Course Description:
This is a remedial course designed to assist students in meeting state high school
graduation requirements by developing their reading and written language skills.
Lessons are developed to meet individual students IEP goals.

Grading Procedures:
PowerSchool will be updated weekly. If you do not have PowerSchool login, please
contact Mrs. Jones at 357-7400 ext. 933. Students need to keep all assignments
and assessments in their binder throughout each semester. If absent, students will
be expected to make up missing assignments. Students will have the option to redo
any assignment until 100%. Assessments will be required to be completed at a
minimum of 70%.
100% of final grade -10% Employability grade (Participation)
-30% Assessment, Read 180
-50% Classwork/Homework
-10% Meeting Individual Academic Goals (Student set goals per
class.)
Employability grade - 100 points every two weeks for: being on time to class,
being present,
completing work, using time management, and being prepared for
class.

eReads A minimum of one eRead article completed each four weeks of class.
Writing Workshop A minimum of one journal entry published each four weeks of
class.

Main idea and details, read for detail, analyze
Vocabulary : prefixes, suffixes
Writing: Complete sentences, run on sentences, sentence
fragments, graphic
organizers, informational paragraph
Mechanics/Grammar: proper and common nouns, pronouns,
verbs, adjectives,
adverbs, capitalization rules, end
marks
Literary Devices/Terms: metaphor, simile, allusion alliteration,
assonance, oxymoron
2nd Quarter
Continuation of Quarter 3
Writing: Write a minimum of six paragraph persuasive essay in
MLA format
Mechanics/Grammar: pronoun agreement, parallel structure,
possessives
Literary Devices/Terms: allegory, analogy
