2015 EAGLE SCOUT CLASS HONOREE

John Jack Stevenson

Jack started in Scouting in 1940 while in St. Paul, Minnesota and moved to
Madison where he attended St. Patrick's Parochial school, graduated from
Central High School, and attended the University of Wisconsin. Jack was
involved in Boy Scouting during that entire period and was also a drum
major with the Madison Drum and Bugle Corp. In 1944, Jack became an
Eagle Scout.
Jack began a life of service after college and was a Madison Police Officer in the early 50's and
the Dane County Coroner in 1961. In 1956, Jack became a partner in Hoffman Chemical & Supply Co., DNS Corporation, Hoffman Fire Equipment and Professional Pest Control. Hoffman
Chemical and DNS Corporation are now called Kleenmark.
Jack has served Scouting in many roles including Vice President of Finance and Council Commissioner. He has hosted an annual steak dinner every summer for the Camp Staff at EBSR. In
1985 Jack received the Silver Beaver award and in 2009 the Distinguished Citizen award.
The Glaciers Edge Council is pleased to name the 2015 Eagle Scout Class in his honor and to
present him with the first National Eagle Scout Associations Outstanding Eagle Scout Award.

Congratulations
Eagle Scout Class 2015
Whats It Worth?
The Eagle Badge. The highest rank a Scout can
earn. What is it worth? Well, in dollars and cents it
is worth about $7.50. Probably two and a half dollars in silver, twenty fives cents worth of ribbon,
and the rest of it in manufacturing and handling
cost. But, what is it really worth to you?
Think back to the time when you first became a
Scout. Remember the Scout skills that you learned
for each rank? And the re-dedication to the Scout
Oath and Law each time you advanced. Think of
the service that you have given to your troop and
to other people. Is your Eagle badge worth $7.50?
Of course not! Your Eagle badge is priceless. It
represents everything that you have learned, everything that you have done, to be prepared, to help
others, and to help yourself.
So now you stand on the peak of the mountain.
An Eagle Scout, now look ahead, look sharp. Way
out there in the mist is another mountain, and there
below is the trail to your future. It may be a long
trail, or a short one, but it leads to that mountain
far away. As you walk down the trail, and as the
years roll by and finally reach the end, we all hope
that you can look back on the trail of life and be
able and proud to say, I have done my best.

FOR DISTINGUISHED SERVICE

TO YOUTH
2015 SILVER BEAVER AWARD
RECIPIENTS
The strength of the Scouting movement lies in the dedicated support of its volunteers; the men and women who work tirelessly
on behalf of the youth of our communities. The Silver Beaver is the highest award the GLACIERS EDGE Council, Boy
Scouts of America, can bestow - yet it is a small tribute compared to the thanks earned from the youths themselves. The number
of people a council can honored with the Silver Beaver each year is determined by the number of chartered units at year-end,
one for every 60 units in the council. In the past 84 years, almost 500 individuals have been presented with the Silver Beaver.

Derek Greene
Derek has been a part of Scouting since he was a young Scout growing up in
Madison. His introduction to Scouting led to a lifelong commitment to serving
youth. An Eagle Scout, Derek has gone on to serve numerous roles in Scouting.
A member of the Executive Board of both the Sinnissippi and Glaciers Edge
Council since 2002, he has long been an advocate of what is best for the youth.
Derek currently serves as the President of the Glaciers Edge Council. Other
positions he has held include Den Leader, Committee Member, Council Vice
President, Scout Executive Selection Chair, Executive Vice President and Scout
Dad to his three sons.
Dereks service to the community includes Football Coach, Board of Milton Youth Football, Janesville
Performing Arts Center Board President, and the Janesville Noon Rotary Club.

Ed Grindle

For the last 13 years, Ed has served as the Scoutmaster of Troop 140 chartered by
St Lukes Lutheran Church in Middleton. During that time Troop 140 has been
one of the strongest troops in the Glaciers Edge Council in number of youth,
quality programming, advancement, and youth retention. Troop 140 has also
produced a number of key district and council volunteers that have had a positive
effect on Scouting in the Glaciers Edge Council.
During his term as Scoutmaster, his troop has sent Scouts to Philmont, Northern
Tier Canoe Base, and the Florida Sea Base. He is a Brotherhood Honor in the
Order of the Arrow.
Ed is active in his community and church. He has served as PTO President and Girl Scout leader. He
has used his passion for photography to assist many local organizations such as the Middleton High
School Drama and Music Departments, and for the Middleton Softball Association.

13

2015 SILVER BEAVER AWARD RECIPIENTS

Deborah Hudson

Deb has long been a staunch supporter of Scouting throughout the Glaciers Edge
Council and in particular, the Indian Trails District. She has served in numerous roles
in Scouting starting as a Tiger Cub Coach in 1991. Additional roles include Den Leader,
Committee Chair, Assistant Scoutmaster, Merit Badge Counselor, and Unit
Commissioner.
Wood Badge trained, she has completed numerous trainings and is a Brotherhood
Honor in the Order of the Arrow. Deb has been a Friends of Scouting presenter, served
on the Kitchen Staff at Camp Indian Trails and served on numerous Camporee staffs.
Deb is active as a Sunday school teacher at Orfordville Lutheran Church where she was recognized with the
God and Service award. She has served as a Girl Scout leader and has been a long time youth sports coach.

Amy Kitching

Amy currently serves as the Committee Chair for Troop 405 from the Indian Trails
District in Janesville. Her service to Scouting began in 1999 as a Tiger Cub Coach and
continued through the entire Scouting program as Den Leader, Webelos Leader,
Cubmaster, Scoutmaster, and Venturing Advisor.
She has become a masterful trainer throughout her Scouting career. Amy has served
on many council and district training events including numerous times on National
Youth Leadership Training and Wood Badge staff. She has served as an instructor at
the Philmont Training Center, Five Star University, and for the Glaciers Edge Council
Pow Wow. Amy has shared her enthusiasm for the outdoors by serving on the staff of the Council Back
Pack Camporee numerous times and contributed to the continued growth of this event.
She is active member of St Pauls Lutheran Church serving on the Stewardship Board and on the School
Board. Amy also has volunteered as a Girl Scout leader and as a youth soccer coach.

Tim Kreft

When people who know him think of Tim, the first thing that generally pops into their
head is Cub Scout Day Camp. Tim Kreft has a passion for Cub Scout Day Camp that
has been rarely equaled.
Under Tims direction the Cub Scout Day Camp program at Token Creek grew
significantly with hundreds of youth benefitting under his leadership. Due to his
outstanding devotion to Cub Scout program, he was asked to serve as the Cub Scout
Activities Chair. He and his committee were charged with growing the Cub Scout
program throughout the Scouting year. Tims quality programs helped increase youth
retention and helped to lead the Glaciers Edge Council toward Cub Scout
membership growth.
Tim has served in numerous other leadership positions including Den Leader, Webelos Leader, Cubmaster
and Assistant Scoutmaster. He has also served as a merit badge counselor, Unit Commissioner, and Yahara
District Nominating Committee Chair.
14

2015 SILVER BEAVER AWARD RECIPIENTS

Lisa Onken

Lisa is an Assistant Scoutmaster with Troop 87, chartered by The Knights of

Columbus in Cross Plains. She has also served as member of the Mohawk District
Committee and a Unit Commissioner. Lisa has served on a number of training
staffs including the National Youth Leader Training, Wood Badge, and Five Star
University. She is a Vigil Honor Member of the Order of the Arrow, Associate
Lodge Advisor, and has attended the OA National Leadership Seminar.
Her enthusiasm for Scouting continued when she served as the first Assistant
Scoutmaster for the 2010 National Jamboree and when she returned in 2013 as a
staff member. Lisa has attended the Philmont Training Center and is a recipient of
the District Award of Merit. In 2014 she volunteered as a Camp Commissioner at
Ed Bryant Scout Reservation.

Todd Praneis

Todd is an Eagle Scout and serves as the Committee Chairman for Troop 619 in
Janesville. He has also served Scouting as a Cubmaster, Den Leader, Webelos Den
Leader, and Assistant Scoutmaster.
In addition to his role with the pack and the troop he has become known as Mr.
Popcorn in the Glaciers Edge Council. He first served as a Unit Popcorn Kernel and
then became the District Popcorn Kernel for the Indian Trails District in 2010. His
leadership in popcorn continued when he agreed to serve as the Council Popcorn
Kernel in 2013. Under his leadership, the council popcorn sale grew to more than
$1.3M which provided units and the Glaciers Edge Council more than $850,000 to
help support Scouting.

Eugene Woehrle

Eugene is an Assistant Scoutmaster for Troop 420 chartered by Madison West

Lions Club. In his life outside of Scouting, Eugene serves the community as a
member of the Madison Police department. To Protect and To Serve is a motto
for Eugene beyond his role in Law Enforcement.
When he was inducted into the Order of the Arrow in 1999, few could have
imagined the impact it would have on his life. Eugene became a Vigil Honor
member and became the first Chief of Takoda Lodge. His leadership helped to
merge two lodges into one. In 2014 he agreed to serve as the Lodge Advisor with
the intent of helping Takoda Lodge rise up to the next level of service. His positive
leadership has help bring about a great change that led to our lodge earning the E.
Urner Goodman National Camping Award, one of only two lodges in the Central Region of the BSA to earn
this award.
In addition to his work with the Order of the Arrow, he is an outstanding trainer serving on both National
Youth Leadership Training and on multiple Wood Badge staffs. He has given freely of his time to help turn
Ed Bryant Scout Reservation into the fastest growing camp in Wisconsin.

HONORING
OUR 2015
EAGLE SCOUTS
&
SILVER
BEAVERS

The Scouts gave you a challenge,

and youve met it
faithfully my friend,
But it is quite hard to understand, just all it will
mean in the end.
An Eagle Scout, youve reached the top,
or have you only just begun?
Im betting that you will not stop, with so much
glory to be won.
For life holds out a challenge too, A mountain high
for you to scale
And with the training Scouts gave you, theres
really no such word as fail.
And so as you press on ahead, youll find its made
much work like play,
And as the tasks before you spread, theyll find
you ready, so Ill say.
Congratulations Eagle Scout, the world before you
now spread,
Scouts taught you much what lifes about,
prepared you well for whats ahead.

GORDIE MOLL
CAMP RANGER 1985 to 2016
For almost 32 years Gordie Moll served as the Ranger at Camp Castle
Rock & Ed Bryant Scout Reservation. Countless Scouts, Scouters and
parents passed through the gates of EBSR during his tenure. Hundreds
of camp staff have worked with Gordie over the years as well. After 32
years with the Four Lakes & Glacier's Edge Councils, and another 6
years as a District Executive in La Crosse, Gordie Moll is retiring.
Gordie's last official day with the Glacier's Edge Council will be March
31st. To celebrate Gordie & his wife Mary's outstanding service to our
camps and to Scouting, there will be a retirement Dinner at Ed Bryant
Scout Reservation on June 18th. The dinner will be held in conjunction with the Takoda Lodge
Spring Conference and all Scouts and Scouters are invited to attend. If you are already registered
for the OA Spring Conference you will not need to register again.
Register On-Line At: https://scoutingevent.com/?gordiemoll
The Council hopes that you will join us in thanking Gordie for his service to our council.
