EN0566 Communication Systems (Level 5) Seminar Sheet 1 Bit Rate / Baud Rate / Multisymbol Transmission 1
A digital transmission use binary signalling. The bit rate is 200kbps.
Determine the baud rate. (200kbaud M = 2)
A digital data source wishes to transmit data at a rate of 100kbps.
However the communication channel can only transmit signals at a rate of 50kbaud. Determine the minimum number of symbols required for the transmission. (M = 4)
A digital transmission uses a signalling baud rate of 1Mbaud and 16
symbols. Determine the bit rate, bit interval and symbol interval. (4Mbps, 0.25secs, 1sec)
A digital data source transmits data at a rate of 2Mbps with 16 possible
symbols. What is the minimum baud rate required from the communication channel and what is the maximum (500kbaud)
A digital transmission system transmits data at a rate of 120kbps. The
channel maximum baud rate is 50 kbaud. Determine how many symbols must be used and the baud rate? (n = 3, M = 8, rs = 40kbaud)
A communication channel is capable of transmitting symbols with a
maximum baud rate of 200kbaud. A digital source wishes to transmit data at a rate of 150kbps. How many symbols are required? (2)
