Classroom Expectations

Be prepared- bring all materials necessary for class.

Be in your seat at the bell. Out of your seat = tardy. (See 7th grade tardy policy)
Be respectful. Respect your teacher, your classmates, and school/others property.
This also includes being respectful with your words and actions.
The bell does not dismiss you, I do. Remain seated until I give you permission to
leave.
**Failure to comply with classroom expectations or participating in disruptive
behavior will result in consequences as stated on the Behavior Expectations
handout.

Course description

You will be studying the history of New Mexico. We will start in prehistoric times and
continue through statehood. You will be taking notes, completing daily work,
studying/learning maps, creating projects, taking tests, and completing a research
project. You will also be learning map skills and geography as it relates to New
Mexico.

Research Project/National History Day

All students will be doing a research project in the fall semester. We will be
following the National History Day research model. Those that choose to will have
the opportunity to extend their research paper and create a project for competition
at the regional competition in March.

Grading

Most assignments will be graded as follows:

100-90 = A 89-80 = B 79-70 = C 69-60 = D 59-below = F
Some assignments will be graded using a rubric, which will be reviewed at the time
that particular assignment is given.

Technology

We will be utilizing technology a lot in my class. Students ARE NOT required to have
a phone/device. All of these items can be downloaded on parents phones/devices
or a computer at home.
Google Drive, Docs, Slides, Classroom, and school email (all students
have a school
email)- Our school is a Google school and student documents will be
created in Google drive and can be accessed anywhere.
Remind app- I will use this to send reminders about tests and projects that
are due. I can also be
contacted through this app.

My website- www.mrsjonesonline.weebly.com - please bookmark this on

your phone.
Powerschool- parents and students should download this app in order to
have access to student
grades at all times. You can set up notifications for your students
grades.

Late/Missing work

Late and missing work will be accepted. HOWEVER, there is a deadline for when
work will be accepted and those deadlines will be posted at all times.

All-Star List

Students with no missing work will be on the All-Star list. The list will be updated at
progress report and report card time. There will be a reward at the end of each
grading period for those who are on the All-Star list. Missing work must be
completed with a passing grade in order to qualify for the All-Star list.

Extra Credit/Bonus work

There will be multiple opportunities to earn bonus points and extra credit. Extra
credit will be allowed only if you have no missing work, yet still want to improve
your grade. See the teacher to request an extra credit assignment. We will discuss
the expectations at that time. Bonus points will be given via email, hidden bonuses,
my website, and other opportunities as they arise.

Bathroom/Hall Passes

These passes are used when you need to leave the classroom, whether its to your
locker or the bathroom. These are to be used at the teachers discretion. Just
because you have one, does not mean you will be allowed to use it. Please dont
interrupt instruction time to ask to leave the room. You dont have very many, so
use them wisely.

Binder Organization

A 1 binder, paper, and dividers are required for class. I also want you to have a
3-ring pencil pouch to keep in your binder that has your pencils, colored
pencils, and highlighters in it.
You are required to keep your binder in an organized manner according to the
following directions:
Section 1- General class information (team expectations, class
expectations, hall passes, etc)
Section 2- Facts about New Mexico- Here you will be writing a fact about
NM each day. These
are for a grade.
Section 3- Notes We will be taking a lot of notes. You will use these for
studying for
chapter/unit tests and for the comprehensive final exam.
Section 4- Articles/Maps You will be given maps and various articles to read.
Keep them in this
section.
Section 5- Graded work- When I return your graded assignments, I expect
you to
keep them in your binder.
