QUESTION 1
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
A chemist wishes to test the effect of four chemical agents on the strength of
a particular type of cloth. Because there might be variability from one bolt to
another, the chemist decides to use a randomized block design, with bolts of
cloth considered as blocks. She selects 5 bolts and applies all 4 chemicals to
each bolt.
Practical Problem: The main problem is that whether the strength of the
cloth is affected with the use of different chemicals
Objective: To find the variability in the bolts of cloth when the chemicals are
added.
Response: Material Strength Cloth Strength
Factors Considered: Chemical and Bolts of cloth
Experimental Design: One factor four level with five blocks
DESCRIPTIVE OBSERVATION

From the box plot, there is variability with different chemicals. Here we can
see that the median of each chemical is almost close to each other and
therefore, there is no significant difference with the use of different
chemicals. But to prove it more statistical analysis will be followed.

As you can see that the median of each bolt is far apart, we can say that
there is some significance with different bolts of cloth. In order for the study

Here the P value with chemical is 0.121 for which null hypothesis cannot be
rejected. That is, even if different chemical are used, its effect on the bolt of
cloth will be null.
The P value with bolt is 0.000 for which null hypothesis will be rejected and
alternative hypothesis is accepted. That is, the strength of the bolt is
different for each bolt when the chemical are added.

CONCLUSION
From the analysis we can conclude that there is no effect if different
chemicals are used. So for practical case it is better to choose a bolt of good

QUESTION 2
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
A company wants to compare the durability of two different running shoe
sole materials, A & B. The experimenter selected 10 boys. On one foot each
boy wore a shoe with Material A, on the other the boy wore a shoe made with
Material B. The shoes were randomly assigned to left and right feet.
Practical Problem: The main problem is to find more durable material for
sole.
Objective: To find the variability caused when different shoe soles are worn
by different boys where it is randomly assigned to the left and right foot of
the boys.
Response: Sole Durability
Factors Considered: Material
Experimental Design: One factor two level with ten blocks.
