Reminder of 2011 method

In 2011 a method was used to estimate Z invisible combining the traditional Z-
>dilepton method with the now established Gamma + Jets technique
The age-old problem with using Z->dilepton is the lack of statistics, in 2011 this was
combated in 2 ways:
Applying a scale factor event-by-event to correct for the event fraction with at
least one b-tag
Use the Gamma + jets control sample to extrapolate this factor up to higher jet
multiplicity
T2bw - On the timescale of Moriond we propose to use this method but with
updates to the 2012 event selection (e.g. using particle ow-based isolation for the
photon)
T2tt see slide later for proposal/discussion

The (rst!) things we need:

Control sample selection has been decided

Gamma + Jets: POG-recommended tight working point for cut-based 2012 analyses
Trigger : HLT_Photon135 unprescaled in 7e33 and 8e33

Double Mu: POG-recommended tight working point for cut-based 2012 analyses
Trigger: HLT_Mu17_Mu8_v* or HLT_Mu17_TkMu8_v*, unprescaled
7e33 and 8e33

DoubleElectron:
HLT_Ele17_CaloIdT_CaloIsoVL_TrkIdVL_TrkIsoVL_Ele8_CaloIdT_CaloIsoVL_TrkIdVL_
TrkIsoVL_v*, unprescaled in 7e33 and 8e33

The pieces we need

1

1 - The no. of Z->mu mu events in the signal region, without a b-tag applied - Jim, Riccardo
- 1 week
2 - The fraction of events with a B, as a function of number of jets Jared, Sudan (done on 5g)
- 1 week
3 - The ratio of events from Z->nunu to Z->mumu in the search region from MC Jared, Sudan,
Jim, Riccardo
- 1 week
4 - The eciency scale factor from Z->mumu data and MC events Jim, Riccardo
- 2 weeks
5 - Eciency to see how many events in MC pass the dPhi (MET, bjet) cut - Jared, Sudan
- 2 weeks
- Jared is working on putting together a script which takes the pieces and produces the
estimation, 2-3 weeks

What to do for T2tt?

The issue is that the addition of the top tagger severely reduces the sample size
recall in the baseline selection for Z->nunu MC we see 120 events go down to 4
T2bw method is not an option as there are no events in the Z->mumu control sample
in any of the regions - so a ratio cannot be calculated ( e.g. to compare to Gamma +
Jets)
Ideas being worked on:
Using an independent data control sample, relax the top tagging cuts
substantially and obtain ratio to go from loose top tagging to nominal top
tagging ( a la RA2b)
Which data control sample has similar top fractions to our Z sample
Could invert dPhi cuts to create QCD control sample ?
Could invert MET cut? (plot fraction of tops tagged as function of MET)
Depends on the behavior of the top tagger in these control samples, as
compared to signal regions being worked on now

Summary
The team is in place weekly meetings are being held will increase as we
get closer to Moriond
The tasks are well-dened and person-dened
T2bW seems to be more straightforward than T2tt but we hope to report
back with a more concrete T2tt proposal in a week
The analysts are already working on their pieces so we expect to show
preliminary results soon most samples have already been pat-tuplised
