honda commit significant dollars to supporting
the arts, education, and various charitable causes as well as their local Better
Business Bureaus and Chambers of Commerce. Still, advertisers are regularly
chided when they fail the social responsibility litmus test. Concerned citizens,
consumer advocates, and special-interest groups pressure advertisers when they
perceive the publics welfare is at risk. The earliest green advertising campaigns,
for instance, exemplified a blatant effort by some advertisers to cash in on
consumers desire for a cleaner environment. Some promoted nebulous product
qualities, such as environmental friendliness, that actually had no basis in fact.
Finally, when the state attorneys general got together and defined relevant terms
for use in green advertising, marketers cleaned up their act.
