UGW9811 V900R011C00
This document describes the procedure for a common upgrading UGW9811 V900R009C01SPC300 to
UGW9811 V900R011C00SPC200. The procedures for upgrading other versions to UGW9811
V900R011C00SPC200 are similar to this procedure.
Issue 04 (2014-11-30)
If the UGW9811 is connected to the network management system (NMS) using a nonencryption method, the communication between the UGW9811 and NMS will be
interrupted for about 90 seconds.
If the UGW9811 has been connected to the NMS using SSL, the communication
between the UGW9811 and NMS will be interrupted for about 10 minutes.

Before the upgrade, ensure that the hot patch supporting the upgrade to UGW9811
V900R011C00SPC200 has been loaded.
If the source version is UGW9811V900R009C01SPC300, load
UGW9811V900R009C01SPH338 or a later patch version.

UGW9811V900R009C02SPH222 or a later patch version.
4.
Before performing upgrade operations at a site, on-site engineers should initiate an RFC
procedure, and then GTAC engineers or R&D engineers at the headquarter review the
upgrade scheme and provide technical support for upgrade operations at least one weeks
before the upgrade.
5.
If the FTP, Telnet, and SSH functions are disabled for the VPN of the PC used for the
upgrade or the interfaces used for these functions are disabled on the firewall, you are
advised to enable these functions or interfaces before the upgrade. Alternatively, you can
connect the PC directly to the UGW9811 to perform an upgrade, thereby preventing
upgrade failures (You can run the ftp host IP address command on the UGW9811 to
check that the PC is connected to the UGW9811 by FTP and the FTP function is
available).
6.
Before an upgrade, check whether the password configuration mode for the local user is
cipher. If yes, contact Huawei technical support engineers for proper processing before
the upgrade. In UGW9811 V900R010C01 and later, the password configured using the

1.3.2 Restrictions
1.
2.
During a dual-plane upgrade, when the SPUs operate in N+1 backup mode, ensure that
the SPUs in the active or standby plane alone are sufficient to support the current traffic
volume and active subscribers during the upgrade. That is, ensure that the current traffic
volume and number of active subscribers are equal to or smaller than the values
calculated using the following formulas. Namely, ensure that the active and standby
SPUs can independently support the current traffic volume and number of subscribers.
Maximum number of active subscribers that the SPUs in the active or standby plane
can support during the upgrade = Maximum number of active subscribers that the
UGW9811 can support *[(N+1)/2]/(N+1)
Maximum traffic volume that the SPUs in the active or standby plane can support
during the upgrade = Maximum traffic volume that the UGW9811 can support
*[(N+1)/2]/(N+1)
When all restrictions in this section are met, a dual-plane upgrade is applicable, activating the
host software using the dual-plane upgrade method will interrupt services for about 90
seconds.

If the diameter files are customized, contact the product R&D maintenance contact.
For UGW9811 V900R010C01and later versions, service software packages are separated
from basic software packets to save download time and reduce hard disk space. Most of sites
use only one or two service software packages. The UGW9811 automatically downloads the
corresponding service software packages based on configured SPU groups. For PGP-X8 and
PGP-X16, the UGW9811 automatically downloads service software packages to hd1:/soft/a
or hd1:/soft/b, where basic software packages are located. For PGP-8 or PGP-16, the
UGW9811 automatically downloads service software packages to hd2:/soft/a or hd2:/soft/b,
thereby preventing the space is limited for hd1.
In UGW9811 V900R010C00 and later, the signature database file is contained in the basic
product software package and does not need to be manually uploaded.
Step 1 Check the display interface Ethernet brief command in the Telnet window of the LMT to
check the status of all interfaces on the LPU. The following is an example command output:

In the preceding command output, all interfaces on the LPU are displayed. If PHY is up, the
interface on the LPU is a 1GE interface, and Bandwidth is 1000M, this interface is in the Up
state and properly connected to a peer NE; if PHY is down this interface is in the Down state
and disconnected from a peer NE. Perform Step 2 on the interfaces in the Up state one by one
and ensure that they remain properly connected to peer NEs after the upgrade. Otherwise,
proceed to section 3.5"Upgrading the U2000 Version and Mediation (About 25 Minutes)."
If Auto-Neg is enable for an interface, this interface is in automatic negotiation mode; if AutoNeg is disable, this interface is in forced mode.
Step 2 Check that the negotiation modes of the LPU interfaces in the Up state are the same as those
of peer NEs. If the negotiation mode of an LPU interface is different from that of the peer NE
to which this interface is connected, confirm whether the peer NE is configured properly with
the customer. If the peer NE is configured correctly, change the negotiation mode of the LPU
interface to that of the peer NE.
The rate 1000 Mbit/s and the full-duplex mode are used as examples in the preceding commands.
In GigabitEthernet 1/0/0, 1 is the slot number of the LPU, the first 0 is the number of the subboard that
houses the GigabitEthernet 1/0/0 interface on the LPU, and the second 0 is the number of the interface
on the subboard.
The peer NEs at different sites may vary, for example, they may be different devices or provided by
different vendors. On-site Huawei upgrade engineers shall verify peer NE configurations with the
customer.

The NMS for UGW9811 V900R011C00SPC200 is U2000. Before upgrading the UGW9811,
upgrade the U2000 to R14. For the U2000 version, see section "Mapping Product Versions" in
UGW9811 V900R011C00SPC200 Release Notes. For details about how to upgrade the
U2000, see the matching documentation of the U2000.
iManagerOSS_UGW_MATCH_ENG_V200R014C00SPC011_pkg.tar
This package applies if the UGW9811 is newly deployed at a site, LTE services are
newly deployed, or the NE with the type of GGSN80 or UGW is upgraded to UGW9811
V900R011C00SPC200, and the new NE type functions as a unified gateway.
iManagerOSS_GGSN_MATCH_ENG_V200R014C00SPC011_pkg.tar
This U2000 mediation package applies if the UGW9811 continues to function as a
GGSN9811 after a GGSN9811 is upgraded to a UGW9811.
The U2000 provides a northbound interface connecting to a GGSN9811, and this
northbound interface continues to function after the GGSN9811 is upgraded to a
UGW9811. After this package is installed, data that the UGW9811 reports to the U2000
continues to be stored on the GGSN9811, and the northbound interface does not need to
be changed.
For details on how to upgrade the U2000 mediation, see Operation Guide for Mediation in the
U2000 mediation documentation.
For the U2000 host versions earlier than V200R014, install mediations according to the mediation
installation guide dedicated for command lines.

The UGW9811 after the upgrade is not compatible with the LMT of the previous version.
Before the upgrade, install the LMT for UGW9811 V900R011C00SPC200.
The default LMT installation path for UGW9811 V900R011C00SPC200 is changed to
D:\HWLMT_Enhanced.
If an error occurs during the installation, see "Q4: Why Do Files Fail to Be Backed Up During LMT
Software Installation?" in chapter 8"FAQs " to rectify the fault. If the fault persists, handle the problem
according to the ITR process.

If the report server version does not match UGW9811 V900R011C00SPC200, the upgrade is
terminated. Upgrade the report server to the desired version; otherwise, data cannot be reported to
the report server.
Plan and configure the speed at which the UGW9811 deactivates subscribers' bearer contexts
based on the number of subscribers on the UGW9811 and peripheral NEs' capabilities. An
excessively low speed results in slow subscriber deactivation. An excessively high speed
results in heavy system load and high CPU usage.
Ensure that less than 10 minutes are used for locking SPUs and deactivating subscribers.
Step 1 View the configured speed at which the UGW9811 deactivates subscribers' bearer contexts.
Run the display pdp-deactive rate-setting command in the Telnet window of the LMT. The
following is an example command output:
<UGW9811>display pdp-deactive rate-setting
deactivation rate info:
-----------------------deactivation rate-setting = 25
The preceding command output shows that the speed at which the UGW9811 deactivates
subscribers' bearer contexts is 25 bearer contexts per second.
Step 2 Configure the speed at which the UGW9811 deactivates subscribers' bearer contexts.
Subscriber deactivation speed = Number of activated subscribers/Duration for locking SPUs
and deactivating subscribers.
For example, the number of activated subscribers is 600000, and 10 minutes are required for
locking SPUs and deactivating subscribers. For details about how to view the number of
activated subscribers, see "8.5.2 IStep 5" in section 8.5"Q5: Locking the SPUs and
Deactivating Subscribers." The subscriber deactivation speed is 600000/(10 x 60) = 1000 per
second.

If the difference exceeds 10%, handle the problem according to the ITR process.
The configuration files are backed up during the check. Do not modify the backup
configuration files before the upgrade unless you have obtained permission from the
UGW9811 R&D and maintenance contact.
Before installing and using the upgrade tool, ensure that you have logged in to the PC as an
administrator.
Use the health check tool to check the upgrade environment at least 1 week before an
upgrade. Locate and rectify the faults that cause check failures. If the BOM related items fail
the check, contact R&D engineers to determine whether an upgrade can be performed as
planned. If you perform an upgrade when the BOM related items fail the check, "ALM-0697
Hardware incompatibility with the system" will be generated after the upgrade. Clear it
according to the alarm help. If the alarm cause cannot be located, handle it according to the
ITR process.

If Connection Type in the command output in Step 1 is Only SSL Connection, set
this parameter to SSL.
The recommended value is Normal, because the upgrade may take a longer period of
time if Connection Type is set to SSL.
LMT User Name: name of the LMT user with administrator rights
The LMT user can be an Administrator or Custom user. If the LMT user is a Custom user,
the user must be configured with the rights of service configuration query and system
management. If the Custom user is not configured with such rights, the upgrade may fail.

To improve security, in the new version, the FTP function is available only for local
subscribers of level 3 or higher levels. If some local subscribers lower than level 3 are using
FTP servers before an upgrade, the level of these subscribers is increased to level 3
automatically during the upgrade to ensure these subscribers can still use FTP services after
the upgrade.
Send the XML files in the diamdict folder to UGW9811 R&D and maintenance contact for upgrade

Causes
You have installed the LMT software from the network by double-clicking the
installation file setup.vbs on the server. As a result, some problems that the system
cannot detect may occur, and specific processes cannot be deleted as expected, causing a
file backup failure.
Multiple users are accessing the LMT at the same time on the servers (Window Server
2003 or Citrix). When a user starts an upgrade, some files are being used by other users
and therefore fail to be backed up.
If you have installed the LMT software from the network, cancel the ongoing
installation, copy the installation file to the local PC, and then perform the installation
again.
If multiple users are accessing the LMT at the same time on the servers, cancel the
ongoing installation. Use the process query tool to view who and which process are

using the files in question. Perform the installation again after confirming that the files
are no longer in use.
For other unknown causes, cancel the ongoing installation. Stop the LMT-related
backoffice service programs, such as lmt_server, ilmt_tray, Naming_Service, or
SFTPServer, and perform the installation again.

Step 4 Deactivate subscribers in all SPU groups.
Run the following commands in the Telnet window of the LMT:
[UGW9811-access]deactive pdpcontext
[UGW9811-access]deactive pdpcontext
group 1
group 2
If there are multiple SPU groups, run the deactive pdpcontext command for each SPU group at an
interval of 1 minute to deactivate subscribers in all SPU groups.
The group numbers in the preceding commands are SPU group numbers. To deactivate the subscribers in
SPU groups 1 and 2, run the deactive pdpcontext group 1 and deactive pdpcontext group 2
commands, respectively.
Step 5 Wait for 2-3 minutes until all subscribers are offline.
Run the following command in the Telnet window of the LMT:
[UGW9811-access]display user-number all
The total user Number = 0
If the total number of subscribers is not 0, handle the problem according to the ITR process.

The IP address 10.110.56.170 is used as an example FTP server IP address. On a live network, the IP
address of the local PC on which the FTP server is started must be used. You can run the ftp host IP
address command on the UGW9811 to check that the PC is connected to the UGW9811 by FTP and the
FTP function is available.
Causes
The FTP connection fails because the UGW9811 and FTP server are in different networks, the
NAT operation on firewalls fails, and FTPS is used.
Solutions
Run commands in the Telnet window of the LMT to view the transport encryption mode. The
following is an example command output:
<UGW9811>system-view
Enter system view, return user view with Ctrl+Z.
[UGW9811]om-view
Enter om-view commands.
[UGW9811-om-view]display ftps
