HOMEWORK
EVERY problem on a homework assignment must show some attempt or thought process in order to be considered
complete. A question mark shows no thought process. Homework is due the following day it is assigned, unless
specifically stated otherwise. Showing your work is a requirement!
ABSENSES AND MAKE-UP WORK
Students who are absent from class are responsible for collecting any missing work and notes from the day(s) of their
absence(s). Students can find their missing work in the absence folders. If there arent any materials in the folder, the
student is responsible to clarify with me where to find the missing assignments as some assignments will be electronic. If
an absence occurs, it is very important and expected that a student uses all resources and calls a class member or checks
my website to be as prepared as possible for the next day. Getting caught up on missed assignments can be
overwhelming and being proactive and responsible will help alleviate some of this stress. Please see your agenda for
WCPSSs make-up work policy.

CORRECTIONS/POINT RECOVERY
Corrections are only available on test and projects for half credit if the student scores below a 70%. The student will be
given the opportunity to correct their assessment once within a specified time frame to demonstrate mastery. A specific
remediation assignment will be assigned and must be fully completed in order to be eligible for corrections. The
remediation assignment must be turned in with test corrections. A specific point recovery sheet will be required and a
student must fill it out completely in order to receive the half credit back. A student can earn up to a 70% on the
assessment. Students are encouraged to utilize Leopard Time for corrections.
COMMUNICATION
I truly believe that students do their best in school when there is an open line of communication between the parents,
students and teachers. Powerschool will show students grades and will be updated weekly. Assignments and resources
will be posted on my website, www.gilkeymath1617.weebly.com. If you have questions or concerns, I can be reached by
e-mail, lgilkey@wcpss.net, or at MPMS by phone at 919.466.1500. Please allow 24 hours for a response.
REMIND101
Remind101 is a text messaging service. I recommend both parent and student sign up for reminders. I will use this on a
weekly basis. Parents, please put your childs first name and class period in parentheses after your name when you
register. To sign up, text 81010 with the message @gilkey8
GRADING PROCEDURES
The point system will be used for grading. The more skills and objectives an assessment or assignment covers, the more
points it will be worth. To determine a students grade, the number of points the student has earned for the quarter is
divided by the overall number of points available that quarter. Points are converted to a percentage and letter grade at
the end of every quarter.
For example: student earns 380 points / 400 points total for the quarter = 95% A in the class
MPMS Grading Scale:
A = 90 - 100
B = 80 89
C = 70 - 79
D = 60 69
F = 59 and below

Extra Credit: Per Wake

County Policy, there will not
be any extra credit available.

I look forward to working closely with you and your child. We are partners in your childs education and
future!
Thank you,

Lauren Gilkey
