Mechanical Engineering Graphics and Solid Modeling A & B

WASHINGTON COMMUNITY HIGH SCHOOL

INSTRUCTOR: Mr. Robert Mitchell
E-MAIL: rmitchell@wacohi.net (preferred communication method)
PHONE: 444.5611
COURSE DESCRIPTION
This is an advanced course designed to emphasize mechanical engineering CAD principles and
techniques including a review and further exploration of 3D modeling and product design. PTC Creo 3D
solid modeling skills will be advanced through a variety of individual and group projects that reflect realworld engineering problems.
CLASS FORMAT
All lectures are active learning sessions with lab exercises. Practice problems, projects, and
readings will be posted at the beginning of each unit. Class time will be given for independent practice
and project time, however this may not be enough for all students. Students should download software
on personal computers for additional work. Students may also see instructor to schedule lab time for
extra work.
COURSE GOALS
The course is designed to introduce students to technical drawing and engineering graphics. At
the end of the course the student will be proficient with the following:
a.
b.
c.
d.
e.

Advanced 3D models
Assembly modeling
Manufacturing techniques
Model analysis
Detail/production drawing

semester

LATE POLICY: Due dates will be posted at the time of assignment. Projects are due by 5 p.m. on the
due date. Email submissions of PDF file type are acceptable. Late submissions 48 hours late or less
will be penalized 25%, submissions more than 48 hours late will be penalized 50% and may be
submitted up until the end of the grading period.
CLASSROOM EXPECTATIONS
- All WCHS Handbook policies apply.
- Respect the educational rights of all students.
- No food or drink in the lab.
- Personal digital devices (includes headphones) are not allowed during instruction days. During
independent work days it is at the discretion of the student; however they must not become a
distraction. Headphones are not allowed to be used at any time except for consumption of class
material.
- Arrive prepared for class.
SUGGESTIONS FOR SUCCESS
This course will demand your focus during individual work time, attention to detail, and ability to
finish work on time. In order to succeed you should follow these instructor suggestions:
-

Use limited work time in class wisely. If your project benchmarks are not on schedule, you must
spend time outside class. See instructor to schedule lab time.
You may ask other students for assistance. Seek out opportunities to assist classmates.
Use knowledge you have gained in courses in other subjects (Math, Science).
Ask questions. Give feedback.
Attend every class!
