This workshop provides a step-by-step approach to itslearning. The
teachers will explore the different aspects of the LMS. This will allow
teachers to become familiar with the LMS and its features, allowing them
to gain and understanding about the advantages of utilizing an LMS as a
platform for facilitating instruction in an effective learning environment
that enhances student learning by supplementing the traditional classroom
setting.

suggestions will inform the decision making process regarding necessary
adjustments for the upcoming session and any future professional
development workshops.

Authentic Learning

Day # 2

Prerequisite Knowledge
Teachers must have knowledge of Common
Core, State and District Standards. They must
have successfully transferred their files to MS
Office 365 Cloud based storage provided by
the district. Teachers should have a basic
understanding of how to access the Internet to
obtain Web 2.0 tools and internet based
applications. Preferably teachers have some
experience of integrating these tools into their
instructional setting. Teachers must be familiar
with Microsoft PowerPoint and its basic
features.

Content
For beginners this workshop will focus to become familiar with authentic

learning. Teachers will also explore the Microsoft Office 365 subscription
and its applications, specifically focusing on One Drive. Within the
Microsoft Office and its suites, beginners will explore PowerPoint Office
Mix as interactive presentation tool. At the same time, participant will
focus on exploring Web 2.0 tools and online applications. The workshops
aims to create an understanding how to effectively integrate those tools
(Web based and MS Office 365 based) into their classrooms: as ways to
create an interactive learning, student centered environment, and as tools
to create quizzes, polls and alternative forms of assessment that allow for
data collection and the adjustment of instruction.

Beginners will:
Teacher will evaluate authentic learning experiences and compare and
contrast this approach to the traditional assessment approach.
Teachers will summarize how MS Office 365 apps can be utilized in
facilitating an authentic learning environment.
Teachers will develop and lesson seed that incorporates two Web 2.0
based-activities that support authentic learning that they can use in their
own classroom.
How will you teach the lesson?
This lesson will include the following teaching strategies: Using Padlet, the
facilitator will begin by having participants share their definitions of
authentic learning and give one example how authentic learning can be
facilitated in a classroom. In the following sharing session, the participants
will discuss the different definitions and authentic learning experiences.
Then participants will watch a video incorporating an authentic learning
experience. Participants will be asked to take notes. Following the video,
participants will use Padlet to post their opinion of what they felt made the
learning experience authentic.
Participants will then be prompted to sign into their HCPS start page and
access their OneDrive account. The facilitator will model how to sync a
computer other than the classroom work-station, how to upload and share
documents and how to create a group. The participants will be asked to
create a group and share a document within this group. This workshop
component is based on teacher feedback and aims for beginners to gain
additional understanding of the Cloud as a storage and the possibility to
utilize OneDrive as an interactive platform.
In the next workshop component, the facilitator will introduce PowerPoint
Office Mix by highlighting some of its features Then the facilitator will ask
participants to access its learning and the specific workshop module. After

accessing the LMS, teachers independently explore PowerPoint Microsoft


Office and its interactive features as a student. Teachers will participate in
the self-guided learning experience and complete a quiz in the end, asking
them how the tool was used to support authentic learning. Participants will
discuss their learning experience and develop an understanding how the
tool can be utilized to facilitate authentic learning experiences. (This
workshop component aims to motivate learners to investigate the program
further. Beginners will learn how to create an Office Mix experience during
the follow-up school-based lessons.)
Teachers then participate asked to access Vocaroo. They will be asked to
record a response as to how think MS 365 can be utilized to facilitate an
authentic learning experience in their own classrooms. Teachers are asked
to post their responses to the Padlet. The facilitator will play a few of the
responses and they will be discussed in class.
Finally participants will be given the opportunity to view videos on how
Socrative, EdPuzzle, Animoto, Popplet, Vocaroo, Emaze, and AnswerGarden
can be implemented into the learning environment. Based on their own
content, school-level needs, student needs, and personal interest,
participants can access how-to videos related to these Web 2.0 tools.
Participant then have to opportunity to sign-up for accounts and develop
additional learning-experiences that they can implement in their own
classrooms.
Teachers will develop a lesson seed that incorporates two Web 2.0 basedactivities that support authentic learning that they can use in their own
classroom. They will share their ideas with the facilitator by posting their
responses to a MS Office 365 Cloud Based Word Document.

designated schools. There teachers can access the Web. At the same time
technology, such as a projector, computer and whiteboard is available for
the facilitator of the workshop. Workshop participants are requested to
bring headphones with microphones.
Evaluation Strategies
During the workshop, beginning learners will be asked to create a lesson
seed that integrate two Web 2.0 tool based activities, supporting authentic
learning that is shared with the facilitator. By evaluating the participants
lesson seeds, the Professional Development Team/the facilitator will be
able to gain an insight into whether or not the learners gained an
understanding of what authentic learning is and whether they can create
activities that support this instructional model. Additionally, teachers will
be asked to rate their learning experience by completing a survey on the

The results of the survey will be collected at the district level by the Office
of Instructional Technology and shared with the Teacher Leader Committee
and the School Based Technology Training Team.
These teams will review and discuss the survey results during their next

Instructional Technology. Survey results as well as feedback and
suggestions will inform the decision making process regarding necessary
adjustments for the upcoming session and any future professional

This workshop focuses on teaching participants about effective assessment

strategies, specifically focusing on Integrated Performance Assessments


and formative assessment approaches that provide data that can be
utilized to instantly inform instruction. Teachers will also learn how to
utilize Sway as a tool that can be used in an IPA. The teachers will explore
the different aspects of the Microsoft Office 365 app. Connections will be
made to OneDrive. Teachers will become familiar with the app and its
features and will be able to teach those to students. Teachers will gain an
understanding of Sway as a presentation tool that enhances student
learning by allowing for the facilitation of collaborative creation process as
well as the development of essential 21st Century learning skills
The next part of the workshops participants will analyze Web 2.0 tools and
applications as interactive learning experiences, as well as platforms that
allow for formative data collection. The follow-up group discussion aims for
teachers to discover how Kahoot can be used to enhance their own
classroom environment and how it can be used as a tool for feedback and
data collection. Then teachers will work independently. Via itslearning
participants will be required to view video on how to create a quiz utilizing
Kahoot. They will then be asked to sign-up for a Kahoot account and create
a Kahoot quiz related to their content and share it via email with the
facilitator.

Teachers will develop an Integrated Performance Assessments and one
Web 2.0 based-activity that they can use in their classroom.
How will you teach the lesson?
This lesson will include the following teaching strategies: In the beginning
of the lesson, the teachers begin by participating in a Kahoot, assessing
what teachers know about authentic assessment integrated performance
assessment and tools that allow for the immediate collection assessment
data. Teachers will then share out what they know about integrated
performance assessments. The facilitator will present a video of an
example how integrated performance assessment are implemented in the
classroom. The teachers will sign into itslearning and browse through an
array videos that impart information about authentic assessment.
Teachers will also access videos about how to utilize tools such as Sway as

an IAP tools/authentic assessment tool that promotes collaboration,


reflection and peer evaluation. Following this individual activity,
participants will come work as groups and brainstorm ideas on how to
integrate Sway into as tool that could support authentic assessment into
their classrooms. Then individual groups will share their ideas with the
entire class.
Teachers will then have the opportunity to create a Sway that they can use
in their own classrooms. (This workshop component aims to motivate
learners to investigate the program further.
Utilizing Sway, participants will access a variety of Web 2.0 tools that
afford the facilitation of immediate assessment, such as Scorative, Kahoot,
EdPuzzle, AnswerGarden, Classflow, VoiceThread, Wordle, etc.
Eventually, teachers will have to create a Kahoot that they could utilize in
their own classroom, as well as complete a Socrative in which they have to
answer questions regarding authentic assessment, IPA and tools that
allows for immediate formative data collection.

Evaluation Strategies

not teachers developed and understanding of authentic learning and of the
advantages of formative data collection in the instructional process.

Participants will access itslearning to find resources based on their ability
levels. They will access these resources to analyze online and blended
learning and how to effective plan and facilitate these learning
environments. Teachers will analyze technology based tools that support
online learning/blended learning. Participants will search for content
related videos on YouTube, Vimeo, Ted, and the Khan Academy. Participants
will be asked to explore how to use Screen-O-Matic, EdPuzzle, and Photo
Story 3 for Windows. Then teachers select their favorite tool to create a
video for their classroom. Eventually teachers will learn how to upload their
videos to itslearning, YouTube or Edline and itslearning.

This lesson will include the following teaching strategies: The lesson will
start out by having teachers watch a few shorts videos from different
content areas. This will be followed by a discussion, aiming for participant
to explore the effects of multimedia in the classroom. After accessing the

LMS, teachers will utilize the itslearning platform to explore the concepts of
the flipped classroom and the blended learning environment, the
pertinence of videos within them, as well as view some examples of how to
effectively implement these learning environments. While analyzing the
content, participant will take notes, regarding advantages, disadvantages,
questions and possible solutions.
This will be followed by a brainstorming activity during which learners
define these learning models. Participants then discuss the advantages
and disadvantages of these learning environment, as well as provide
possible solutions and ask questions. Participants will share ways in which
they could implement these learning environments in their own
classrooms.
Teacher then will begin searching YouTube to locate and select videos
pertinent for their classrooms. Participants will chose a video that is
relevant to their personal content area. Learners will meet in groups to
present one video they selected, provide rationale for selecting the video,
as well as the premise of how they would implement it into their own
classroom.
Teachers will then access a screencast teaching them how to use
Screencast-O-Matic to create a video. After the video-based instruction,
teachers will work independently to create one video for their own
classroom. Teachers will meet again in their groups and present the video
they created. Teachers will be able to view peer videos and participate in
exchanges about how to integrate these tools. Based on their comfort level
teachers can join different follow up workshops at their schools

The goal is to establish a bank of lessons, teaching ideas, instructional

PLN helps to establish a sense of purpose for participating in professional

This lesson will include the following teaching strategies: The workshop
attendees will meet at different school sites, based on their school-level
and content areas. This workshop focuses on collaborative, autonomous
work, fostering participants intrinsic motivation and helping attendees
develop a sense of purpose by providing autonomy. Therefore attendees
will be given the opportunity to establish collaborative teams of their
choice. Throughout the day the participants will be working in these teams.
The workshops is divided into five components: 1. Introduction and team
formation, 2. Discuss, share and exchange, 3. Create and Develop, 4.
Share and 5, Evaluation and Feedback
The facilitator will begin the workshops with a brief welcome and workshop

introduction and overview. Then she/he will give attendees time to


establish collaborative teams. The workshop will then become participant
lead. Learners will first be given time to: discuss, share and exchange. The
facilitator will then transition participants to the main component of the
workshop: create and develop. After this component the facilitator will
transition the teams: to share their work. Finally participants are encourage
to complete an overall survey, which includes a section for feedback and
suggestions.
