Dear Mr Corbyn,

Re: Standing up for the Human Rights Act

The Human Rights Act is one of the key pieces of legislation protecting civil
liberties in our country. Todays announcement from Justice Secretary Liz Truss
has made it clear that this Government is intent on dismantling the protections
at the heart of the Act.

The Labour Party has been a strong advocate of justice and human rights, both at
home and abroad. With our continued membership of the European Court of
Human Rights now similarly at risk, it is vital that our Party is united in
opposition to a Tory plan that will make Britain less free and less safe.

The Human Rights Act only exists because of the Labour Party. It is clear that we
must once again fight for the freedoms and protections that it embodies. We
sincerely hope, therefore, that you will publicise your opposition to the
Governments plans and, no matter the result of the on-going Leadership
election, unite behind this crucial issue.

Thank you.
