CourseOverview:
Thiscourseisdesignedtosupportstudentsintheirprimarymathclass.Studentswillgetadditionalhelponany
weakunderstandingsofpreviouslylearnedmath,strengthentheirunderstandingofwhattheyarecurrentlylearning
intheirmathclass,andgettingaheadinlearningtopicsthatwillbetaughtintheirprimarymathclassinthenear
future.Studentswillhaveaspacetogettutoring,workonhomework,andbuildtheirconfidenceasa
mathmatician.
RequiredMaterials:
Allstudentsneedtobringthefollowingmaterialstoclasseveryday:
Planner
3ringbinder(minimum1inch).Thiscanbeasectionofalargerbinder.
Spiralnotebook(with3holes)fornotesmaybelinedorgraphpaper.Minimumof150pages.This
notebookshouldbeexclusivelyformathclass.

Tests:Testswillbebasedonclasslessons,discussions,projects,classwork,andhomeworkassignments.
Studentsareexpectedtotakeallexamsonthegivendate.Ifastudentisabsent,he/shewillberequiredto

Quizzes:Studentsareexpectedtotakeallquizzesonthegivendate.Ifastudentisabsent,he/shewillbe

thantheoriginalquiz.
Projects:Projectswillbelongterm,handson,interdisciplinaryassignmentsthatwillhavearubricand
multiplecheckinsbeforethefinalproductisdue.Projectsaregradedbasedonunderstanding,effort,
accuracy,andpresentation/exhibition.
Classwork:Classworkwillincludewarmups,inquirybaseddiscussions,labs,openendedproblems,
participation,andcitizenship.Warmupsandparticipationpointscannotbemadeupintheeventofany
absence.
Participation:Participationwillbebasedonattendance,punctuality,participationandthoughtfulnessin
allclassandgroupactivities,andstayingontask.
ClassExpectations/Procedures:
1. Studentsarerequiredtobringtheirnotebookandbinderdailyinadditiontotheotherrequiredmaterials.
2. ItistheSTUDENTSRESPONSIBILITYtogetnotesfromafellowstudentandmakeupworkwithin2
classdaysiftheymissaclass(withanexcusedabsence).Missedtestsand/orquizzesmustbemadeupthe
followingdaythestudentreturnstoschool.ItistheSTUDENTSRESPONSIBILITYtomeetwiththe
teacherandsetupatimetocompletethetest(beforeschool,orduringlunchattheteachersavailability).
3. ItistheSTUDENTSRESPONSIBILITYtochecktheteachersDigitalPortfolio(DP)dailyforupdates.
4. Inordertoeffectivelyuseourtime,andensuremaximumlearning,thefollowingruleswillbeobservedat
ALLTIMES:
a. Studentsmustbeontimeandintheirseatswhenthebellrings.Theymustbereadytoworkand
haveallnecessarycoursematerials.
b. Studentsmustbeproductiveandattentivetoallassignedtaskswhileintheclassroom.
c. Studentsmustrespecttherights,views,andpropertyofallindividualsintheclass.
d. Studentsmustparticipateregularlyinclassroomprojects,activitiesanddiscussions.
5. Thefollowingprogressivedisciplineplanwillbefollowedifnecessary:
a. Verbalwarning

c. StudentMeetingwithCounselor/Administrator
d. ParentMeetingwithCounselor/Administrator
AcademicHonesty:
Allstudentswillbeheldaccountablefortheiractions.Theschoolattemptstoinstillinstudentsalevelof
individualresponsibilityequaltothedemandsthatwillbeplacedontheminthefuture.Thedevelopmentof
individualcharacter,honor,andintegrityisafundamentalgoalofThePreussSchool.Alllessonstakeplacewith
theunderstandingthatthestudentswillpresenttheirownwork.Presentedassignments,tests,quizzes,projects,
classwork,orhomeworkthatisnottheworkoftheindividualstudentwillreceiveagradeofzero,andin
accordancewiththestudenthandbookwillbesentimmediatelytoadministrationanddueprocedurewillbe
followed.
Support:
Thiscoursewillprovetobechallenginganddemanding.Planahead,stayorganized,andasklotsofquestionsto
ensureyoursuccessintheclass.Studentsareencouragedtocollaboratewithoneanothertoformstudygroups
outsideofclassandtocomeinforadditionaltutoringwhenevernecessary.Iamavailablefortutoringduringmy
officehours(Thursdayatlunch)orbyappointment.Pleasedonthesitatetoreachouttomeandaskforhelp.
