Hepatitis C: New Treatments

GPs at the Frontline

Presenter: A specialist panel to be confirmed

From 1 March 2016, GPs (in discussion with a specialist)
can prescribe a number of newly PBS subsided medicines
for the treatment of chronic hepatitis C. High demand for
these new medicines is anticipated with about 230,000
Australians currently living with Hepatitis C.

GPs and other health professionals are invited to attend a local

Hepatitis C update that will focus on:
The newly PBS subsidised direct-acting antiviral agents
(DAAs), including their place in therapy, drug interactions and
precautions;
Monitoring requirements for people with Hepatitis C;
How to prescribe DAAs in discussion with local specialists,
including the new remote consultation request for initiation of
Hepatitis C treatment; and
HealthPathways Melbourne for clinical referral pathways, best
practice guidelines and drug information resources.

Learning Objectives
On completion of this session you will be able to:
Assess the suitability of DAAs for your patients based on side
effects, drug interactions and precautions;
Detail the monitoring requirements for people with Hepatitis C;
Understand how to remotely consult with specialists when
initiating Hepatitis C treatment; and
Access HealthPathways Melbourne to obtain referral
pathways and best practice guidelines.
