NI Biomedical Devices Lab

The NI Biomedical Devices Lab offers a flexible set of tools for controlling a wide-array of
biomedical devices. The tools include NI ELVIS, NI GPIB-USB-HS (HSGPIB Controller for Hi-
Speed USB) and GPIB-RS232 Controller and Converter and the GPIB/serial device simulator.

From a single software environment, the NI Biomedical Devices Lab can interface and
transfer data to and from a diverse set of medical devices such as Analytical Instruments
(Gas Chromatographs, Mass Spectrometers, etc.), Physiological Monitoring Instruments
(Blood Gas Analyzers, Respirators) and Biotech Devices (DNA Sequencers, DNA
Synthesizers, etc.) Using this Lab you can control a number of instruments from a single
application.

 NI Biomedical Devices Lab

NI ELVIS features an integrated suite consisting of 12 most commonly used biomedical laboratory
instruments, in a compact form factor for laboratory or classroom demonstrations. The suite includes the
Oscilloscope, Digital Multimeter, Function Generator, Variable Power Supply and Bode Analyzer among
others

The compact NI GPIB-USB-HS transforms any computer with a USB port into a full-function, plug-and-
play IEEE 488.2 controller for upto 14 programmable GPIB instruments

The NI GPIB-RS232 provides a high-performance serial-to-GPIB interface

In addition the GPIB simulator provides the capability to simulate the signals from different instruments in
case where the actual instruments are not available

Different programs can be written to simulate different disease conditions and the application software
can verify and validate the diagnostic routines
