PREJUDICE AND DISCRIMINATION

1. What key words did you use and why did you choose them? How easy or
difficult was it to find posts using those key words? Why do you think that
happened?
All this pictures were found in Google. It was hard to find, even when there were blogs
and web sites talking a lot about this topics. Most of the time this kind of pictures are
deleted from the website because of its contents. Even when I typed the key words they
were difficult to find.
IMAGE 1 (RACISM)

Key words: hate, black people and insults

IMAGE 2 (RACISM)

For this picture the key words were: Asians and hate. The entire content find in Google
were oriented towards racism and discrimination.
IMAGE 3 (DISCRIMINATION)

As we see in this picture there are discriminatory content. All of them are against the
homosexual community. The key words were: hate, gays and homosexual.
2. Was it easy or difficult to tell what the posters beliefs or attitudes were? What
cues did you use to determine what those attitudes and beliefs were?
The posters that I found were very specific. The content was very negative and also the
comments on Facebook expressed so much discrimination and sometimes there were
talking really bad about the situation and the people who were supporting the cause.
3. Do you think the posters would say the same thing in the same way if they were
having a face-to-face discussion on this topic? Does it matter? Why or why not?
I think that people who discriminate others, because of their gender, or they skin color,
would always say what they think. Maybe they would not care about what other people
say, and sometimes they might act in an offensive and aggressive way. All this actions
could lead to an unnecessary fight.
4. Some posters use their name and/or photo and others used a handle or a
pseudonym with no photo or a photo of something other than themselves. Do you
think this affects the tone or content of their post? Why or why not?
I think that it doesnt affect the content, anyways the words would be always the support
of all the negative comments. Even if they are words or images, the contents are
stronger.
5. What do the posters want you as the reader to come away believing about
different social groups? How do you know?
I think that the people who make all those posters with those messages try to make the
public to feel the same way towards those groups who are different. Maybe they just
think and act in a different way, but peoples objective might be to end up with all those
groups. And sometimes it could turn difficult and might lead to fights.
6. Based on what you saw in the posts you reviewed, would you conclude that
prejudice and discrimination are increasing, decreasing, or staying the same?
Explain your reasoning.
Discrimination and prejudice are growing up day by day. There are so many ways to
communicate these days, and the Internet and social media are the more influential.
People have access to all that information and dont use it in the right way, instead they
attack all those groups who think in a different way. Most of the time they dont accept
that everybody has its own way to think and to act. So the discrimination and prejudice
is worse than before, so we should think first and be always in touch with the news.
