Rationale & scope
Learning Outcomes:
At the end of the course students will be able to:
Develop academic and business writing skills expected from a MBM student and
professional manager.
Enhance individual knowledge and skills in becoming a confident presenter.
Provide opportunities for individual and group presentations, case study analysis and
table top exercises.

End-of-Semester Examination: Examination would count for 60% of the grade. Exam would
consist of 6 questions out of which 4 should be answered. Three hours paper.
Continuous Assessment: This course consists of two assessments that would count for 30% of
the grade; Individual Assignment 15% and Group Presentation 15%. The late submission policy
is provided below and would be strictly adhered.
INDIVIDUAL ASSIGNMENT
A professional manager is expected to have good negotiation skills. Provide a minimum of eight
references to text books, journals and online resources, and describe the keys to effective negotiation
skills. Give specific examples relevant to your own work environment and recommend ways to develop
negotiation skills.
Your report should be 10 -12 pages in length, 2000 words excluding the cover page and references.
Indicate the word count in your paper. Please follow IHRA.UOC assignment guidelines. The individual
assignment due date would be informed.
Individual Assignment Write- Up - (15 Marks)
1. Introduction (brief overview of the topic - negotiation skills, and an introduction about the
authors background; e.g. work, education, etc).
2. Literature Review (what do different authors say about the importance of negotiation skills in
relation to the business environment, education, family life and society in general).

3. Analysis of your current negotiation skills. At work do you have to regularly interact with internal
and external customers; if so who are they? What is the level or percentage of interaction on a
typical day? What are the distractions or barriers to effective communication/negotiation at
work?
4. Give a specific communication example from your work environment that emphasizes the
challenges or issues you face at work. (This could be a positive or negative experience).
5. Based on your self-analysis and findings what are your suggestions for developing your
negotiation skills? (Suggestions and Recommendations).
