Road To Riches
Introduction
This is the moment youve been waiting for, the main reason you bought this book.
You wont be disappointed. In this long and detailed chapter, I will explain the strategies
and give you step-by-step directions to achieving your first 100k, 1 mil, 10 mil, and 100
mil.
Although I'll make this guide as easy to follow as possible, it will still require some work.
Becoming rich isnt possible by typing in some secret code. You have to work your way
up.

The Richer You Are The Easier It Gets.

But you still have to work. You need patience and perseverance. You might even want
to set yourself a goal and concentrate on that goal until it is fulfilled.
Giving up too early will end up ruining everything you had worked for.
And once you get rich, you need to learn how to stay rich.
In this chapter I will not only teach you how to get rich, but I will also teach you how to
stay rich.

Whats the point of working so hard if everything

you earned is wasted in a day?
So we will explore some strategies to control your spending and focus on your goal.
The goal of this chapter is to teach you how to become rich and powerful. A
fter all, the two are connected. Runescape is built around the clich the world revolves
around money.
Runescape really does revolve around the money. Money allows you easier and faster
methods of training many skills.
Someone who wants to train smithing quickly and has a lot of money, for example,
could just buy all the bars instead of having to mine and smelt the bars him/herself.

Money also gives you power to expand.

Somebody with 1 million gp can get 10 million gp much faster than someone with 100k
gp. There are many strategies to expand your riches past what many consider the limit.

Runescape Top Secrets Version 2.0 Insider To Millions

Finally, money gives you power over people and will ultimately reveal the fun part of
the game. Being very rich, you can buy many different armors and weapons that will
give you the advantage against the average Joe.
This way you can beat the average Joe in mini-games like Bounty Hunter and Castle
Wars.
And no matter how modest you are, you'll admit that it is fun to overpower others.
When you are rich, you dont have to worry about work as much. You can go out and
enjoy Runescapes brighter side more often.
Always carry that vision of the future with you. It'll be your drive, your goal, your heaven
towards gaining millions of gp. And always keep trying.
Some of the methods described here take some practice and experience to master.
Dont give up easily and you will reap the rewards.
So lets get started. Remember to keep your eye on the ball and to never give up.

Basic Strategies
Before we begin with the specific strategies (how to actually get rich).
Lets first look at some basic strategies that we can use to get rich quickly and stay
rich for as long as possible.
This section is important and you shouldnt skip it. A lot of this may seem unnecessary
or theoretical, but it really is necessary and while it may be theoretical it will really help
you someday.

Choose Your Path

There are two paths you can take in the game of
Runescape.

One path is the path of

skills and training.
The other path is that of money.
The two do intertwine sometimes, but it is usually
better that they stay separate.
The main point of this strategy is to keep you focused
on one thing.

Copyright RunescapeTopSecrets, www.RunescapeTopSecrets.com - All Rights Reserved

Runescape Top Secrets Version 2.0 Insider To Millions

I once read an interview that someone made with Zezima (the player with all the level
99 skills).
He said that the way he became so good was by concentrating on one single thing at a
time.
He said that he would just train one skill until he reached level 99. That may sound hard
and boring, but thats what it takes to be great.

So you have to decide which

you want, skills or money.
I would personally recommend going for money, because money makes skills much
easier to train.
With gold, you can buy almost anything, including any materials you need for training
your skill.
But you have to stick to one thing.

If you start working for money and go to train mining

in the middle of getting your first million,
your work will be pointless.
You'll eventually start spending a lot of money on that skill or on other unnecessary
items.
Of course entertainment is necessary once in a while, but you should still concentrate
on getting your mountain of gold first.
Put it before anything else. If youre Merchanting (well discuss that later) steel bars
and you get an urge to use those bars to get your smithing level up, dont do it.
Concentrate on selling those bars so that you can make a profit.
The same goes for those of you who select to go for skills first.
Skills will help you gain money somewhat (your first 100k at least) but you have to
concentrate on a certain skill and work on it above all else. I
f you choose to train mining, forget about the ores. Just mine iron ore and drop it to get
faster XP.
That trip to the bank to deposit your ores could cost you a few hundred XP.
So my final say for this section is this: pick one thing and stick to it; dont sidetrack from
your goal or you will lose it.

Always stay on track. Its the only way to beat

everyone else who gets lazy and quits.

Conserving Your Earnings

The last section pretty much leads into this

one. Dont waste your earnings.
The main reason you need to concentrate on
earning your money above all else is to make
sure that you dont spend your money before
you can make profit.
Becoming rich does take some work but it is
much easier if you have a lot of starting
money.

Once you gain a million gp,

getting rich should be only
a matter of practice.
But if you get to a million gp and waste three fourths of it, you'll have to start all over.
When I first started playing Runescape, I couldnt understand how people could get as
rich as they did.
The most I had ever possessed was about 300k gp and I couldnt understand why I
couldnt ever go higher than that.
But then one day I realized why I was so unsuccessful all the time. It was because I
didnt save my hard-earned gold.
As soon as I got 200k I would go and spend it on some armor or runes to go play a
mini-game (back then I always went to the wild to PK). So I corrected my mistake. I
started saving my money.
Around that time I also learned a technique called Merchanting (which Ill explain a bit
later) which allowed my saved gold to be used to gain much more gold than I had ever
thought. Pretty
soon I was very
rich.
My little story goes
to show you that
saving your gold is
the number one
way to get rich.

Copyright RunescapeTopSecrets, www.RunescapeTopSecrets.com - All Rights Reserved

Runescape Top Secrets Version 2.0 Insider To Millions

Thats because the better methods of getting rich

require a lot of money to start off with.
If you cant help but spend money, then you should at least set yourself a limit.
Try to spend less than a 100k a week and monitor how much you spend. If you get to
100k, then stop.

Obsessive gamblers usually end up broke because

they cant stop; they have no control over themselves.
Learn to control your urges and you will be very successful (in both Runescape and the
real world).
Conserving your money also means being smart about what you do. One of the biggest
reasons players get depressed is because they lose expensive items to stupid behavior.
Use common sense when youre going somewhere dangerous. If youre going to fight a
dragon, what good will 100k do for you? Why would you bring it along, then?
Sure, its fun to show off, but if you die, that money does, too. So dont lose your items
by bringing them if they are unnecessary.
To summarize: Set a limit to how much you spend. Its best to not spend at all.

The more money you have, the easier it will be to get

yourself more and more gold (and eventually skills).
Remember your goal and work toward it. If boredom stands in the way of it, try listening
to music or watching a movie (in a smaller screen) while you play.
Your hard work and sacrifices will pay off in a very short while if you just stick to the task
at hand and forget everything else for that time.

Making Friends
I had a hard time deciding whether to put this section
before the last two or after and although I put it after, I
sometimes regret it.

This is truly a very important strategy that

pays off much more than the last two do.
When I first started to play Runescape, I had only one
friend. His name was Wimpy Shot.

Copyright RunescapeTopSecrets, www.RunescapeTopSecrets.com - All Rights Reserved

Runescape Top Secrets Version 2.0 Insider To Millions

He was a really great guy. We were both pretty low levels at the time and thus became
great friends.

As we became better, we became closer friends. We shared

some items and joined each other on PK trips.
But then I lost my account. Someone apparently keylogged me and stole my character
for him/herself. I was very upset, but I, nevertheless, made a new character.
I had nothing to start with, I was level three, and it would take me a long time to get
back up on my feet (I didnt know as much about the game back then as I do now).

But I remembered Wimpy Shot.

I added him to my list and told him what happened. Since we were close friends, Wimpy
Shot helped me out.
He was pretty rich by then so he gave me a lot of gold to train my stats back up. Without
his help, it would have taken me ages to get my character back up to where it was.
Thus I learned that friends are very
important. I decided to get as many
as I could. And it payed off.
When I started Merchanting, my
friends would buy or sell me items
which gained me profits quickly.
This is why friends are very
important. If you become close
enough, they will help you out
when you are in need.
And later, when you learn how to
use the market, they will also help
you with sales and purchases.
Making friends isnt really that
hard. Its usually best to make friends that are similar to you.
If youre a low level player and you like to go woodcutting, find someone who is similar
to you, someone who is close to your level and likes to woodcut.
Maybe youll even meet him while hes woodcutting.

The one thing you dont want to do, though, is beg for things.
Copyright RunescapeTopSecrets, www.RunescapeTopSecrets.com - All Rights Reserved

Runescape Top Secrets Version 2.0 Insider To Millions

When I first started playing this game, I begged for items for a few days. I just followed
people around and constantly asked them for items, saying I was poor or that I just died
and lost everything.
But this rarely pay off and I soon quit doing it. When I later became like the players I
was begging, I found how annoying it was to have someone beg of you.
People are much more likely to give you free items if you dont beg than if you do. And
you wont be making any friends by begging, either.

Making friends is a really great way to prolong your success in

Runescape. And it makes the game more fun.
If you ever want to go play Castle Wars or Bounty Hunter, your friends can come along.
Its much more fun playing a mini-game with your friends than playing it by yourself.

The Concept of Merchanting

If I could summarize this whole chapter in one section, this would be the section I would
do it in.

This is the basic strategy to all your future riches.

Merchanting originated long ago. Ever since people started trading, they have
merchanted (whether they knew it or not).

Merchanting is described as buying low; selling high

and that is the best description for it.
In Runescape (and other MMORPGs) Merchanting is always the fastest way to make
gold.
Merchanting is a successful skill to possess because it requires very little effort on your
part and results in some pretty large profits.
All it requires is a little bit of starting money to push you off.

The more money you have, the easier it will be.

Merchanting consists of buying an item for a low price (usually lower than the normal
price) and selling it for a higher price for profit.

The more the item costs or the more you can buy
of a single item, the more profit you will gain.
Copyright RunescapeTopSecrets, www.RunescapeTopSecrets.com - All Rights Reserved

10

Runescape Top Secrets Version 2.0 Insider To Millions

If you gain 10 gp profit from buying/selling one lobster then you will gain 1000 gp profit
from buying and selling 100 of them.

Merchanting Takes Practice.

You have to play around with the prices to see what the lowest price you can easily buy
for is and the highest price you can easily sell for is.
For this reason, you may need to waste a few hundred thousand gp first playing around
with the market.
But you will learn quickly. I will later go into more detail about what items to sell and for
what prices, but prices and items may change in a few years from now, the concept will
not.

For the same reason, you should learn to play around with
the prices a little to see what sells best for what price.
I first started Merchanting a while back. I remember that it was a Sunday. I was selling
some coal that I had mined (it was worth around 100 gp back then).
I had just sold my 100 gp coal
for 110 gp each when I heard
someone else selling 100
coals for 90 gp each.
Something clicked in my
head and I quickly bought
that guys coal. I then sold it
for 110 gp each.
I got a 2k gp profit!
Wow, this was genius.
I started working the system. I ended up buying random amounts of coal for 100 gp
each until I had about 1k of them.

Then I would go to world one and sell them for 150 each.
That was major profit for me back then.
Of course, I didnt realize back then that my brilliant strategy was already being used by
hundreds of players.
I liked Merchanting when I first started and I liked it a week later when I was getting
richer and richer. I actually created a small business for myself.

11

Runescape Top Secrets Version 2.0 Insider To Millions

I would hire people to get coal. Id buy it from them

for 110 gp each (a little more than the normal price)
and then sell it for 150 gp each.
I later moved on to better items like steel bars and rune armor.
But that was long ago and Runescapes trading system has changed. The concept,
however, still hasnt.
After reading this far, I would recommend that you should read the bonus book entitled,
New Rules Of Grand Exchange.
That is because the Runescape trading system has greatly changed. Players no longer
merchant the old-fashioned way (by trading individual people).

They now trade through a system known

as the Grand Exchange.
The Grand Exchange has its ups and downs but at the very core it is a giant
Merchanting machine and should be used this way.
You should read that chapter (if you havent yet) to learn how to use the new system.
Youll need it for this chapter.

Free Players
I am going to divide the actual guide to becoming rich into two parts.

One part will be for free players, the other for members.
Members can use the methods made for free players, but free players cannot use the
methods made for members.
For this reason, Free Players will be first.

I had make this guide as detailed as possible as this is

the most important chapter of the guide.
If you follow the step-by-step instructions, you should have no trouble at all keeping
along.

12

Runescape Top Secrets Version 2.0 Insider To Millions

0-100K
This is going to be the hardest part of the guide, but Ill simplify it and explain it as
much as possible.

I'll assume that you have no armor,

no items, and no gold.
In my mind, all of your levels are one and your combat is three.
So how do you get from nothing to rich? Stick to this guide and Ill show you.

Please understand that you will have to put some

work into this in order to make it work.
Making millions is easy once you get started; getting started is the hardest part.
You will need to devote several hours a day to get a few hundred thousand gp to start
making the easy money.

Remember to stick to your goal and not waste

your money on unneeded things.
Success is in your reach. You just have to work for it.
To start off, you have several options. Either one is fine and depends on what skills you
want to semi-train first.
I say semi-train because you will be concentrating on gaining money from that skill, not
gaining XP (although youll have to gain some XP, too).
As this is the Free Player section, you dont have as many options for what skills to
use for a big pay off. I will advise you on the best methods for starting out.

Lets start off with what I believe to be the easiest and

fastest way of gaining your first 100k: Mining.
People usually grossly underestimate the power of mining.
Did you know that one iron ore costs around 50-100 gp? And to mine iron ore only
requires a level of 15 mining and a bronze pick-axe (of course the better the pick-axe
the faster the work).
At high level, rich players are always buying iron ore to train their smithing levels.

Copyright RunescapeTopSecrets, www.RunescapeTopSecrets.com - All Rights Reserved

13

Runescape Top Secrets Version 2.0 Insider To Millions

Iron ore is really the number one way to

get 100k for a free player.
If you start off with in Lumbridge with a mining level of one and no money (or a few gp)
you can quickly start training mining to get to level 15.

Then, once you hit 15, you can start mining iron ore
and selling it through the grand exchange.
It would be cold-hearted of me to just tell you mine iron and not tell you how and
where.

The best place to start mining is near Falador. Falador is northwest of Lumbridge.
To get to Falador from Lumbridge, go around the north side of the castle (on the
outside) and follow the little dirt path west until you see a paved road.
Follow the road north to a small town (Draynor).
Copyright RunescapeTopSecrets, www.RunescapeTopSecrets.com - All Rights Reserved

14

Runescape Top Secrets Version 2.0 Insider To Millions

When you get to that town, go all the way west until you cant go anymore (youll be at
either the ocean or at a stone hedge).
Go a bit north (or south if youre above the stone hedge) and find an opening in the
stone hedge (the little stone wall).

Follow that path until you pass the farm. Right after
the farm there is a road leading north.
Follow that road until you get to some gates. Now, youre at Falador! Go a bit more
north until you get to a bank (the east bank).
Once you get to the bank, deposit everything except for the
bronze pick-axe that you got in tutorial island.
If you lost that pick-axe, there is a free one close by. To get to it,
you have to go to the building south of the bank you are in.
Go around on the east side of the building and go through the
opening to the square. Then open the northwest door and look
on the crate.
There should be a bronze pick-axe there. Grab it and equip it.

Get back to the bank and deposit everything except for

the bronze pick-axe (if you havent done it yet).

15

Runescape Top Secrets Version 2.0 Insider To Millions

Now youre ready to mine. There are many places where you could start mining, but I
will recommend a safe and close-by location just south of Falador.

To get there (starting out at that same bank in Falador),

follow the road back south towards the south gate.
Pass the gate and continue to follow the road until the road stops and goes in two
directions (east and west).
Follow this next road west until you get to a fork in the road (northwest and southwest).
Get off the road on that fork and go south.
After a few steps you should see a fence surrounding some rocks. Get inside that
enclosure and youre there.

There are two rocks you can mine at this point: tin and copper. This location has both
of these.
If youre not sure what kind of ores a rock has, right click on it and click on Prospect
rock.

16

Runescape Top Secrets Version 2.0 Insider To Millions

Since were just focusing on getting rich at this point, we dont need the ores.

Once you mine them, just drop them where you stand
(or give them away to make things go faster).
Getting to level 15 shouldnt take you long at all. The last time I did it, it took me less
than an hour.

Just keep working at it. Dont get sidetracked and stay on task.
Remember that your goal is money, not XP.
Focus on getting to level 15 mining as fast as possible and ignore anything else.
Occasionally, you will get gems. Gems (uncut ones) are worth a lot of money and if you
get them, save them and sell them later.

The extra gp can go for buying you a better pick-axe

to get your work done faster.
**Sapphire gems are worth about 550 gp each; emerald gems are worth about 900 gp
each; ruby gems are worth about 1,600 gp each; diamonds are worth about 5,500 gp
each.
Remember, though, that these prices only stand if the gem is uncut. If you cut it (or find
a cut one somewhere) it is not worth as much (the price usually gets cut by half).

17

Runescape Top Secrets Version 2.0 Insider To Millions

Once you reach level 15 mining, you have many choices for the location of your next
mining endeavor.
There are about 5-6 iron rocks right where you are right now (if you followed my guide
so far). There are three more places that I think would be better, though.

All three are much closer to the bank than this location which
is good because you want to get your first 1,000 iron ores
as fast as possible so you can get to the real gold earning.
The first location is actually right under Falador. Its called the Dwarven Mine.
Do be careful if you go here, though. There are level 14 and 32 scorpions that will attack
and kill you if youre not careful.
I wouldnt recommend this location if you are not at least level 10 combat, but it is close
to the bank and usually emptier than the other locations (not many people like dealing
with scorpions ).
To get to this spot, start at the east bank in Falador again (the same one we were at
earlier).
Follow the path east until you get to the center (the road leads to a little circle
surrounded by huts).
Get off the pavement and walk northeast until you either get to the party room (a
huge room; youll know it if you see Part Pete in there) or the east wall.
Either way, keep going northeast until you get to a small building in the corner with
some stairs leading down. Go down the stairs.
There are two spots with iron here (there are more but they are farther away).
The first is a bit southwest of the stairs. The other spot is just northwest of the first spot.

Remember that this mining area is dangerous.

Those level 32 scorpions can kill you pretty quickly.

The other two locations are near Varrock. One is to the southwest and the other is to
the south east.
Since both of these locations are near Varrock, youll have to come there.

To get from Falador to Varrock, follow these directions: Go to Faladors northern gate and
follow the road northeast, then east.
Once you get to Barbarian village, cross the bridge to the east and follow the road until you get to a
bank. Once you reach the bank, youre in Varrock.

Copyright RunescapeTopSecrets, www.RunescapeTopSecrets.com - All Rights Reserved

20

Runescape Top Secrets Version 2.0 Insider To Millions

The location to the southeast of Varrock is probably the better of the two because it has
more iron ores.
However, the place is usually crowded so youll have to get a better pick-axe/mining
level to beat the crowd to the ores.

To get to the location, start out in Varrock square.

Go east until you reach the gate.
Follow the paved road south until you see an enclosure with some rocks in it. Youre
there.
There are about 5-6 iron ore rocks there so youll have plenty to mine from. Iron ore
usually appears pretty quickly so you shouldnt have to wait too long between ores
mined.

When you are ready to bank, go back up north and

go through the gate.
Copyright RunescapeTopSecrets, www.RunescapeTopSecrets.com - All Rights Reserved

21

Runescape Top Secrets Version 2.0 Insider To Millions

Right to the southwest of the gate is a bank. Use it to store the ores.
The next location has less iron ore rocks than the first location but is usually less
crowded.

There are also two silver ores there which are

worth about 200 gp each.
There is also a mugger at this location (level 6). Be careful of him.
You can usually trick him into not attacking you by going around a rock (luring him
behind you) then quickly running to the other side of the rock. That way he cant reach
you.
To get to this location, start out in Varrock square. Go west until you get to the west
gate. Then follow the wall south until you see some rocks.
There are three iron ore rocks here but only two are close together (the other one is
farther off).
Once youre ready to bank, you can go back the way you came, following the Varrock
wall north until you reach the gate.

Then you should see a bank. You can

deposit your ores in there.
Mine enough ore for about 100-200k gp. The more you mine, the faster the ore will
come. But remember, youre focusing on the money, not the skill.
If you see a gem worth 1k gp, dont throw it out. Its worth more than ten of the iron ores.

Focus all your attention on getting enough

ore for your first 100k.
Iron ore isnt the only method and the only reason its listed first is because I think that
its the best method (for a free world player).

But there are other methods of getting your

first hundred thousand gp.
The next method Ill show you also has to do with mining. But this method wont get you
as much XP. Were going to be mining rune essence.
Free world players are only allowed to mine rune essence while members are allowed
to mine pure essence.

22

Runescape Top Secrets Version 2.0 Insider To Millions

While rune essence isnt as profitable, it is still used by many higher-level players to
gain runecrafting levels.

Rune essence is worth about 40 gp each.

But, compared to mining iron ore, mining rune essence requires much less time than
does iron ore.
Rune essence is always there and players dont have to fight over it; everybody mines
it from an infinite, never-ending source.
To take advantage of rune essence, you first need to complete the Rune Mysteries
Quest. The quest is pretty easy and shouldnt take you too long to complete.
You can start it by talking to the Duke in Lumbridge castle.

Once you complete the quest, grab a pick-axe

and head on over to Varrock.
The source of rune essence is located in a large cave. To get there, you have to ask
one of the powerful mages of Runescape to teleport you there.
The one we are going to use is closest to the east bank in Varrock.

His name is Aubury and he runs the

magic shop in Varrock.
To get to him, go to the east bank in Varrock. Then go south of the bank until you see a
fire symbol on the map (a fire symbol represents a magic shop).
Go inside the magic shop, right click on aubury and select teleport.

You will appear in a random place in the cave. Follow one of the
corridors to a room with a huge column in the center.
Click on the white column to begin mining essence. Once youre done mining the
essence, find a portal in the room and click on it. Bank the rune essence and repeat.

first 100k both deal with combat.
The first option is to kill cows for cowhide. Cowhide is worth over 100 gp each and
you can get your combat up a bit while getting it.
Cowhide is used by many rich players who need a quick boost in their crafting level.

There are many cow pens in Runescape but Ill show

you the three best ones (in my opinion).
These three are the closest ones to a bank in the free world.
The first place is near Lumbridge. This location has many ripe cows for you to cut
down, but it is usually more crowded than the other two places I will show you.
Getting there isnt hard at all. Start out at Lumbridge castle. Walk east until you see a
bridge. Cross the bridge and follow the paved road north.
You should see the cows to the side of the paved road a few steps ahead.

The two other places are both near Falador.

The first one is closer to the bank but it is also usually crowded. To get there, start in
Falador (refer to the earlier explanation of how to get to Falador).
Walk towards the south gate of Falador. When you get to the gate, follow the paved
road south a few steps but stop when you see a farm to the east.

Follow the wall of the farm to the north side. You

should see a cow pen there.
You can collect your cowhides here. You should try to keep the cow pen gate closed.
That way, the cows wont get out. If a cow gets out, you lose possible valuable time.
Who knows, maybe youll kill all the cows in record speed and wont have any others
close by.
The final place is also south of Falador. Its a bit far from the bank, but its usually far
less crowded than the last two locations.

To get there, follow the road out of Falador south gate.

Keep following the road south until it splits into two directions. Now, follow the road west
until it splits again.
Follow the road that leads northwest until you see a large building (Crafting Guild).
Follow the buildings wall west until you get to a wooden fence. O
pen the gate and walk into the pen. Youre there!

If youre a member, you can get to a bank pretty quickly from this
location by using the shortcut in Faladors south wall
(on the west side of the southern wall).
That way, you can bank your cowhide in the west bank, saving yourself lots of time.
Cows are a great place to start but, if youre really poor and have no weapon/armor, the
cows can be a bit hard to fight.
For those of you who cant handle cows but still want to stay in the combat area, I
recommend the chicken.

Chickens are some of the weakest creatures in Runescape

but they drop something that higher-level
players value: feathers.
Feathers are worth about 5 gp each, but chickens usually drop more than one at a
time. A great bonus is also that feathers are stackable.
That means that you dont have to bank every time you get a full inventory.

28

Runescape Top Secrets Version 2.0 Insider To Millions

There are many places where chickens roam, but Ill show you only two of the locations
in the free world.
The first place is near the farm in Falador (where the cows are).
If you start out in Falador, go to the southern gate. Once there, continue to follow the
road south until the road splits into two directions.
Follow the road east until you see a door to the farm.

Go into the house and open the door in the northwest

corner of the house to find the chickens.

The final location is near Lumbridge. If you start at the Lumbridge

castle, follow the road north until you see a bridge.

Runescape Top Secrets Version 2.0 Insider To Millions

Cross the bridge and continue following the road north. Follow the road until you see a
chicken pen to the west. Get in there and start massacring those chickens.

There are many (many, many) other things you can do to get to your first 100 thousand
gp, but I hand-picked these several methods as the best ways to achieve your first goal
to becoming a very rich player.

If you follow these plans, I guarantee that you will get your first
100 thousand gp in less than a few days.
You do have to stick to it, though. Saying, Ill get 1,000 iron ores, is easy but actually
doing it requires a lot of work and patience.
Dont give up because something is taking longer than you thought. Keep working at it.
Think about the ending when youre in the beginning and make that your fuel.
Its not impossible and in fact very possible if you just stick to the plan.

Runescape Top Secrets Version 2.0 Insider To Millions

100k 1 Million
From here on out (until the end of the Free Player section) most of the methods of
getting rich will be less do this to get this.
The methods I'll teach you from now on will be hypothetical.

They will be more like strategies that

you'll need to implement.
I mentioned that you would need to read the bonus series entitled New Rules Of
Grand Exchange before reading this chapter.

This is where you'll really need to know

how to use the Grand Exchange.
Since I already wrote a chapter on it, I wont be going into as much detail as I have been
on the previous section (but Ill still explain everything as best as possible).
From reading the first paragraph, you might be a bit worried that you might not survive
this section, but dont worry, you will.
Its not that its hard; its that its impossible to tell you buy something for this much
and sell it for this much, because prices constantly change and so do the items
popularity and necessity.

From here on out we will be implementing the strategy

of Merchanting which you learned a bit about in
an earlier section of this chapter.
Ill recap a little just to refresh your memory.
Merchanting occurs when one person (player) buys something for a low price and
then sells it for a higher price, thus making profit.
Merchanting used to be much more buy this for this much and sell it for this much
because there was still a chance of buying/selling the item for the price even after the
prices were outdated.
But that is no longer true, because the new trading system disallows you to trade more
than 3,000 gp over the set price for each item.

You can no longer buy a rune scimitar

for 15k and sell it for 30k.

31

Runescape Top Secrets Version 2.0 Insider To Millions

Instead, Jagex introduced a new system called the Grand Exchange.

The Grand Exchange might be a great way of trading

large amounts but it also limits the system
by controlling the prices.
Because of this, it is much harder to gain large profits right away. Before, you could buy
raw lobsters for 150 gp each at Catherby (members fishing city) and sell it for 350 gp
each on the forums.
Now, though there is a limit. The lowest you can buy raw lobsters for is about 300 gp
each and the highest you can sell raw lobsters for is about 350 gp each.
To make things even worse, most people now know the set prices so they try to buy for
as low as possible and sell for as high as possible.

This makes Merchanting very difficult

and almost obsolete.
But that doesnt mean we cant merchant. It just means that Merchanting will now
require more work and experience.
It also means more long-term investing (which we will talk in debt about in the next
section).

So lets start with the basics of how to use

the Grand Exchange to earn you
some easy money.
I said that the good thing about the Grand Exchange is that it allows you to buy and
sell millions of items instantaneously or as long as someone is selling/buying that
item.
However, the smaller gap between the lowest and highest price limits you. So lets
make this work for us.
The best item to start with is probably a rune. The fire rune is the most
sold/bought of them all, so lets start there.
By now you should have around 100k-200k gp (I would really recommend getting a bit
more than 100k before starting this).
To start off, lets experiment a bit.

Get to the Grand Exchange (northwest of Varrock square).

Copyright RunescapeTopSecrets, www.RunescapeTopSecrets.com - All Rights Reserved

32

Runescape Top Secrets Version 2.0 Insider To Millions

Take out your gold (gp) and get into the Grand Exchange. Click on the buy button and
search for fire rune.
When you find it, click on it. Now you have to choose how many you want to buy.
Since were first experimenting with the prices, lets buy just a few.

Fire runes should be around 10 gp each so lets buy 100 of them

(which will cost about 10k gp).
Also, make sure that the price youre paying for the runes is the lowest (the range
should be only 1 gp so if the lowest is 9 gp the highest is 10 gp).

Confirm the offer and wait a few minutes for someone to sell you the runes.

Remember to be patient. This may take time.

While you wait, you can do something else (like fletch if youre a member).

Once the offer goes through, take the fire runes and
go into the Grand Exchange again.
But this time were going to be selling for the highest price. Be patient again. It usually
takes longer to sell than it does to buy.

Copyright RunescapeTopSecrets, www.RunescapeTopSecrets.com - All Rights Reserved

33

Runescape Top Secrets Version 2.0 Insider To Millions

When your sale comes through, youve made your first move
towards becoming a very rich man/woman.
If it does not sell, then it may be that fire runes are no longer used as much or that
people just dont buy for the highest price any more.

Dont worry. At least now you understand the concept,

the basic strategy behind Merchanting.
Fire runes are a very slow way of Merchanting because they only give you 1 gp profit
each.

To get things moving a little faster, you have to experiment.

This is what I meant by saying that I cannot tell you the specific items and prices to sell/
buy by.
The Great Exchange is constantly changing the prices based on supply and demand
and people dont always need a certain item.
You are still pretty broke so dont try anything big.

The best thing for you to merchant right now should

be in the range of 100-300 gp each.
Most of the items that are good for this kind of Merchanting are raw materials like iron
ore, coal, lobsters (raw and cooked), yew logs, etc.

Copyright RunescapeTopSecrets, www.RunescapeTopSecrets.com - All Rights Reserved

34

Runescape Top Secrets Version 2.0 Insider To Millions

Remember to never just dive into something if you think itll sell. Experiment a little.
Its better to lose a few thousand gp experimenting than to lose everything youve
worked for.
You should also not be afraid to sell back the items if you cant sell for them for a high
price.

But patience is one of the most important

things while Merchanting.
The best time to merchant is during busy days like weekends and Friday nights.
Dont be afraid to leave the offer over night. You never know, someone might need it out
there.
A good technique to incorporate is to not be static.

Dont just buy for the lowest price and sell for the
highest price all the time.
If you cant buy anything for a very long time, try increasing the price youre buying for
by a little bit. And if youre selling for the maximum price, try lowering it if your sale isnt
going so well.
In the end it all comes down to what you know. Is there going to be an update featuring
a new skill? Will there be any demand for a certain item?
If there is, then the price of the item will likely raise.

So if you buy a bunch of that item right now, for

a low price, you can make a huge profit off of it
when the update arrives!
Keep using this method until you get your first million gp. I agree, this method will
take a while to master, but with a bit of experience experimenting, you should conquer it
in no time.

The first mil is really the hardest thing to

get on the Grand Exchange.

Copyright RunescapeTopSecrets, www.RunescapeTopSecrets.com - All Rights Reserved

35

Runescape Top Secrets Version 2.0 Insider To Millions

1 Million 10 Millions
By now you should have at least one mil gp. I would actually recommend getting a bit
more (around 1.5-2 mil) before starting this, but you can do it on a lower income, too.
What you need to start doing now is Merchanting larger items like expensive armors
and weapons. Rune armors and weapons work very well here.

An item that is used, bought, and sold a lot is

the rune scimitar. The rune scimitar
sells for around 15-16k gp.
So you would buy the rune scimitar for about 15k and sell it for around 16k for a profit of
1k per transaction.
The reason you wanted to stick to lower-costing items before is because you could buy
a lot of them for the small amount of money that you had.
But now, you have enough to buy more expensive items in bulk.

Remember, the more expensive an item is, the

more profit you can get from it.
But its not worth it if you have to buy and sell one rune scimitar at a time. It would be
better to buy 1,000 lobsters and sell them instead.
Since this is the free world, you cant really buy extremely expensive things.
The most expensive things you can probably buy are the rare armors like sarah,
zamarock, and guthix.
Those cost around a million and can give you some profit if you work them well.
Remember to experiment first, though. Dont just jump right into rune plate body armor
and expect an instant reward.

Play with the prices a little; learn when and for

what priced the item sells best and use that.
The Merchanting system is all about adjusting. If you notice that not a many people are
buying/selling the item anymore, stop Merchanting that item and move on to something
more productive.
When you get around 3-5 mil gp, you can start doing something called investing.

36

Runescape Top Secrets Version 2.0 Insider To Millions

Runescapes new Grand Exchange is very

profitable when you invest.
Investing means buying a certain item (or items) and keeping them for a while (days,
weeks, months, even years) and then selling them.
Players usually try to invest by buying an item when it drops in price. Then, when the
price regains, the player sells the item and gets profit depending on how much of the
item he/she bought.

Investing also works great when there is a

future change to be made.
For example, if a new skill called Construction is about to come out (yes, I know it
doesn't exists, but Im using it as an example ) and you know that Construction will
demand a lot of wood, you could buy thousands of logs.
Then, when the skill is introduced in a week or two, the prices will sky-rocket because
rich players will want to master the skill as quickly as possible.
Thats when you sell the logs you had bought. You can make a huge profit doing that.

Jagex introduced a helping system for merchanters a

while back called the Grand Exchange database.
This database stores all the prices and price changes of every trade-able item in the
Grand Exchange.

The system is great because it helps you monitor

which items are growing in price and demand.
If you catch an item increasing in the right moment, you could stock up on it. Then,
when you think that the price has reached its climb, you can sell.
To get to the Grand Exchange database,
follow this link: http://itemdb-rs.runescape.com/frontpage.ws.

37

Runescape Top Secrets Version 2.0 Insider To Millions

Use the tools you have wisely, monitor price changes and item demand, and most
importantly have patience.
Sales can take a while.

The reason many people like the Grand Exchange is

because they can go do something else
while the sales are going through.
Go train your skills while your raw lobsters are selling.

10 Millions 100 Millions

By the time you get 10 mil from Merchanting on the Grand Exchange, you really
shouldnt need my help.
My directions would be the same as they were for the previous section.

Invest in items worth more, watch for changes in the market,

and look out for possible profitable changes in the game.
Have patience and never stop trying. Remember, the Grand Exchange can be a
powerful tool if used correctly.
After you get 10 mil, this should get much easier.

You'll have more money to invest and you'll

get more profit from your investment.
Just make sure you dont start wasting all your money on booze and gambling (or all
kinds of fun).
You should go out and enjoy yourself once in a while, but remember your goal. You
need to keep focused to get to 100 mil.
It is a long way there and impossible if you get distracted every day.

Paying Players (For Members Only)

As promised, I will leave a portion of the guide for members.
If you are a member, then you are really lucky.

Members have way more options of getting easy gold

and they have a lot more options for Merchanting, too.
I wont go into as much detail about those things, since I already did that in the previous
section.
I would recommend that you read the previous section as it has valuable information
that even members could use.
Remember that free player strategies do apply to members, but member strategies do
not apply to free players (unless they ever get members, of course).

0-100k
The first 100k is the hardest part of getting rich.
But members have it much easier than free world players. For one thing, all of the skills
that we used to get ourselves up in the previous section are much easier to use.
There are better locations to mine, there are better places and creatures to kill for
special items, and better equipment to use for the skills.
There are also other, easier things you can do to gain gold pretty fast. In this section
well explore some of these.
Note that there are more than the ones I put here, but these are the ones I think youll
benefit from most.
To begin, lets add a new location to mine iron at.

Iron is still a very popular item and if youre a member,

you should really take advantage of it.
I will show you one new location to mine iron.
This is my all-time favorite location (in a members world) because it contains a lot of
iron ore and is very close to a bank.

40

Runescape Top Secrets Version 2.0 Insider To Millions

But the place is pretty far from Lumbridge or any of the free world cities.

Copyright RunescapeTopSecrets, www.RunescapeTopSecrets.com - All Rights Reserved

41

Runescape Top Secrets Version 2.0 Insider To Millions

To get there, you will have to cross the white wolf mountain and then make your way
south west towards Ardougne.
When you get to Ardougne, keep going south following the ocean. The mining
location is just outside the town of Yanille.

The next thing Ill share with you is the magic of pure essence.
Pure essence is an upgrade from the old rune essence that you mined back in the free
world.

Pure essence is worth way more than rune essence

but it has a few more requirements.
First, you have to be a member (which you should be if youre reading this).
Second, you have to have a mining level of 30.
This may be a bit high, but if you start out with level one mining when you first read this,
you can mine iron until level 30.

Copyright RunescapeTopSecrets, www.RunescapeTopSecrets.com - All Rights Reserved

42

Runescape Top Secrets Version 2.0 Insider To Millions

Then, you could switch to pure essence when

you reach level 30 mining.
Pure essence is worth about 150 gp each and is as easy to mine as rune essence is
(in the same places, too).
If you have level 66 magic, you can go to Yanille (see maps above) and use the
Wizards Guild to teleport to the area.

The Wizards Guild is much closer to a bank

than any of the other teleportations.
Now that weve covered some of the items we talked in the previous section, lets move
on to something new.
A great way many poor players start the process of becoming rich is by picking flax.

Flax is very easy to pick, is close to the bank, and

is worth about 100 gp each.
And if you spin it (the spinning wheel is close, too) you can make bow strings which are
worth about 150 gp each.

Copyright RunescapeTopSecrets, www.RunescapeTopSecrets.com - All Rights Reserved

43

Runescape Top Secrets Version 2.0 Insider To Millions

Higher level players always need flax/bow strings because they like to train a skill
called fletching. Bow strings are attached to unstrung bows to make bows.
There is only one location where flax is found.

This place is called Seers Village.

Seers Village is a little town next to Camelot known for its great maple trees.
To get to Seers Village, you have to cross over the White Wolf Mountain and follow
the coast west until you get to a paved road.
Follow the paved road northwest until you get to a bank (the bank near Camelot). Once
you get to the bank, go south around the building.
You should see an enclosed field. There will be a bunch of strange plants growing
there. You can pick the plants (flax) and deposit them at the bank.
The spinning wheel is located in a building a bit northwest of the flax field. If you go into
the house with the wheel symbol, go upstairs and you should see the spinning wheel.
There is also something called rune running. Rune running is exactly what it sounds
like.
You help out higher level players by bringing them (your own or their own) rune
essence. They will then turn that essence into runes and give you the runes.
You usually get a profit doing this. Since the 3,000 gp trade limit (more if you do quests)
you cant really make as much profit off of this as you could before.
Still, if you go for a less valuable rune type, like air, you can make some quick gold. I
would recommend that you go for the air runes.
Most higher level players train on air runes because the air alter is close to the Falador
east bank and because they can get 4-5 air runes per each rune essence if they get a
higher runecrafting level.
The air alter is south of Falador.
Look for a high level player standing there. They will sometimes have other lower level
players trade them.
Talk to him/her and ask if he/she is accepting air runners. You could also look on the
Runescape forums to see if anyone is broadcasting an opportunity to run runes.
The final strategy to getting your first 100k in a members world is to collect things for
rich players.

44

Runescape Top Secrets Version 2.0 Insider To Millions

Rich players are lazy and dont really want

to work for their skills.
So instead they buy all their materials from the Grand Exchange.
Thats where you come in. You will be the one to fetch them all of their items and
make a profit off of it.
One of the best things to try is snape grass.

Snape grass is used in making prayer potions.

Rich players make prayer potions
for fast herblore XP.
But theyre too lazy to go out and pick their own snape grass. So youre going to get it
for them.
Snape grass is worth about 400 gp each. That is a huge amount for something that is
very easy to get.

Copyright RunescapeTopSecrets, www.RunescapeTopSecrets.com - All Rights Reserved

45

Runescape Top Secrets Version 2.0 Insider To Millions

Snape grass appears in only a few places in Runescape. Ill show you the best location.

The best location is right next to the crafting

guild south of Falador.
To get to the crafting guild, use the directions I wrote in the free player section on
getting cowhide (cow locations).
Once you get to the crafting guild, go around the building (to the east of the building)
and go back up north. You should see a dried up peninsula (brown).

There will be a bunch of snape grass on the floor.

Pick it up and wait for more to generate.
And be careful of the hobgoblins.
If you dont have a high combat level, they can kill you.
This is only one item that you can use to get ahead.
Try thinking of something that high level players would use a lot of and get it for them.
You wont get any XP, but youll get plenty of profit.

Copyright RunescapeTopSecrets, www.RunescapeTopSecrets.com - All Rights Reserved

46

Runescape Top Secrets Version 2.0 Insider To Millions

100k-100 Million
From here on out, the directions are about the same.
But if youre a member you do have a big advantage over a free player because you
can participate in up to six transactions at once (wherein free players can only do three).
You also have a much larger item spectrum to choose from. Try to choose items that
people use a lot of and play with the prices.
Once you get to 1 mil, you can start investing in more worthy items.

The two items I would recommend to you are

Ranarr Weed and Ranarr Seeds.
Those two are very popular because higher level players always train their herblore
level by making prayer potions (which require ranarr weed).

Once you reach 10 mil, you can start investing in

expensive armors and weapons.
I would recommend investing in the abyssal whip, which is a very popular item to
merchant (right now at least).
You can also try Merchanting dragon armors and weapons (although the weapons
arent worth as much).

Profitable Skills
I made this section for those of you who still prefer to gain money while training your
skills.

Gaining money this way isnt as fast, but it

comes with the benefit of an increase in levels
which will help you later.

Mining
Mining is a very good skill to start off with and an
even better one to continue training.
We talked about iron ore being worth about 100 gp each.
By the time you reach level 40 mining (and get at least an addy pick-axe) iron should be
coming to you with one click of the button.
But you can, of course, move on to other ores. I wouldnt recommend coal unless youre
a member.
Coal areas are usually very crowded and you can get about 4-5 times as much iron ore
than you can coal.

Coal is worth around 150-200 gp each.

I wouldnt recommend mith and addy either, because they are both rare and take long
to mine. But crafting ores like silver and gold are very popular.

Gold, especially, is a very popular items for members

because they can use it to get fast smithing XP
(with special gauntlets).
Right now, gold ore is worth about 500 gp each. The best place to mine gold ore (for
free players) is in the crafting guild.
The crafting guild requires level 40 crafting.

48

Runescape Top Secrets Version 2.0 Insider To Millions

Fishing
Fishing is a skill that is pretty useless in the free world.
But in a members world, fishing is one of the best skills to use.

The reason fishing is useless in a free world is

because there are no good spots to fish
lobsters, swordfish, tuna, etc.
In a members world, there is a very good place to fish all of those. The city is called
Catherby.
There, you can fish lobsters (worth around 200-300 gp each), swordfish (300-400 gp
each), and shark (1k each).

Woodcutting
Woodcutting is probably one of the most popular skills
in Runescape, and for a good reason.
It is very profitable in both free worlds and member worlds.
Woodcutting really only gets profitable after you get to level 60 (for a free world player
at least).
Members have the option of selling maple logs for about 100-150 gp each at level 45.
But yew logs are the real gems of the skill. Yew logs are worth about 400-450 gp each
and are bought constantly.
Members can also cut down magic logs and sell them for about 1k gp each.

Runecrafting
I consider Runecrafting to be one of the
hardest skills to master.
It really does take a lot of work, but the work pays off. At first things may seem slow.
Youll only get one air rune for one rune essence so youll actually be losing profit. But
dont worry.
Copyright RunescapeTopSecrets, www.RunescapeTopSecrets.com - All Rights Reserved

49

Runescape Top Secrets Version 2.0 Insider To Millions

After you get to level 30-40 runecrafting, youll

be happy you started it.
By then, youll be making 3-4 air runes per one rune essence (or one of the other
rune types) so youll be getting some profit.
Members can make even more profit by using the Abyss to make nature and law runes
which are worth 300-400 each.

Farming
Farming is probably one of the
most underestimated skills.
You see, the riches of farming dont like in fruits and vegetables, they lie in the herbs;
the ranarr weed, to be more exact.
Ranarr seeds can be planted at level 32 and they will make you a lot of profit.

Ranarr seeds themselves are worth 20 k each.

If you get one and plant it, youre taking a bit of a gamble (although not much of one).
You see, each ranarr weed is worth about 6k each.
So if you buy one seed for 20k and get 4 ranarr weeds from that seed youve made a
4k profit.
But sometimes plants die and the number of ranarr weeds you get is randomized. Still,
the profits usually outweigh the losses.

To help you out, you should get an amulet of nature.

This amulet will help keep track of one of your patches (tells you if its sick).
Youll have to craft and enchant the amulet yourself, as it isnt trade-able.

Combat
Combat is probably one of the more fun skills to train
but it is usually not profitable.

Copyright RunescapeTopSecrets, www.RunescapeTopSecrets.com - All Rights Reserved

50

Runescape Top Secrets Version 2.0 Insider To Millions

There are really only two ways you can make it work for you. Either get good at PK or
get good at slayer.
Some people go PK for fun, but if you learn how to PK well, you can do it for profit.
When you kill another player, you get his/her item(s). So if you learn to kill players
effectively, youll learn a method of getting rich.

Slayer is the other profitable side of combat.

But it only becomes so at around level 60. At level 60 slayer, you start battling the really
tough enemies that sometimes drop rare items that are worth a lot of gold.
