Extra Help: Mondays & Wednesdays during lunch in Room D-20

Welcome to Geometry CP! I am looking forward to teaching you all this semester! In this class we will
study the properties and relationships of lines, various shapes, and 3-D figures. Below are general
classroom policies and guidelines for this class. Please read and discuss them with your parent/
guardian, and please return this form with both yours and your parent/guardians signatures of
review at the bottom of page 2. Thank you!
***Please NOTE: these policies may change as needed***
Textbook & Materials:

California Geometry: Concepts, Skills, and Problem Solving by Glencoe McGraw-Hill

Protractor, ruler, & compass (these can be found in sets at Staples, Target, CVS, Rite-Aid, Dollar
Tree, 99-Cent Store, Amazon.com, etc.)

Graph paper

Separate math binder with paper and dividers for warmups, notes, homework, and handouts

Pencils

Scientific calculator (***my favorite one is the Texas Instruments TI-30X IIS 2-Line Scientific
Calculator, which can be found for $10-15 on Amazon or at Target, Best Buy, Staples, etc.***)
Grading Procedures:
Your grade for the course will be determined by a point system: how many points you have earned
divided by the total number of points possible for the class. I will update your grades frequently, so
that you will be able to check your current grade online as often as youd like. You must receive at
least a C in this class in order to move on to Algebra 2 CP. Grades can be found using your login
information on http://q.conejousd.org/
Point

Breakdown:
Homework - 4 points each
Chapter Binder Checks - 20 points each
Group Activities - 50 points each
Chapter Individual Tests - 100 points each
Midterm / Final Exams - 200 points each
Class Work - between 5 and 20 points each

Homework:
Homework will be checked and given points daily for completion. I want to see that you are
attempting every problem, even if it is incorrect. A huge key to success in my class is keeping up with
the homework. The more practice you get along the way, the easier the material will get! As often as
possible, I will give time during class to go over homework questions and work on assignments.
Chapter Binder Checks:
I expect the students to keep their warmups, notes, homework, and handouts organized and complete
in their binders for this class. Please make labeled dividers in your binders for each of these sections.
At the end of each chapter, I will do a chapter binder check in order to ensure that this expectation is
being met. The more you stay organized, the better chance you have at success in this class!

Group Activities:
I greatly value student collaboration and the ability that each one of you has to help each other
succeed in this class, so I will incorporate group activities as often as possible to encourage the
students to help each other understand the material, as well as hopefully serve as further review for
their individual tests. (*Note: the groups for these activities will be switched up each chapter based on
the seating arrangement)
Make-Up Work/Test Policy:
Students are responsible for making up any work missed due to absence. I will post missing
assignments online, but if you are still unsure of what you are missing, I expect you to come ask me.
Students have one school day for each day absent to turn in all makeup work (unless prior
arrangements have been made with me). Late work beyond that will be accepted for partial credit. All
test make-ups will be offered only on Fridays at lunch in my classroom.
Technology:
Cell phones, headphones, etc. must be turned off and stored in your backpacks during all instructional
time. We have limited time, and it is a sign of respect toward me and your fellow classmates to keep
them stored away. If you break this rule, I will give you a warning when appropriate, but after that
warning, I will give detentions and referrals as needed.
Academic Honesty:
This is an issue that I do not take lightly. Any violation of academic honesty will result in a zero grade
for the assignment or exam and a discipline referral.
I expect students in my class to...

Be kind and respectful toward their fellow classmates, teachers, & staff

Encourage each other to succeed

Be prepared and ready to give their best effort

Ask questions (and not be afraid to ask)

Follow all NPHS rules and policies

Come to me for extra help when needed (I want to see you do well!)

Have fun and learn a lot!

Student & Parent/Guardian, please sign & return this bottom portion to Mrs. Washburn. Thank you!
