Introduction
Electronic Library plays a great role in educating the users about how technical a
library system is as it contributes in the effective retrieval, use and management of the
information sources. Electronic Library is a fundamental part of the Library. It helps
users how to have efficient and reliable sources of searching informations in the world
wide web.
In the Bro. Paul Meuten Library (BPML) of the Notre Dame of Dadiangas
University (NDDU), the librarians and library staff have to double their efforts in
promoting our newly updated electronic library system. Each class should be educated
or given a special time allotment to have their lecture and tutorials on how to use the
Proquest, Ebrary and Elementary Ebrary and Online renewal.
Through the years, libraries have been observed to be under-used by users
especially the electronic library they have. Hence, library orientation was introduced to
promote the proper usage of the library. Still, users tend to overlook the Online
Databases they offer that each and every one of us could access in the internet.
To assess the problem, formal library instruction is conducted by the BPML staff to
all NDDU patrons but problems in such activities still exist like utilization of library
resources, minimal borrowings of materials and the usage of electronic resources from
online databases.
Statement of the Problem
The study aimed to measure the usefulness and usability of the newly updated
electronic library system. It specifically sought to answer the ff. questions:
1. What are the perceptions of the users toward the newly updated electronic
library system offered by the University Library such as online renewal,
electronic resources and online databases?
2. What could be the implications of the regular orientation given by the
university library staff to its patrons?
Significance of the Study
The study is beneficial to several sectors of the community:

Bro.Paul Meuten Library. The updated electronic library helps promote the
services offered by the library and demonstrate the used of the technology-based
resources.
Teachers. It gives them easy work and giving them more resources to have in
order to teach their students.
Students. The updated electronic library system will be accessible for students
and teachers use anytime. Online renewal of books and online databases are
accessible in the internet.

Scope and Limitations

The main purpose of the study is to provide information regarding how the newly
electronic library system of NDDU affects the lifestyle of the student considering their
different needs with their different courses. The study considers the students personal
information such as their name (optional) gender, age, and section.

The researchers limit the study to 20 male and female students in different colleges
enrolled in the first semester of school year 2016-2017 of Notre Dame of Dadiangas
University . Each of the respondents was given a questionnaire to answer.

In order to assure manageability of the collected data, the questionnaire only included
multiple choice items, likert scale, checklist and did not include open-ended response
items.

Definition of Terms

E-Library- Electronic Library System used by the students of NDDU. Online Databases
can be accessed here.

Bro. Paul Meuten Library- the name of the university library of Notre Dame of
Dadiangas university (NDDU).

Library- is an area where students of NDDU find their references and study it.

Users- refer to the selected students and faculty who were chosen to take part in the
assessment of the usefulness and usability of the electronic library system of NDDU.
