(by James M. Dunn)

If soul liberty is important.
If the priesthood of all believers is more than a slogan.
3. If one insists on interpreting the Scriptures for
themselves.
4. If one defends the right of each person to come to
the Bible and, led by the spirit, seek its truth.
5. If one believes that one must accept Jesus Christ
personally.
6. If the church functions as a democracy.
7. If in the fellowship of churches each one is autonomous.
8. If there is no pope or presbyter, president or pastor
who rules over you.
9. If religious liberty is the password to public witness
and the separation of church and state is its essential
corollary.
10. If no mortal has the power to suppress, curtail, rule
out, or reign over the will of the local congregation.

ABCCR Annual Gathering October 13-15

Crosswind Conference Center
Hesston, Kansas
Committees are busy readying for October when American Baptists of the Central Region will once again gather at
Cross Wind Conference Center in Hesston, Kan., for the Annual Gathering.
On Thursday, Oct. 13 is the Clergy Gathering. Friday morning, Oct. 14, a selection of informative and inspiring workshops will be offered, followed by worship and business meeting. Keynote speaker, Dr. Soozi Whitten Ford, serves as
Executive Minister for American Baptist Churches of Indiana and Kentucky. She has experience with national stewardship ministry through American Baptist Churches USA and will speak on this years theme, You Cant Out-Give God,
and the scripture: 11 Corinthians 9:6-8. Now I say, he who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows
bountifully will also reap bountifully. Each one must do just as he has purposed in his heart, not grudgingly or under
compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that always having all
sufficiency in everything, you may have an abundance for every good deed. After dinner on Friday night, there will be
a talent show. At the camping breakfast on Saturday, everyone will have the opportunity to meet the new Director of
Camping, James Blake, and hear plans for the future of the Region camping program. A second business session and
State of the Region message will also be on Saturdays agenda. At the conclusion of the event, luncheons will be hosted
by both the American Baptist Womens Ministries and the American Baptist Men. Global consultant, Kristy Engel, will
speak at the women's luncheon.
**If you wish to attend this conference, please contact the church office. FBC pays for all registrations if 4 or more will
be attending. Registration deadline is Sept. 9. Forms are available in the office.

Childrens Corner
Jesse Boeth has worked as an FBC Lawrence nursery
attendant for five years. Last Sunday, August 21, was
her last Sunday in that capacity. She has had to resign
because of other jobs she has. We certainly hope that
she will keep in touch with us in the future, because
she has become a part of our church family.
Thank you, Jesse, for five years of service to our
youngest members!
