Straight from Sandra

Once again, I thank you for your confidence in me

by electing me as your Chapter President for this
biennium. With all of us working together, we can
accomplish great things as we follow Theodore
Roosevelts advice, Do what you can, with what
you have, where you are.

Theodore Roosevelt once said, Do what you can,

with what you have, where you are. I think that
applies to Nu right now.
This past biennium, we celebrated many individual
and chapter achievements including receiving the
Tudor Rose Award for increasing membership, two
years in a row. And then last month, we lost
several faithful and longtime members when they
transferred to a chapter closer to their towns.
What a gain for Beta Zeta, Area 6, not only in
numbers but also in excellent members! We will
miss our dear friends, but will have opportunities
to see them at state conventions, and we certainly
invite them to attend any of our meetings.

Ill see you at our first meeting!

Keypins should be worn to all chapter meetings

and for those still working, may be worn to work
on the first Monday of any month. They may also
be worn to any official Delta Kappa Gamma
meeting or gathering such as our Tri-Chapter
Social.
Some of you may have your mothers or some
other dear persons keypin which would make
wearing it doubly meaningful. Wear it to our next
meeting.

Our 2016 Colorado Springs Family Vacation

jeep tour into the mountains. That evening at the

Brownstone our son and daughter cooked a delicious
steak dinner for everyone to enjoy.

by Carol Plassmann, one of our newest members.

Every two or three years we get together with our two
children, their spouses and our three grandchildren for a
family vacation. We live in Driftwood, our sons family in
Houston, and our daughters family in Charlotte, N.C., so
we choose a special place to meet that will be fun for all.
This year I chose the Broadmoor Resort in Colorado
Springs because my parents took me there as a child.
My happy memories of that trip remain precious to me to
this day, and I wanted to share this experience with my
children and grandchildren.
We arrived in Denver within twenty minutes of each
other and met at the luggage area. It was so much fun
seeing the grandchildren run to each other, calling out
and hugging as they greeted. We picked up our two
vans and off we went to our Brownstone quarters at the
resort. As we were getting settled, we talked about the
fun we were going to have together.

Riding to the top of Pikes Peak on the Cog Railway was

the plan for the next day. We saw lots of birds, animals,
snow and water falls on the way up. Much to our delight,
the temperature dropped significantly as we climbed
higher and higher. At the top, we put on our jackets and
went exploring. We came back with lots of pictures of the
children in the snow with the plains of Kansas as a
backdrop. It was as beautiful as I remember it as a child!

For our grand finale, on our last day everyone (except

Charlie and me) went white water rafting through
Bighorn Sheep Pass near Canon City. I wasnt about to
be bounced from rock to rock in an inflated rubber boat
while getting soaked with ice cold water! The rafters had
a great time, but their photos convinced me I had made
the right decision.

Instead, Charlie and I had a leisurely brunch at one of

the Broadmoors many fine restaurants, then took a jeep
tour through the high mountain passes between
Colorado Springs and Cripple Creek (an old gold mining

The next day our children had arranged for a

professional photographer to take family pictures with
the beautiful Garden of the Gods as a backdrop. Then
some of us went hiking while the rest chose to take a

town). That evening we dined in and had a wonderful

time reliving our BEST FAMILY VACATION
ever!

A wilderness zip line adventure was on the next days

agenda. Our five-year-old granddaughter was too young
to zip, so my husband and I took her to the Anasazi Cliff
Dwelling Museum in Manitou Falls. Kailyn was a quick
learner, and loved telling the other visitors all about how
the people used different rooms to cook, sleep, store
food, or defend themselves. As a reward, we helped
her do some shopping at the Trading Post. Than we
reunited with the zip liners back at the Brownstone.
They reported having a great time ripping through the air
suspended high above the valleys on a thin steel cable,
sometimes while hanging upside down. That afternoon
we visited Broadmoors Seven Falls for lunch, where we
all had fresh trout.it was delicious! Later most of
us...even Kailyn!...climbed the 180 stairs to the top of the
falls. What a day that was!

Weve had a week now to rest up from our big adventure,

and Ill be ready to start planning our next family
vacation maybe in another couple of years.
