Welcome to 7th grade Reading! This is certain to be a busy and


challenging year for us all. With your cooperation, it can also be exciting and fun.
Part of ensuring a successful year includes following a few procedures and being
aware of classroom expectations.

Objectives:
As an 7th grader, students will have only one period of daily Reading in which
they will be actively engaged in lessons pertaining to reading, writing, and
grammar. 7th grade Reading will focus on:
Critical reading strategies
Critical writing strategies
Formal and informal writing
Grammar instruction
Unit projects
Vocabulary
Reading and writing for pleasure
Strategies specific to the STAAR tests
Infusing technology into daily lessons
Readers Workshop Frame

Units:
1st Six Weeks- Informational Text / Poetry & Sensory Language
2nd Six Weeks- Poetry & Sensory Language / Fiction Theme & Genre
3rd Six-Weeks- Fiction Theme & Genre / Persuasive and Media / Literary
Non-Fiction
4th Six-Weeks- Literary Non-Fiction / Research
5th Six-Weeks- Drama / Connections: All Genres
6th Six-Weeks- Reteaches/Interventions / Research

General Expectations:

Respect others personal space including not touching others.


Be respectful of everyone and everything.
Stand and Deliver using Proper Grammar.
Do not surf the Internet unless you are instructed to do so.
Allow others to finish speaking before you start speaking.

Grading Policy:
Daily Grades 40% of the six weeks
Major Grades- 40% of the six weeks
Six weeks test- 20% of the six weeks

Make-up work Policy:

Normally, students shall be given one day for each day missed due to
an absence in order to turn in make-up work. Tests shall be made up
at a specific time designated by the teacher.
No points will be deducted for the absence if the work is turned in
within the prescribed time.
The student will be required to come in after school to receive make-up
work, and receive missed instruction.

Late work Policy:

No late work is graded beyond 3 days, but is still expected.


Ten points will be deducted for each day that the assignment is late.
