Carnivores Unite
and join us for the Great Catskill Mountain BBQ Fest on
Saturday, August 27, 10:00-4:00 in Fleischmanns Park sponsored by FAB (Fleischmanns Alliance for Business) and the
Mark Project. This event is the first ever sanctioned by the
Kansas City Barbecue Society located in the Catskill Park Region and will be packed with people visiting the area.
The Main Event is the professional competition, designated a
State Championship with cash prizes and trophies. Also are
two amateur BBQ competitions, Fire Department Throw-Down with local fire companies
from Fleischmanns, Andes and Margaretville
competing, and the Backyard Barbies, our
local gourmets of the grill, all competing for
cash/prizes. Be sure you all come out and
cheer on your favorite team and see what
they can do.
Musical entertainment begins with the Pine
Hill Playboys, followed by the county-rock
band, Thunder Ridge from Kingston. More fun
things include craft/food vendors, face painting and kids activities along with a beer tent for Mom and Dad. Participating
vendors include the Catskill Mountain Artisans Guild, Peekamoose, Tree Juice, the Hungry Traveler, just to name a few. A
few spots are left for vendors, so if you are interested contact
Kim.
So all you Barbie people, if you think you are good enough,
contact Kim OBrien 845-901-9690/ gcmbbqfest@gmail.com
and see if you can measure up. To volunteer, contact Lisa
VanSteenburg @ lisa.vansteenburg@communitybankna.com.
The event is free and all proceeds will benefit the Fleischmanns Pool.
His skills as a wood carver were legendary, and his work was
shown numerous times in Folk Art exhibits and was included in
several books on folk arts and crafts. At his passing, Linda Norris,
then head of DCHA, explained that he "understood the intersection of life and land in the Catskills."
Our thanks to Sindy Becker for her leadership in bringing the drinking fountain to
our Park.

A Recent Visitor to Fleischmanns has this to say!
On a sunny but windy Sunday afternoon, I visited the Village of
Fleischmanns and had a lovely day.
I was able to see my friend's husband's new store-Fur Feathers and
Steel which is being stocked for the fly-fishing season as well as her
newly renovated apartments upstairs. What a delight to see a former practically falling down building looking so good and apartments
so attractive. In fact, one of the apartments was being rented that
day by a resident of NYC.
We had a delicious lunch at a new Moroccan restaurant. Their tasty
cauliflower soup was something to write home about. Also the salads were yummy and filling. It's a wonderful addition to this small
village.
Two other local shops, both with very friendly owners, were a treat Foothills where I purchased waterproof boots and an interesting
jewelry/antiques shop with beautiful one-of-a-kind finds.
All in all, I had a wonderful day with unexpected treasures.
